“Let go of her, right now!”
That was Noelle’s voice, and it was what brought me back to reality. Everyone present at the club was now looking at us, and Mark’s hand still held onto my wrist possessively…and painfully.
“Let her go, Mark,” Noelle ordered again when it seemed as though Mark was deaf to her orders.
“Stay out of this,” Mark eventually said, glaring at Noelle. His voice was throaty and husky, and I wondered if it was as a result of what happened between the two of us; if he felt it too, or if it was as a result of his anger.
“Why should I?” Noelle asked, facing Mark fearlessly and boldly.
She had never liked him, and knowing Noelle the way I did, I knew that she would definitely use this opportunity to get at Mark for what he made me go through. She hardly ever saw him, because she could not stand his presence.
“Last time I checked, she was your ex-wife, Mark,” Noelle added.
Mark smirked. “You are mistaken, Noelle,” he simply said, leaving Noelle’s eyes to budge out in shock and confusion, and she turned to me quickly.
“Alexa?” Noelle called out, demanding some sort of answers from me immediately, and I knew that I just had to step in.
I could not continue to just keep quiet and not say a word. Clearly, Mark intended to rile Noelle up, and also, he intended to ruin the fun that we were here to have, and I was not going to allow that to happen.
I snatched my arm away from Mark’s grip and looked at him with bitterness and anger, which wasn’t even hard to do because all he did to me were still fresh and hurtful.
“I divorced you, Mark,” I told Mark, loud enough for Noelle and everyone to hear.
I began to hear some murmurs from the people watching us, but I would not back down. This was a new me, and I intended to let Mark and everyone know this. Looking at Mark now, I could see how cruel, possessive, and selfish he was. This was his ploy to take control, but for the very first time, I would let him know that he had failed woefully.
“I haven’t signed the divorce papers,” Mark said.
He still had that disgusting smirk on his face, and his tone was nothing short of condescending and aggravating, which was just the typical Mark Ronaldo.
“And you will,” I said without flinching or stuttering.
I guessed my tone and the confidence in the sound of my voice took Mark by surprise, because I did catch a flicker of astonishment before it was gone.
“So this is what you intend to do with your life? Get away from me and whore around the city like a loose dog?” Mark asked insultingly.
Rarely had he finished the question before my palm connected with his cheek in a loud smack and everyone gushed in shock. Even Mark was too stunned to respond at first, and I glared at him, waiting and daring him to return the favor.
“You should have just let her be, Mark,” Noelle chipped in. “Now see how embarrassed you have ended up,” Noelle added.
She quickly moved me away from Mark’s presence and stood in my place, so when Mark gazed his eyes upon me again, it was Noelle that he was looking at.
“Alexa is no longer your wife and she is pleased to do whatever she likes with her life. The Dancing Devil is a place for anyone who can afford it, and if you dare try to attack, harass, confront, or even speak to her again, I will have the securities throw you out and demand that the management keep you out of this place for a really long time,” Noelle added threateningly.
With that, without even waiting for Mark to say a word in his defense, she turned to me and led me to our booked chamber, and the ten men who had been hired by Noelle climbed the mini-stage in our chamber and began to entertain us as though nothing had happened.
“You would really do that?” I asked Noelle, because to me, that threat seemed somewhat extreme, and knowing how stubborn and daring Mark was, he might actually take her up on that threat, and if she failed to deliver, it would blow up in our faces.
“I don’t know, and I guess I wouldn’t even need to,” Noelle answered, feeling very proud and accomplished.
“Why?” I asked, almost confused.
“Because your ex-husband has returned to his table with his friends, whom I am certain are going to make jest of him,” Noelle said.
Noelle hardly knew the kind of man Mark Ronaldo was; no matter how badly you came at him, his friends would never have the balls to make jest of the situation or make him feel terrible. I had seen how they were around him a couple of times, and they literally worshipped the ground he walked on, but I decided not to deflate Noelle’s confidence with that piece of information.
“He still hasn’t signed the papers, which means that we are still married, and he is upset because it was his money I spent for all these,” I told Noelle.
“Come on, Alexa, can you stop talking about that asshole for a minute and just focus on what is in front of you?” Noelle asked, referring to the ten men who were gliding and whining sensually. “Look, if you are going to make Mark feel like a piece of shit tonight, you will have to actually ogle these men and do something wild. I bet his eyes are still glued to you,” Noelle added.
I made the mistake of turning to check just to confirm, and true to Noelle’s words, Mark was looking at us, as our eyes connected from our tables apart.
I swallowed and looked away. Then I said to Noelle, “You know what, you are right.”
“Yes, girl, work it!” Noelle said loudly like a drunken woman, urging me on.
With that, I grabbed some money from my purse, climbed up the stage and allowed some of the men to flirt with me while they danced and I sprayed them without a single fuck in the world.
ALEXAMark and I talked deep into the night. Surprisingly, neither of us went back to sleep. We easily deviated from Mark’s vows and his wait for a response to the baby kicking and the joy that filled our hearts.I had never felt anything like it before.I felt alive!“Good morning, beautiful,” Mark said as he walked into the bedroom with a tray of breakfast, just as he had done the previous morning.“How long are you going to keep up with this?” I asked Mark lightly as I sat up straighter.I didn’t even realize that it was mid-morning. Thank goodness that Mark thought of getting me breakfast because I was already famished.“For as long as you will have me,” Mark responded without feeling offended by my question. He placed the tray of breakfast in front of me and I almost threw everything into my mouth. They looked delicious already! The first thing I tried was Lora’s baked honey bread and they tasted like heaven. I expected that it would be tasty because Lora was good at what she did
ALEXAHaving Mark wrap his arms around me for the second night in a row felt unreal. It felt safe, and a tiny part of me wanted this every single night. For all the cold and lonely nights, this felt like a compensation, and I really wouldn’t like to go back to those nights, especially now that the baby was growing. In a few months, we would welcome our child. Our child…Some weeks ago, I didn’t want Mark anywhere around me. I didn’t even want him to know that I was having a baby, but right now, lying next to him after two rounds of lovemaking in the middle of the night, it felt as though we were a complete and perfect family.Still, I was worried. With Mark, it had never been rosy. There was always one heartbreak or the next looming around and frankly, I didn’t think I wanted to have anything to do with a heartbreak, especially if it would come from Mark.I was still reminiscing on the thought when I felt Mark’s hand on my stomach, and gently, he caressed my bump which seemed to have
MARKAlexa and I found ourselves in the bedroom. I had completely forgotten that I was supposed to be weak and ill.We just couldn’t get up the stairs fast enough. At some point, I even had to lift Alexa slightly so that she would be able to go up the stairs as fast as I was going. And then before we got to the bedroom, we were already taking off each other’s clothes and littering them on the aisle.I kissed Alexa as though my life depended on it.It seemed like the last time I tasted her lips was months ago.“Gosh, Alexa, I missed you so much,” I murmured into her mouth before deepening the kiss. And that prevented Alexa from giving a response.I didn’t even need the response. What was important right now was the fact that we both needed to feel each other badly.Gently, I lay Alexa on the bed and then proceeded to turn her around so that I could have her from behind, but Alexa stopped me.“I need you to go fast, Mark,” Alexa demanded huskily. “I want you to pound into me like you ha
ALEXA“Come in, Mark,” I eventually said when it seemed as though an eternity of silence had passed between us.Vector led a weak Mark into the living room.“Do you want me to help you upstairs or would you rather have Vector do it?” I asked Mark.Maybe he might prefer it if Vector did although I wouldn’t have minded. I had looked after Mark in worse conditions.“I think I can make it up the stairs on my own,” Mark responded tiredly.“Are you sure?” I asked worriedly.I hadn’t seen Mark this weak in a really long time. The last time I did, it was after he got out of coma, but I was trying not to think about those moments because that would only lead me to thinking about all the hurt and ingratitude that came with it.“Yes, I am,” Mark responded.“And I really should be on my way,” Vector said. And that was when I recalled that Vector was truly here. My whole attention had been solely on Mark that I hadn’t even paid any attention to Vector, or maybe it was because he didn’t need my att
MARK“Did it work? What did Alexa say? What is her response?” I asked Vector frantically when he returned to the car.Waiting in the car had to be one of the longest wait I have experienced recently.Too many thoughts had run through my mind.Alexa Silver was extremely stubborn. I had met a lot of stubborn women, but never had I met anyone as obstinate as Alexa, especially when she was upset, and I knew that after being after all day after my promises to be back soon, she would be livid as hell. And that was enough for her to say that I had failed the condition that she had given me, and that she wouldn’t want to marry me.“Did she buy it?” I kept asking Vector worriedly without even giving him the chance to answer any of the questions I had asked. “Give me an answer, Vector,” I urged him.Vector came up with this genius idea and I accepted without hesitation because I couldn’t think of anything else, but I knew without a doubt that I would blame Vector if this backfired or if Alexa d
ALEXA“Did you enjoy dinner, ma’am?” Lora asked me.“Yes, I did,” I answered.I was certain that the food was good because since Lora got here, she had always made delicious meals, only that I was so pissed off that I didn’t feel the taste of the food in my mouth. It was as though I was shoving dust down my throat. But I couldn’t tell Lora that because it wasn’t her fault.I was pissed off.All day, Mark Ronaldo neither showed up nor called. Was he looking for an opportunity to leave?Since I accepted Mark back into my life, there hadn’t been anything sexual between us. Not even a relationship. Even though we didn’t categorically state it, we both knew that we weren’t back together; it was all for the baby.Thinking of it now, Mark and I never really dated. In Toronto and a few weeks after we got back, it was just sex. There was never a relationship definition, and it was just the same as what was happening right now. If I hadn’t called Mark last night, he wouldn’t have spent the nigh
ALEXASeeing Mark at my apartment, especially when I was at his house the night before, surprised me, but the moment he stared deep into my eyes and asked that question, every reason and logic flew out of my head, and the only thing I could think of was Mark kissing me.Mark kissed me, and I abando
MARKI didn’t have an exact expectation aside to see that Alexa was safe and unharmed, but what I didn’t expect was to have her in my arms like this.Alexa held onto me for dear life, and as I held her in return, I could feel her shakiness deep inside, and that alone confirmed my fear.I looked up,
MARK“Are you sure that this is the right move to make?” Clinton asked.Vector was driving us to Donald’s house after Clinton showed us the picture that his private investigator had sent, and this was the third time he was asking this question. He was sitting behind while Vector and I sat in front.
IVY“I haven’t seen you this eager for your doctor’s appointment,” Lina Barry told me.As much as I tried to hide my eager anticipation, I could barely. Since the last appointment, I had been counting the days before the next one.“I am not eager about anything,” I denied.Lina Barry, although bein
