ALEXA
“Let go of her, right now!”
That was Noelle’s voice, and it was what brought me back to reality. Everyone present at the club was now looking at us, and Mark’s hand still held onto my wrist possessively…and painfully.
“Let her go, Mark,” Noelle ordered again when it seemed as though Mark was deaf to her orders.
“Stay out of this,” Mark eventually said, glaring at Noelle. His voice was throaty and husky, and I wondered if it was as a result of what happened between the two of us; if he felt it too, or if it was as a result of his anger.
“Why should I?” Noelle asked, facing Mark fearlessly and boldly.
She had never liked him, and knowing Noelle the way I did, I knew that she would definitely use this opportunity to get at Mark for what he made me go through. She hardly ever saw him, because she could not stand his presence.
“Last time I checked, she was your ex-wife, Mark,” Noelle added.
Mark smirked. “You are mistaken, Noelle,” he simply said, leaving Noelle’s eyes to budge out in shock and confusion, and she turned to me quickly.
“Alexa?” Noelle called out, demanding some sort of answers from me immediately, and I knew that I just had to step in.
I could not continue to just keep quiet and not say a word. Clearly, Mark intended to rile Noelle up, and also, he intended to ruin the fun that we were here to have, and I was not going to allow that to happen.
I snatched my arm away from Mark’s grip and looked at him with bitterness and anger, which wasn’t even hard to do because all he did to me were still fresh and hurtful.
“I divorced you, Mark,” I told Mark, loud enough for Noelle and everyone to hear.
I began to hear some murmurs from the people watching us, but I would not back down. This was a new me, and I intended to let Mark and everyone know this. Looking at Mark now, I could see how cruel, possessive, and selfish he was. This was his ploy to take control, but for the very first time, I would let him know that he had failed woefully.
“I haven’t signed the divorce papers,” Mark said.
He still had that disgusting smirk on his face, and his tone was nothing short of condescending and aggravating, which was just the typical Mark Ronaldo.
“And you will,” I said without flinching or stuttering.
I guessed my tone and the confidence in the sound of my voice took Mark by surprise, because I did catch a flicker of astonishment before it was gone.
“So this is what you intend to do with your life? Get away from me and whore around the city like a loose dog?” Mark asked insultingly.
Rarely had he finished the question before my palm connected with his cheek in a loud smack and everyone gushed in shock. Even Mark was too stunned to respond at first, and I glared at him, waiting and daring him to return the favor.
“You should have just let her be, Mark,” Noelle chipped in. “Now see how embarrassed you have ended up,” Noelle added.
She quickly moved me away from Mark’s presence and stood in my place, so when Mark gazed his eyes upon me again, it was Noelle that he was looking at.
“Alexa is no longer your wife and she is pleased to do whatever she likes with her life. The Dancing Devil is a place for anyone who can afford it, and if you dare try to attack, harass, confront, or even speak to her again, I will have the securities throw you out and demand that the management keep you out of this place for a really long time,” Noelle added threateningly.
With that, without even waiting for Mark to say a word in his defense, she turned to me and led me to our booked chamber, and the ten men who had been hired by Noelle climbed the mini-stage in our chamber and began to entertain us as though nothing had happened.
“You would really do that?” I asked Noelle, because to me, that threat seemed somewhat extreme, and knowing how stubborn and daring Mark was, he might actually take her up on that threat, and if she failed to deliver, it would blow up in our faces.
“I don’t know, and I guess I wouldn’t even need to,” Noelle answered, feeling very proud and accomplished.
“Why?” I asked, almost confused.
“Because your ex-husband has returned to his table with his friends, whom I am certain are going to make jest of him,” Noelle said.
Noelle hardly knew the kind of man Mark Ronaldo was; no matter how badly you came at him, his friends would never have the balls to make jest of the situation or make him feel terrible. I had seen how they were around him a couple of times, and they literally worshipped the ground he walked on, but I decided not to deflate Noelle’s confidence with that piece of information.
“He still hasn’t signed the papers, which means that we are still married, and he is upset because it was his money I spent for all these,” I told Noelle.
“Come on, Alexa, can you stop talking about that asshole for a minute and just focus on what is in front of you?” Noelle asked, referring to the ten men who were gliding and whining sensually. “Look, if you are going to make Mark feel like a piece of shit tonight, you will have to actually ogle these men and do something wild. I bet his eyes are still glued to you,” Noelle added.
I made the mistake of turning to check just to confirm, and true to Noelle’s words, Mark was looking at us, as our eyes connected from our tables apart.
I swallowed and looked away. Then I said to Noelle, “You know what, you are right.”
“Yes, girl, work it!” Noelle said loudly like a drunken woman, urging me on.
With that, I grabbed some money from my purse, climbed up the stage and allowed some of the men to flirt with me while they danced and I sprayed them without a single fuck in the world.
MARKMy ears had to either be playing tricks on me, or the cops had suddenly taken to playing silly pranks.“Excuse me?” I expressed in shock.“What is going on here?” Mr. Devon asked protectively. He was acting as though he was my dad who saw the need to protect me, and it warmed my heart that he would stand up for me, but there was a more serious situation on ground, so I couldn’t even dwell on that.“It is just an invitation,” the first cop said calmly. It doesn’t stop it from being beneath my status and reputation. Worse, coming to my company to arrest me, who happened to be the owner and CEO of the company. How pathetic and embarrassing could that be?My annoyance grew.“Why am I being invited to the station regarding Alexa’s attack?” I asked them.Alexa was here just a few hours ago, so I didn’t quite understand what was going on. Her last question was if I went to the station to see Oscar, and she had left without even giving me the chance to explain what I went there for.Did
MARKThe rest of the day went like a blur. I was restless before Alexa showed up with her questions, but after she left, I was more restless than I had ever been. She seemed very hurt and disappointed and upset, and those were emotions that I hadn’t seen in her eyes before, or maybe it was because I was getting to pay attention to Alexa.I tried to concentrate at work, but it was very difficult for me, so much so that I had to call my secretary.“Cancel every other appointment and work I have to do today,” I told her the moment she picked up the call.I didn’t give her the chance to ask any questions, which I knew that she would want to ask, because it was unusual for me to just cancel every appointment in the middle of the day. I shut my office door and paced around, confused.I would have called Vector, but being that all this time, I had been denying everything, I couldn’t, so I changed my mind.“Should I go after her?” I asked myself. It was a thought I considered, even a few minu
IVY“You need to leave, ma’am,” the cop told me.Oscar had been dragged roughly back to the cell, and it hurt me deeply that I could do nothing to stop or help him. In that moment, I wished that I had some sort of power to get him out of this situation. I was scared of leaving, because I had no idea when I would be able to see him again. What did he mean by it was already too late?“Why did you drag him away like that?” I asked defensively, standing up for Oscar. “He didn’t do anything wrong!” I added.“I would leave if I were you,” he said, ignoring my outburst, and as though it was an afterthought, he whispered warningly to me, “And you should never tell anyone that you were here.”Shivers ran down my spine at the tone and words that he used.“Why not?” I asked curiously. Not that I would have announced to the world that I came to see Oscar, because he was nothing but my secret lover, but I still wanted to know why I was being warned in that dreadful and fearful manner.“Two powerfu
IVYI had no option but to wait for them to finish up their round of argument, of which my mum didn’t win this time around, unfortunately.Mr. Silver stormed out of the house in a rage, while my mum stormed upstairs. As soon as I noticed that she was coming up the stairs, I decked and hid quickly by the staircase where she would not be able to see me. Then when she walked past me angrily, I hurried downstairs and out of the living room. I wasn’t going to let her or whatever argument she was having with Mr. Silver prevent me from doing what I wanted to do, especially now that I had a new motive in mind.In no time, I was on my way to the station to see Oscar.I just had to see him and talk to him.Since I heard the news, I had become restless, and knowing the newfound popularity that Alexa was annoyingly gaining, she might want to pull some weight against Oscar, especially now that she had a certain Donald Shell by her side.My mum had been raising hell and brimstone since she informed
IVY The scar from the injury incurred at Oscar’s apartment was taking its precious time to heal, and I knew that I should continue hiding in the house to prevent nosy gossips from carrying the news, but with what I read about Alexa being attacked and Oscar being arrested, I just couldn’t continue staying holed up.I had been isolated for days, but not once did Mark think to call or even ask about me.I was scared and worried that he had moved on without me, especially with the stunt I pulled at his house, but my mum kept assuring me that after the conversation she had with him, he would not think of calling off our engagement.I was also bothered about Oscar not even bothering to reach out, especially being that he was the reason I was in this condition in the first place, but that was not before news of him breaking into Alexa’s apartment and assaulting her circulated the internet.“Now I know why you haven’t been thinking about me,” I said to myself painfully as I got dressed. It w
ALEXASo many things filled my mind as I approached Mark’s house. I was still struggling to believe what I heard from Oscar’s confession, and Donald’s words, but the evidences were glaring.More like the more I tried to find Mark innocent, the more things unfolded against him.Was I a fool for thinking that Mark wasn’t capable of harm? Was I stupid for thinking that he was different from the other wealthy and powerful businessman in the city? Growing up, I had been aware that they were all a bunch of cruel and dangerous men.“Why aren’t you as wealthy as the other businessmen, dad?” I had asked my dad when I turned twenty. He had been working hard and tirelessly to grow his business, but it never got bigger than I knew it to be. It had been as though he was just stagnant, and being that I had begun to help him out with emails, ledgers, and files, I began to realize that he was neither going forward nor moving backwards, which had made me deeply curious. So I had asked him one day when
