At first, I thought that Mr. Devon was just kidding, even though I knew that he wasn’t a man that told jokes often, but when I looked at his expression, he seemed very serious about what he just said.

“Why should I stay away, Mr. Devon?” I asked him.

This was certainly not what I was expecting from him at all.

“What you have been accused of is just as criminal as murder, or close. You have been accused of plotting with a man to attack your ex-wife, Mark,” Mr. Devon recounted.

“I know what I have been accused of,” I interrupted him impatiently.

I hated to get into an argument with Mr. Devon of all people, but then again, this wasn’t something that I wanted to just accept.

“And I am innocent,” I added firmly.

“We already established that fact, Mark, but until proven otherwise, the public does not share the same sentiment. What you should have done when Alexa decided to file a case against you is ensure that it never gets out to the public,” Mr. Devon said.
