Lisha had become desperate for freedom and escape the cruelty of her life . With being up all night she had finally made her final decision to kill her husband. She got off her bed heavy with child but she could not feel it cause her burdens were heavier and went back to Akua for help .

Upon her arrival she rushed in the room without knocking, she was not scared of the bones or Akua anymore she was just full of vengeance to not focus on other things. “Akua I need your help…please”.

“So rude of you to just barge in my chambers and start blasting”.

“I’m so sorry, it’s an emergency “.

“What do you want child?”.

“I need some sort of remedy or p..poi..poison “.

“For what ?“.

“I found a way to end this for good , I know you said there is nothing I can do but with clear thoughts I concluded that his death will set me free , I said till death do us part hence if one of us dies then it will be over “.

Akua laughed. “You are so funny do you know that , I will give something however be careful what you wish for remember you made a mistake in the beginning you should learn from it and avoid more mistakes now I’ll ask you , are you sure you want this liquid I’m gonna give to you?”

“I’ve never been sure about anything in my life than this”.

“Okay you pour this in the food everyday, when the did is done it will look like a natural death, now leave I have important things to do - you keep coming at wrong times”.

“ Thank you Akua , thank you”.

Dinner time Lisha made Dave’s favourite meal but he refused to eat . Dave had stopped trusting Lisha he did not understand why she was always nice to her regardless of how unfairly he treats her. He thought maybe she was planning something, he wasn’t at ease . Both husbands and wife developed trust issues against each other counting each other’s moves and ready to strike .

“Why are you not eating Dave ?”.

“Because I’m not hungry “.

“Okay I’ll just put this away then “.

“Why ? Why is it okay Lisha? Everything is always okay with you are you planning something against me I don’t know you want to kill me maybe , and you know no one will say it’s you since you are a good wife who always listens to her husband whereas I’m the bad guy I drink , I don’t provide for you , I beat up my pregnant wife , they absolutely have no reason to suspect you “.

“Dont you think that if I wanted to kill you I would have done it a long time ago, I had many chances to do so Dave”.

“You know what I don’t have time for this I’m going out”.

Dave couldn’t shake off the thought of his wife plotting against him, he decided to return home and not spend his night at the bar as usual to keep an eye on Lisha. It was past midnight both sleeping facing opposite direction with eyes wide open one thinking of what another must be thinking about.

In the morning after Dave had taken a shower , Lisha making breakfast he went to the wardrobe taking out his clothes . He noticed a little weird looking bottle on Lisha’s side of the wardrobe, Dave suspicion grew -he sighs in distress wondering what to do . “Breakfast is ready !”

Dave sits on the dinner table anxiously. He offered Lisha the first bite of the toasted bread and first sip of the tea. Lisha was very puzzled about what is happening.

“Why are you feeding me all of a sudden ?”.

“You are my wife after all so you should eat first”.

It was a Saturday and Lisha was heavy hence she was asked not to come to work until she gives birth and she’s fit and healthy . Normally Dave would leave to drink out however that specific day he never left the house to observe every move of Lisha, he even threw away his 2 cans of beer he had in the fridge in fear of being poisoned. Awkwardness rushed through the couple like they were ready to attack an enemy, just waiting for the right time and right moment.

The house felt different the moment Adia was left alone. At first, she tried to ignore it.She moved around, straightening things that didn’t need fixing, adjusting cushions, wiping already clean surfaces—anything to keep her mind busy. But it didn’t work. The thoughts came anyway.*The way they laughed together…**How easily Dave mentioned her favorite color… her size…**The way things just seemed… natural between them.*Adia sat down slowly, her hand resting on her stomach.“No,” she whispered to herself. “It’s nothing.”But even as she said it she didn’t fully believe it. By the time evening came, she had managed to calm herself… at least on the surface. So when the door opened, she stood up, ready to welcome her husband back home. But then—She froze.Dave walked in with Lisha, together…again. Adia’s smile came automatically.“You’re back,” she said. But her eyes searched them carefully. Lisha noticed.“Oh—um,” she started quickly, sensing the unspoken question. “Since Dave droppe

Lisha stepped into her workplace that morning, but her mind was nowhere near it.Everything felt… distant. Her hands moved automatically, doing what they always did, but her thoughts were tangled somewhere else—somewhere dangerous. That hug. It replayed over and over again in her mind. The warmth. The closeness. The way, for just a moment, everything felt… right. And that was the problem. Her expression hardened slightly as she tried to shake it off.*He’s Adia’s husband.*The thought came sharply, almost like a warning. But it didn’t erase the feeling. It only made it worse. Her phone rang. Lisha blinked, snapping out of her thoughts as she glanced at the screen.Adia. She answered immediately.“Hey,” Lisha said, trying to sound normal.“Hey!” Adia’s voice was bright, warm. “Don’t stay too long at work today, okay? Come home early. And don’t stress yourself.”Lisha paused. That voice along with kindness and trust. It hit her all at once.“I… I won’t,” she replied softly.“Good,” Adia

By the time Adia and Lisha returned home, the late afternoon sun had softened into a warm glow, casting long shadows across the driveway.Adia balanced a few shopping bags in her hands, her energy returning slightly after the quiet tension at the mall. Lisha followed behind, quieter, thoughtful, still carrying the weight of everything the day had stirred within her.But the moment they stepped inside, something felt different. Someone was already there.Adia paused.“Grandma?”From the sitting room, her grandmother sat upright, hands folded neatly over her handbag, her presence commanding as always.“Adia,” she said, her tone firm.Adia frowned slightly. “You should’ve called me, I would’ve come to you.”“It was urgent,” her grandmother replied. “That’s why I came.”Lisha stepped forward politely.“Good afternoon, Ma’am,” she greeted gently. Her grandmother looked at her. There was no warmth in her eyes.“Afternoon,” she replied shortly. The difference was clear. Lisha felt it immedia

The door had barely closed behind Lisha when the tension began to build.Adia was still glowing with excitement, helping Lisha carry her bags inside, chatting endlessly about where she would stay, what she needed, how everything would work.Dave, however, stood still in the middle of the living room. Processing what was going on.“Adia,” he finally said. There was something in his tone that made her pause.“We need to talk.”The bedroom door shut behind them, cutting off the warmth from the rest of the house.“What is this?” Dave asked, his voice low but firm. “You didn’t even tell me she was moving in.”Adia crossed her arms, already prepared.“I did tell you,” she argued. “I’ve been telling you.”“Telling me she *should* move in is not the same as her showing up with luggage!”Adia exhaled sharply, her excitement fading into frustration.“She has nowhere to go, Dave.”“That’s not true and you know it,” he replied. “She has a mansion.”“A house isn’t the same as a home,” Adia shot ba

Rain drizzled softly against the café windows, painting the city in blurred streaks of gray and gold. The afternoon crowd had thinned, leaving only scattered conversations and the faint sound of jazz playing overhead.Lisha sat quietly near the corner window, her fingers wrapped around a cup of untouched coffee. She looked different now. Not because of the expensive black dress she wore or the tiredness beneath her eyes, but because grief had changed the way she carried herself.Carefully.As though the world might break her if she moved too quickly. When the café door opened, Adia stepped inside, scanning the room until their eyes met. For a second, neither woman moved. Then Adia smiled softly. Lisha stood, and the two embraced tightly. It had been weeks since they had truly seen each other—not through television screens, not through headlines or whispered gossip, but face to face. Real. Human.“How are you holding up?” Adia asked as they sat down.Lisha gave a small laugh, though th
