Rowan shrugged calmly, sitting in the armchair like he had all the time in the world, with his arms crossed over his chest. He didn’t look fazed at all.

“Yes. Him,” he said smoothly, like it was the most obvious answer in the world.

I gaped at him. “Rowan, have you completely lost it? Why Lucas? You do realize he can’t stand me, right?”

“Exactly why he’s perfect,” Rowan replied.

My jaw nearly dropped to the floor. “Perfect? Are you even hearing yourself? The next thing you’ll say is that Chloe will be joining in too. Maybe I should just line up every single person who hates my guts and let them take turns beating me senseless. Would that make you happy?”

His lips twitched like he was fighting back a smile. “Don’t tempt me,” he murmured, raising an eyebrow at me.

I narrowed my eyes. “That’s not funny.”

“I wasn’t joking.”

My jaw dropped. “You cannot be serious.”
