Aurora stared at him.

“You’re serious,” she said.

“Yes.”

She let out a short breath. “We don’t know each other. We met tonight. Why would you want to marry me?”

Damon looked at her calmly. “I need a wife in name only. Someone who can stand beside me publicly and deal with certain pressures I have been managing alone for too long.” He paused. “I am not looking for love. I am not expecting you to pretend we are something we are not behind closed doors. It is an arrangement. Nothing more.”

Later that afternoon, Damon sat in the garden with his phone in his hand.He had been going through a few messages when he remembered the guard that accompanied Aurora hadn’t given him a report. He called the guard.“Did anything happen while you were with Aurora?” Damon asked.“Nothing serious, Alpha.”Damon frowned. “What does that mean?”The guard hesitated.“A man approached Mrs Blackwood at the supermarket. He said a few things to her, but I handled the situation.”“What things?”The guard was quiet for a moment.“He insulted her, Alpha.”Damon’s expression changed.“What sort of insult?”“He called her a maid. He also referred to her as a slave working for the Blackwood family.”“What?”The guard swallowed before continuing.“I believe it was because of the way Madam was dressed. She was wearing simple clothes, and the man seemed to think she was one of the workers in the mansion.”Damon’s jaw tightened.Someone had looked at his wife and thought she was a slave?“And you allowe

Aurora walked into the supermarket with the two men following her.She grabbed a basket and started down the first aisle. Soap, towels, a small lamp for the bedside table. When she turned around, both guards stopped too.She stared at them for a moment.“Do you two plan to follow me into every aisle?”One of them cleared his throat. “We were instructed not to leave you alone ma’am.”Aurora looked at the bottle of soap in her hand, then back at them.“Wonderful.”She turned around and continued shopping. She picked up a few more things she needed, including toothpaste, a toothbrush, body lotion, and some hair products. She also bought a few snacks before heading to the checkout counter. When it was time to pay, she took out the card Damon had given her.She hesitated for a moment before handing it to the cashier. She didn’t like the idea of using his money, even though he had given her the card himself. She only bought what she needed. There was no reason to spend more than that. After

  • Too Late, Ex, I Married The Alpha   A Public Encounter

A knock on the door woke Aurora."Mrs Blackwood, breakfast is ready," a woman called from outside.Aurora opened her eyes and stared at the unfamiliar ceiling. It took her a few seconds to remember where she was.Damon's mansion. She sat up, rubbed her face, and got out of bed. After washing up and changing into simple clothes, she opened the door.A maid stood outside."Good morning, ma'am.""Good morning.""The Alpha is waiting for you downstairs."Aurora raised an eyebrow. "He sent you to wake me up?"The maid smiled politely. "He asked me to tell you that breakfast is ready.""Right. Thank you."Aurora followed her downstairs. The dining room was large, with a long table set for several people. She chose a seat and began eating. She had barely taken a few bites when Damon walked in.He glanced at her plate before taking the seat across from her."You seem comfortable."Aurora looked up at him."Is that your own way of saying good morning?"Damon picked up his cutlery. "I didn't kn

Aurora was on her way to the hospital when Mira called."Where are you?""Almost there.""Good. I'll meet you at the entrance."Aurora ended the call and put her phone away. She had not seen Mira since everything happened with Ethan and the serum. They had talked on the phone, but it was not the same.Mira was waiting near the entrance. The moment she saw Aurora, her face lit up."Aurora!"She pulled her into a tight hug."Mira, I can't breathe," Aurora laughed."Good. Maybe that will teach you not to disappear on me." Mira held her arm. "I've been worried sick about you.""I'm fine.""You're fine?" Mira repeated. "You disappeared into the Blackwood world, got your mother's medication and now you're telling me you're fine?"Aurora smiled. "I missed you.”Mira's expression softened. "I missed you more than you know."She grabbed Aurora's hand. "Come on. We're going to sit down and you're going to tell me everything."They found a quiet spot near the hospital cafeteria. Mira ordered two

Ethan was still at his desk at midnight. The study was quiet except for the sound of him tapping his fingers on the armrest. His assistant stood near the door with a tablet, waiting."The serum delivery," Ethan said. "I want to know exactly who authorized it. Name, department, how it was processed and through which channel it left Blackwood Biomedical."His assistant nodded. "I will have something by morning.""I also want Aurora's movements from the last forty eight hours. Everywhere she went. Everyone she contacted.""Understood.""That is all."His assistant stepped out and shut the door behind him.Ethan leaned back in his chair and stared at the ceiling.Someone with serious influence had reached into his affairs and pulled Aurora out of his grip before he could close it. That did not happen by accident. People don’t help strangers out of kindness, especially not people connected to the Blackwood family. There is always a reason, always an exchange. What had Aurora offered them

The key still worked.Aurora pushed the door open and stepped inside. The house was quiet and smelled like dust and closed windows. Small living room, her mother’s old couch against the wall, a few framed photos above the fireplace. Everything exactly where it had always been. She stood in the middle of it for a moment. This was where she had grown up. Where her mother had worked double shifts to keep the lights on and still found time to sit with her at the kitchen table every evening. It felt smaller than she remembered but it felt more like home than anywhere she had been in the last five years. She set her bag down and sat on the couch. Her mind went immediately.Damon at breakfast completely composed, not a single word about the kiss, going through the marriage contract like it was just another document on his desk. The way he had looked at her when she asked why he chose her. That answer that she still could not decide was an insult or a compliment. And the photograph. She kep
