Chapter 2

Author: Sweet Beet
Now I've seen everything! After years of seeing Mom threaten people, now it was my turn to be threatened.

A cold smirk tugged at the corner of my lips as I turned to Leo. “A dog hiding behind someone else’s power, huh? Even Selena wouldn’t dare say something as crazy as that. And you? Who the hell do you think you are?”

“Who are you calling a dog?” he snapped.

I looked around. “You hear anyone else barking around here?”

“You… You bastard!” Furious, Leo clenched his fist and threw a punch at me.

I stepped back effortlessly, dodging him completely. He missed and slammed face-first onto the floor.

“Wow, Leo, you really committed to the role,” I said. “I call you a dog, and you roll on the ground so spectacularly? I appreciate the performance.”

He scrambled up from the ground, pointing at me as he cursed, “You bastard! Just you wait!”

I warned him, “If you don’t clean up that filthy mouth of yours, I’ll do it for you.”

My mom had me train with martial arts masters for self-defense since I was a kid, and guys like Leo? I could take on three of him without breaking a sweat.

The look in my eyes must’ve hit him hard. He stammered but kept his mouth shut.

More and more people were starting to gather around to watch the show, but I wasn’t in the mood to be some street corner entertainment. Hence, I bent down, picked up the black card he’d dropped, walked back into the store, bought the watch, and turned to leave.

Once again, Leo stepped in front of me, trying to block my way. He’d already burned through all my patience, so without hesitation, I lifted my foot, ready to kick him out of my way when…

“Stop!”

A woman’s voice, low and commanding, rang out from behind me.

Leo immediately rushed to her side, putting on a pitiful face. “Ms. Jackson, you’re finally here! He’s the one who’s been bullying me this whole time…”

I turned to look at Selena, and I’ll admit, I was momentarily stunned.

No wonder my mom said I’d be satisfied with her as a blind date. She had long legs, a slim waist, and porcelain skin. She looked very much like my favorite celebrity crush. Just for that face alone, I decided to give her another chance.

I put on a polite smile. “Ms. Jackson, right? I’m Xavier Hamilton. I’m your blind date today. Your mom should’ve mentioned me.”

Her mom, by the way, used to be a low-level employee at one of our family’s branch companies. My mom appreciated her business sense and personally helped the Jacksons to rise to their current status today.

Selena gave me a quick scan before saying in disdain, “Twenty-eight and still a virgin? We’re not a match.”

She sure had a poisoned tongue because her words hit me like a slap.

Twenty-eight and that was old now? I’d stayed clean, respected myself, and didn’t mess around, and she mocked me for it?

“Did you brush your teeth this morning? That mouth of yours stinks. Didn’t your parents teach you basic manners?”

Her face darkened instantly. “Manners? For someone like you? A hillbilly? I don’t care what spell you cast on my mom to set this up, but I’ll never marry a bumpkin like you.”

Right on cue, Leo clung to her arm and looked at me with open disdain. “Look at your ugly face. How do you think you deserve someone as beautiful and brilliant as Ms. Jackson?”

The crowd jumped in right away, eager to fan the flames.

“Look at his clothes. They can’t be worth more than a hundred bucks! And he’s dreaming of marrying Ms. Jackson? How delusional!”

“She’s got beauty, brains, and a powerhouse background. She could have any man she wants. Why would she settle for him?”

“Just another over-the-hill loser daydreaming. Someone wake him up!”

Sure, I was not as handsome as a movie star, but I was definitely not whatever they were trying to make me out to be.

Honestly, the world really did favor the rich.

“You know what?” I said. “Even if you begged, I still wouldn’t marry you. Go home and tell your mom I’m not interested.”

“I understand, Sir. I’ll issue a company-wide statement cutting all ties with Selena immediately.”I nodded and then added calmly, “Oh, and Mrs. Jackson, since it seems Selena and her assistant are truly in love, you shouldn’t interfere with their relationship anymore. Let them enjoy their doomed little romance in peace.”Love without stability was nothing but a sandcastle waiting to collapse. Now that Selena had lost her position and status, I was eager to see how long that so-called love of theirs would actually last.In the end, the watch still ended up in my hands, and Harry escorted me safely back home.My mom flew back that very night. The moment she saw the bruise on my face, she was ready to storm out and tear Selena and Leo apart.I gently grabbed her arm and said softly, “Mom, I’m fine. I’ve gotten my revenge.”However, she was fuming. “I let you have your way in everything, but not this. You’re my baby boy. I never even scolded you growing up, and they dare to lay hand

Selena’s face was bruised and swollen. She hadn’t even wiped her tears before she started complaining loudly.“Mom! That bastard hit me and humiliated me in public! You have to get revenge for me! I want to destroy–”Before she could finish, Daisy slapped her hard across the face.“You ungrateful brat! Get on your knees and apologize to him, right now!”Selena was stunned by the blow. Then, she screamed back in disbelief, “Mom, have you lost your mind? I was the one who got hit! And now you want me to apologize to him?”Daisy kicked the back of Selena’s knee, forcing her to kneel.Bent forward awkwardly, Daisy forced a smile and looked up at me. “Sir, it’s all my fault for not raising her right. Please, forgive her this once.”I gently patted her on the shoulder and said, “Mrs. Jackson, have you forgotten how you got to where you are today? From a low-level clerk to your current position, it was all thanks to my mom’s support.”Daisy nodded quickly, bowing as she spoke. “Of cou

Getting yelled at by her own mother in front of everyone made Selena’s expression stiffen. Her pride had taken a hit, and her rebellious streak instantly flared up.“Mom, I don’t know what kind of spell this guy cast on you to make you take his side,” she snapped. “But I’m not apologizing. I’ve been with Leo for two and a half years. Whether you like it or not, he’s going to be your son-in-law!”“You ungrateful girl! Are you trying to give me a heart attack? I’m coming over right now to knock some sense into that thick skull of yours!”“Please stay out of my business. I’ll handle it myself.”Selena hung up the phone with a sharp flick and turned to glare at me, her face dark with rage.“Xavier, I don’t care what kind of tricks you pulled on my mom, but let me tell you something. I’m not buying it. I don’t care who you bring here today. It won’t work on me!”I calmly slipped my phone back into my pocket. “In that case, I won’t bring anyone. I’ll handle this my way.”My voice turn

I looked at her and couldn’t help but laugh. “Leo insulted me first, tried to steal the watch, and even hit me. I haven’t even begun to settle that score. And you? Who the hell are you to tell me what to do?”Selena’s expression darkened. She glared at me and warned in a low voice, “Xavier, I was willing to let this go as a favor to you. Don’t push your luck. You should think carefully about the consequences of crossing the Jackson Group. Can you really afford that?”I chuckled. “That’s what I should be saying to you. Cross me, and not just you, but the entire Jackson Group won’t be able to handle the fallout. Now step aside. Once I’m done with this scumbag, I’ll deal with you next.”Gasps rippled through the crowd.“Who is this guy? Did he just say even the Jackson Group can’t afford to mess with him?”“Jackson Group is one of the fastest-growing companies in Capital City. There are only a few that could rival them. Is he from the Hilton family or something?”“No way, I’ve seen

Gasps rippled through the crowd inside the mall. All eyes turned toward me in disbelief.“Oh my God! Who is this guy? I can’t believe he managed to pull together a hundred million in cash just like that!”“He looks average, yet he just dropped a hundred million like it’s nothing!”“This has to be fake. I couldn’t even scrape up that much fake money this fast!”Leading the group was Harry, my mom’s most trusted right-hand man. He walked toward me calmly, followed by ten sharply dressed and trained men.The two bodyguards standing next to Selena were instantly overwhelmed by their intimidating presence and instinctively let go of me.Harry approached and gave a respectful bow. “Sir, Mrs. Hamilton is flying back as we speak. She told me to come ahead and handle things for you.”I nodded and turned to Leo. “I always keep my word. Here’s the hundred million you asked for. Go ahead, count it.”Leo, who still hadn’t fully grasped what was happening, stared at me with disbelief as he s

Not only did I look down on her, but I also fully intended to complain about her when I got back so that Mrs. Jackson could deal with that idiot herself.Refusing to waste another second arguing with that pair of clowns, I turned around, ready to leave. However, Leo suddenly reached out and snatched the watch from my hands.“You piece of trash! You want to leave? Fine, but the watch stays!”I thought, ‘Wow. So we’re just robbing people in broad daylight now?’I grabbed his arm and twisted hard. He let out a yelp of pain and dropped the watch, which landed back in my hand.“If I don’t want something, I’ll toss it, but no one takes what’s mine.”Leo turned to Selena pitifully. “Ms. Jackson, he just attacked me! Are you really going to let a trash like him get away with this?”Without even thinking, I raised my hand and slapped him across the face. “If I hear that word ‘trash’ from your mouth one more time, I’ll make sure you never speak again.”Some people just wouldn’t learn unt
