LOGINLara's POV
“Your lies weren't enough and now you're trying to blame poor Ria? She doesn't even know what we're talking about. Must you be so shameless?” Gerald asked in annoyance and I gasped, shaking my head in disagreement.
There was no way the results would just disappear into thin air. Something was wrong.
“Gerald, you have to believe me—”
“Just leave. Use the time to clear your head and ask yourself if this is the right thing to do.” He muttered, making way for me to leave and I let out a sigh, wiping a lone tear that fell.
I walked out of the room and Gerald slammed it shut behind me as I slid to the ground, my back against the door.
How the hell did the results disappear if she didn't take them? Who else could it be if not her? She was back to destroy me and Gerald would let her because he was too obsessed with her to see she wasn't as innocent as she claimed.
Ria always knew how to make me the bad person in every story. Whenever she hurt me, she would also hurt herself, making it look like I was trying to pick on her. My parents grew to hate me because apparently, I was “jealous” of my own sister.
All I ever wanted was to be close to Ria. I always thought that having a sister meant having a best friend. But with Ria, everything was a competition. Until she became the favorite and I grew to hate her. Especially when she had my drink poisoned just to make sure I was out of the picture.
I sighed and got up, making my way to the guest room. I lay in it despite the dust and found myself coughing so hard that I teared up. I had to get up and rush outside to take a deep breath.
The other door opened and Gerald stepped out, a look of worry on his face when he noticed how hard I was coughing.
“You should have cleaned it when I asked you to.” He said and I scoffed, wiping my face gently. “I'm heading to the office. If you mess with Ria—”
“Of course. I won't mess with your beloved. You can be rest assured.” I muttered and he let out a sigh, staring at me for a moment.
He finally walked away and I stood by the door, watching him drive out of the house. I swallowed the lump in my throat and turned to return to the room when I noticed Ria standing in front of me.
I jolted at her figure in front of me and she chuckled, shaking her head in amusement as she circled around me like a predator watching her prey.
“Long time no see, dearest sister.” She cooed, flicking my hair with her fingers, and I closed my eyes to avoid doing something stupid. “Did you miss me? I really missed you. It was boring without you, who would I find to pick on for no reason if not you?”
“I don't have time for your games, Ria,” I muttered, moving to walk past her but she grabbed my arm and held me back with a manic smile on her face.
“But I want you to have time for me!” She whined like a child. “What do you think of my entrance? Was it grand?”
“I don't care, Ria—”
“I faked my accident yesterday and made someone call Gerald to come get me. I was so surprised to see him show up in less than ten minutes. I had no idea he was still so obsessed and in love with me.” She giggled as she spoke, watching me. “I actually thought you would have taken him from me. After all, you're a fool who would do anything for love. But you couldn't make him love you even after three years. What a shame.”
“I don't have the time for this, Ria. Are you happy that he's still in love with you? That's great. I wish you both happiness. Now let me go.” I said, trying to pull my hand out of her grip but she tightened her hand instead.
“I would be happy if you weren't pregnant, bitch.” She spat and my eyes widened. “That's right. I took the results and hid them. How sad, you're actually dying soon and your husband doesn't even believe it. I mean, you've always been an attention seeker.” She continued, giggling in amusement and my eyes watered in despair.
“Why did you come back? What do you intend to gain from doing all this to me? All I've ever done is try to be a good sister to you. I've tried to love you but you just want to get rid of me. Why?” I asked in genuine confusion, my heart sinking at the thought of her trying to mess with me again.
“Because you don't deserve to be happy.” She spat, her expression changing into one of hatred. “You shouldn't even exist. I was going to return to end you as I tried to years ago. But hey, you're dying soon. Isn't that a win-win?”
“Let me go,” I said but she grinned, shaking her head. “Seriously, Ria. Just let me go. I don't care anymore.”
“But I care!” She yelled, pushing me to the ground and I groaned in pain. “I'm going to make every part of your life miserable and no one will believe you.”
Her feet came in contact with my stomach and I let out a cry of pain as I curled into a ball immediately. Ria was insane and she would kill me if I didn't stop her.
She raised her feet again but I immediately stopped it with my hands. That was a big mistake because she immediately stomped her leg on the ground, almost breaking my fingers as I cried out in pain.
“You bitch. Trying to take what belongs to me, huh? I'll make you suffer.” She cackled as she kicked my stomach again. And again until I couldn't protect myself anymore.
My hands felt numb, and my stomach hurt as if I had just been run over by a truck. I raised my head and saw that she had a knife in her hands, causing my heart to sink.
She was going to try to kill me.
With all the strength I had in me, I pushed myself off the ground.
“Don't do this, please—” I froze when I saw her draw the knife over her skin, drawing blood and my eyes widened. “What are you doing?”
“You hate me, don't you? You want me dead, don't you?”
“Stop talking nonsense!” I yelled as I tried to make her stop. “Just put the damn knife down.”
Even with my hurting hand, I managed to grab the knife from her but she was bleeding from the cuts all over her shoulders. She was a psycho.
My vision was blurring so I leaned against the wall, not wanting to pass out. Until I heard a car drive back into the building and I froze.
Suddenly, Ria screamed so loud that I had to close my ears and Gerald came rushing into the house immediately. Ria suddenly collapsed but Gerald was quick to catch her as she went unconscious.
Gerald glanced at her body covered in blood, then at me, then at the knife in my hands.
No.
“What have you done?”
RIA'S POVIt had been two days. Two fucking days, and Gerald hadn't come home!"He couldn't be with that bitch, right?" I bit my nail hard, my feet tapping against the floor repeatedly. My eyes drifted to the vanity mirror, and I saw how dark the circles beneath them had become and how messy the room was. I had been waiting for him ever since the next day to apologize for everything I had said.I had thought I was overthinking things and that Gerald would never return to her. He had always picked me instead of her. Even when she had been bleeding to death, he had chosen me!This time wouldn't be any different, or so I had thought. But to my dismay, he wasn't around. I texted him repeatedly and even called him, but he never answered. I had started thinking something terrible had happened to him..."No... no." I gripped my hair, my eyes darting around the room. "Staying in here won't give me the answer I'm looking for."I shot to my feet, quickly changed into a fresh set of clothes, and
Lara's POV He stared at me. “What is it?” “Um…” I was about to reply when my phone buzzed. “Excuse me.” I quickly left the kitchen and went upstairs. My eyes remained fixed on my phone, my heart racing wildly. I could have answered it in front of him. God. What’s wrong with me? I checked the message and frowned when I saw it was from Gerald, asking if I had gotten home safely. I stared at the message for a few seconds before pressing the power button and switching off my phone. “He still hasn’t gotten the fact that this is none of his concern,” I cursed under my breath before turning around to return to the kitchen. The aroma of dinner greeted me before I even stepped inside, and my stomach immediately reminded me that I had barely eaten all day. Bryan stood with his back to me, casually picking up a plate. His strong forearms glistened faintly with sweat from the heat filling the kitchen. He glanced over his shoulder the moment he heard my footsteps and smiled. “There you a
Lara's POVThe first week nearly broke me.Running one company had always demanded everything I had. Running two at the same time felt like torture but I loved every second of it.By Monday morning, my schedule had become a blur of board meetings, investor calls, strategy sessions, and endless reports waiting for my approval. Every hour brought another decision that only I could make. Every department seemed to need something from me.The merger was moving faster than anyone had expected.People called it impossible only a few weeks ago.Now it was happening.I walked from one conference room to another, answering questions before they were fully asked. Financial projections, staffing plans, marketing campaigns, legal reviews, expansion proposals. One document barely left my desk before another replaced it.Somewhere along the way, I stopped noticing how exhausted I was. Success had a strange way of making fatigue feel worthwhile.By Wednesday, the media had already begun following ev
GERALD'S POVI arrived twenty minutes early.Old habits were difficult to break. The receptionist greeted me with a polite smile the moment I stepped into the lobby."Good morning. May I help you?""I'm Gerald Stone ," I replied. "I'm here to report to Ms. Robert."She typed something into her computer before looking back at me."Of course, Mr. Stone . Someone will be with you shortly."I nodded and stepped aside. The lobby was larger than I remembered. The last time I had been here, I had walked through these doors as an equal. People had greeted me with respect because I had been sitting across the negotiation table from the woman who owned the building.Today, I was reporting to her.The thought settled heavily in my chest.A young woman hurried toward me with a tablet tucked beneath one arm."Mr. Stone ?" she asked politely."Yes.""My name is Emma. I'll show you to your desk."Desk.The word sounded strange.I followed her through the open office. Employees moved quickly between
LARA'S POVI arrived at the company fifteen minutes before the meeting was scheduled to begin. My legal team was already waiting inside the conference room. The moment I walked in, everyone rose to their feet."Good morning, Ms. Robert," one of the attorneys greeted me."Good morning," I replied as I took my seat at the head of the table. I glanced at the stack of folders in front of me before looking back at him. "Is everything ready?""Yes," he answered with a nod. "The final restructuring agreement has been reviewed three times. There shouldn't be any surprises today.""I hope you're right."Another lawyer opened the folder in front of him."The agreement includes the transfer of fifty-one percent voting rights, the new reporting structure, and the executive title changes."I nodded once."Good."A knock sounded on the conference room door. One of my assistants walked over to answer it before stepping aside."Mr. Stone and his legal team are here.""Send them in."Gerald walked int
GERALD'S POVI stared at Ria, stunned by the words that had just left her mouth. For a long moment, I simply looked at her, wondering if I had heard her correctly. The woman standing before me was breathing hard, her chest rising and falling rapidly as she glared at me with eyes filled with a rage I hadn't seen before."If you think this is over, Gerald, then you are absolutely wrong. If you are cheating on me with that stupid bitch, Lara, I will end your life."A headache throbbed behind my eyes.It had already been a long day. I had spent hours trying to keep Stone Holdings from sinking, swallowing every ounce of pride I had left just to walk into Lara's office and ask for help. The last thing I wanted was to come home to another argument.I rubbed my forehead and released a weary sigh. "Are you done?""So that's all you have to say?" she demanded, her voice climbing another octave. "You disappear the entire day, stroll into this house after eleven and expect me to pretend nothing h
Lara's POV “Is it really incurable?” I asked, my heart in my throat as I squeezed the hem of my gown gently and the doctor nodded.“In my whole experience as a doctor, Mrs. Stone, lung cancer has never been cured successfully. It has spread too far to be treated. Other hospitals may have developed
LARA“I didn't do anything, Gerald!” I pleaded, tears burning in my eyes. His eyes burned with hatred as he carried Ria up, her hands hanging limply. “She tried to hurt herself, and I stopped her.”“Stop lying!” he thundered, and I flinched. “Ria has no reason to hurt herself. You're so selfish and
Lara's POV I never got the chance to tell Gerald that I was pregnant. Or that I was dying in six months. I didn't want to believe that he would actually bring Ria to the house, so I didn't clean the room as he told me to.The doctor specifically told me not to stress myself and I wouldn't do that
