Chapter 3

Author: Pigeon Puppet
Miles turned around and was met with Sasha's gaze.

I happened to be looking down at Andy. Someone had given him a diamond necklace, which he was about to stuff into his mouth.

I hurriedly pulled it out of his mouth. "Don't put just anything into your mouth, Andy!"

Miles regained his senses and pried open Andy's mouth. With our joint effort, we finally tossed the diamond necklace onto the banquet table. We then hurriedly took a crying Andy out.

Sasha ran after us and pleaded with Miles, "I'll get scolded by my agent and the agency if I return without making a single sale tonight, Mr. Gallagher. Can you please help me out?"

He turned to me and asked, "Do you like it?"

I wasn't in the mood to think about it as I was busy with Andy. I replied perfunctorily, "The jewelry on her wrist is beautiful. I'll wear it during the summer if you buy it."

I then crouched to cover Andy's mouth to stop him from crying loudly and slipped away to the rooftop.

Miles took the waiter's signing pen and casually left his signature on the event card. He then pointed at Sasha and said, "I'll take everything she's wearing tonight."

He then ran out to find me and Andy.

It was easy to cheer Andy up. He started smiling as soon as he saw the fireworks outside. Patrick and Nancy Wood, Andy's nanny, rushed up but went down again.

Miles pinched Andy's cheeks and grinned. "What a good boy you are!"

I chuckled and replied, "This brat is worried his dad might throw him out."

Miles grumbled, "He has indeed ruined many of our date nights."

Miles and I had a huge fight the day Sasha became a guest of the Gallagher's. There were already hints before this.

It seemed like both of them had suddenly become close after that event. The media went wild, reporting that he had spent 50 million on the jewelry line of a rising star.

The jewelry brand was caught up in gossip. Even those who attended the event spoke about it with such certainty as if it were true.

I confronted Miles sternly, and he raised his hands as he pleaded his innocence. "Weren't you the one who asked me to buy the jewelry she had on her? How dare they try to break my family apart! I'll teach them a lesson!"

At that moment, he was humming affectionately while holding Andy. His behavior resembled a young kid at home.

We were childhood friends who grew up together. How could I not trust him when I have known him for so long?

I defended Miles on Twitter by posting, "Don't feed the rumors." A photo of the three of us taken from behind after the event was also attached. My message was clear. He was a well-behaved family man.

I was mocked on the internet for three whole months. They called me a clueless, lovestruck fool, obliviously happy even when my husband was cheating.

Some said that I was a cold, calculating wife, while others commented that I was detached and rational. Others said that I would keep out of my husband's business if he gave me monthly allowances.

Some even claimed that Miles and I had been doing our own things for years since we were in a marriage of convenience in the first place.

I found it exasperating yet amusing at the same time. However, the fun did not last long.

Sasha showed up at my house, waiting pitifully outside the door and refusing to leave even when it was pouring outside.

When Miles drove back, he asked Lucas Green, the doorman, what happened. Lucas replied, "Ms. Bailey said she's here to apologize, but Mrs. Gallagher wouldn't let her in."

I truly found Sasha annoying. Since it was just a misunderstanding, it would be okay to avoid suspicion in the future.

Why would she come to my house just to explain? It was bound to attract trouble, especially when the reporters were around. They would mock me for enduring the humiliation once again.

I wasn't in the mood to even play with Andy. He had called for me multiple times as he lay in my embrace.

Miles walked in. I was about to grumble to him as soon as the door was opened. I wasn't expecting to hear him say, "Come in."

I stood frozen in place.

A timid voice sounded from the door. "Isn't it inappropriate?"

Miles frowned and replied, "What are you afraid of? It's not like I'll eat you up. My wife and kid are both home. Don't worry."

Sasha muttered, "What did I do wrong? I was just terrified. You don't understand what I'm going through."I stopped trying to reason with her. Instead, I smiled and said, "Miles told me that you were assaulted, so he accompanied you to the hospital to get evidence. He even called the police over. Yet, there was nothing concrete in the end."Sasha turned pale. Her cheeks then flushed as she shouted, "That was just a misunderstanding!"I continued asking, "He also told me that you drugged him the day he slept with you?"Miles only said that he was drunk, but I deliberately said that she had drugged him.To my surprise, Sasha did not refute me. She only muttered, "You were the one who didn't want him in the first place. You gave Mr. Gallagher up first, Ms. Cooper. I only fed on your leftovers. I never inserted myself into your marriage."I crossed my arms and leaned against my car. "Very well. You should keep in mind that I would never take back my leftovers. I don't want to get int

Sasha went on her knees in front of my car, just like how she did years ago.I was terrified of running over her and immediately hit the brakes. Andy was engrossed in his game console, and the abrupt braking caused him to bump his forehead, leaving it red.I hurriedly pulled him over. "I'm sorry! Let me blow the pain away for you."Sasha was bawling on the ground in front of my car. "I'm begging you not to destroy my family, Ms. Cooper. I've already lost a child. I don't want to lose Miles too!"This time, I did not lose control with the endless honking. I put the headphones on Andy, straightened his collar, and gently caressed his cheek. "You can continue with your game. I'll get out of the car and come back quickly, okay?"He reached to remove the headphones. He said determinedly, "I'm going too, Mommy!"I stopped him. "No. Don't. Just listen to me and continue with your game, okay?"I opened the car door, and for a moment, it felt like time and space had overlapped with the p

Sasha had instructed Nancy to tidy up my wardrobe and vanity, and Nancy did as instructed. When Miles returned in the evening, he realized that the layout of the bedroom had changed and got furious. He gave Sasha a harsh slap when she tried to explain, causing her to fall to the ground.Perhaps her body was frail and delicate as she used to be a celebrity, but the slap caused her to miscarry. She bled heavily and was rushed to the hospital. However, the baby couldn't be saved. The doctor hinted to Miles that they could only save either Sasha or the baby. It was a choice that wouldn't typically even be considered in a regular hospital. But the Gallaghers weren't just anyone.Everyone knew that Miles had divorced and lost custody of his son. If he wanted the baby, the hospital had ways of saving it—even at the cost of Sasha's life.Miles said, "Save Sasha."Sasha thought that he saved her as they could always have more children in the future. She never imagined that he only married

Sasha rushed out and blocked my car. She fell to her knees and pleaded, "Don't be mad, Ms. Cooper. It's all my fault! I was the one who told Mr. Gallagher that I wanted to visit Andy. I was the one who caused the rift between the two of you!"I slammed on the horn. "Get out of my way!"Sasha remained unmoving.I started the car engine and threatened her, "Are you leaving or not? I'll run you over if not!"Sasha looked up gracefully and softly said, "Feel free to run me over if my death would calm you down, Ms. Cooper!"Furious, I slammed my fist against the steering wheel. The sharp honk echoed throughout the Gallagher residence. My heart ached with pain.Miles walked over to Sasha, picked her up, and returned to the Gallagher residence. He said, "You're getting increasingly out of control, Yvette. You're completely unreasonable and downright absurd."Fine. Let's get a divorce if that's what you want, but leave Andy with me. I'll find him an emotionally stable mother and not som

Miles let out a relieved sigh and looked at me gratefully. He wrapped his arms around me before burying his face on my shoulder. "You're the best, darling! I knew you were understanding."I said indifferently, "But I've had enough of living like this."Miles started panicking. "Darling—"I continued, "I'm giving you an ultimatum. Either you send Sasha away and cut all contact with her—no more misunderstandings or involvement—and we try to get back to how things were before. Or, you keep playing the good guy and continue looking after Sasha, and we get a divorce."Miles pushed me onto the couch angrily. "You're getting a divorce with me just because of this trivial matter? How dare you even suggest getting a divorce, Yvette! Who do you think I am? Try divorcing me if you dare!""Try getting tangled up with Sasha again," I said, chuckling coldly as I pushed his face away. "And you'll find out if I dare to divorce you or otherwise."Miles pulled at his hair irritably. "Why are you i

Celebrities were products of entertainment agencies. It was all the more inevitable for a rising star like Sasha to attend business events and social gatherings. She found all these humiliating and would instinctively hide behind Miles whenever he was around during such events. Although he was surprised, he figured that there was no harm in backing her up.As Miles did not reject nor scold her, it gradually caused those in the industry to fear her. They assumed that he was the bigwig behind her.Sasha enjoyed the perks and frequently went over to the Gallagher residence to thank us. She was getting on my nerves.I told her outright, "If you genuinely appreciate my husband for helping you out, you should stop coming over to my house."Sasha replied, "There really is nothing between Mr. Gallagher and me, Ms. Cooper. I'm just worried that you might have misunderstood him, which may affect your marriage. He was just being nice. He just can't stand seeing me getting caught up in the co
