The playground of Little Einsteins Academy was usually a place of joyous screaming. Today, it was the screaming of sirens.

Two black armored trucks screeched onto the curb, flanking Lucian’s Maybach. Men in heavy tactical gear spilled out, pushing terrified parents aside to form a perimeter.

"Secure the exits!" Lucian roared, tearing off his suit jacket as he sprinted toward the gym doors. "Nobody leaves until every bag is checked!"

Inside, the Tech Fair had dissolved into confusion. The Headmaster was trying to calm weeping parents when the doors burst open. Lucian scanned the room with the eyes of a madman until he spotted the mop of dark curls.

"Leo! Mia!"

He didn't walk; he vaulted over a display table of papier-mâché volcanoes. He scooped both children up, crushing them against his chest so hard that Mia let out a squeak of protest.

"Did he touch you?" Lucian demanded, pulling back to check their arms, their faces. "Did he give you anything else? Where is it?"

"Mr. Thorne!" The H

The clock on the wall read 2:00 AM. In the master suite, Lucian and Elara were finally asleep, their hands still linked in a silent pact of protection. But in the bedroom down the hall, Leo Vance was wide awake. He sat cross-legged on his bed, the black obsidian cube glowing with an eerie, sapphire light. Leo had spent three hours analyzing the surface. He’d discovered that the "logic lock" wasn't about math—it was about vibration. By humming specific frequencies, the internal magnets shifted.Click.The cube didn't open like a box. Instead, its surface retracted into itself, revealing a complex, glowing interface of liquid mercury and light."Whoa," Leo whispered.Suddenly, his room’s smart-light turned on. Then it turned red.Across the room, his robotic arm—the one he’d built for the science fair—began to twitch. It didn't sort Skittles. It slowly rotated its mechanical claw to point directly at Leo.“Access Granted,” a voice whispered. It wasn't the man from the school. it was a s

The atmosphere in the Thorne Penthouse was brittle enough to snap. For three days, Elara had felt like she was living in a high-end prison. There were two new guards stationed at the elevator, and the nanny, Mrs. Higgins, had been replaced by a stern woman named "Greta" who looked like she could disassemble a glock in five seconds flat."Lucian, this is ridiculous," Elara argued, pouring coffee in the kitchen. "You’re treating us like we’re in witness protection. I can’t even take Mia to the park without a security detail that looks like a SWAT team."Lucian stood by the window, peering through the blinds. He hadn't slept more than two hours a night. "The park isn't safe, Elara. Not right now.""Why?" she demanded, slamming her mug down. "Because of 'corporate raiders'? Lucian, stop lying to me. Who is Obsidian Holdings? Why are you terrified?"Lucian turned to her. His eyes were shadowed, pleading. "Just trust me. Please. A few more days, and I’ll have it handled."He couldn't tell h

Elara Vance adjusted her blazer in the mirror of the ScentTech lobby, smoothing out invisible wrinkles. Today was monumental. After the scandal with Serena, the public was hungry for Elara’s comeback. The launch of her new fragrance, Renaissance, was projected to break sales records."You look fierce," Lucian said, leaning against the doorframe of her office. He was wearing his usual armor—a bespoke three-piece suit—but his eyes were tired. He had driven her to work himself, insisting his driver was "sick," though Elara suspected he just didn't want to let her out of his sight."I feel fierce," Elara smiled, grabbing her tablet. "The manufacturing plant in Grasse just sent the final batch. We go live at noon."Lucian forced a smile. "I'll be right here. Watching the numbers go up."But the moment Elara walked into the conference room, the atmosphere shifted. Her team looked pale. Her COO, a sharp woman named Sarah, was gripping her phone like a lifeline."Elara," Sarah whispered. "We

Lucian leaned against the cold concrete pillar of the parking garage, his breath coming in short, ragged gasps. The phone in his hand felt radioactive.Silas.The name alone brought back memories Lucian had spent two decades burying under money and success. The cane striking his knuckles when he missed a piano note. The cold, windowless room where he was locked when he "showed weakness." The day the car crash report came in, and a twenty-year-old Lucian had felt the first breath of freedom he’d ever known."Marcus," Lucian barked into the phone, his voice shaking with a rage that masked his terror. "Code Black. Now.""Sir?" Marcus’s voice was confused. "We just cleared the threat. Serena is—""I’m not talking about Serena!" Lucian roared. "I want the penthouse locked down. I want a sweeping team in the lobby. I want biometric scanners on the elevators changed today. And I want you to find out who authorized a reinstate of the 'Alpha-One' security clearance."There was a pause on the o

The morning sun filtered through the sheer curtains of the master bedroom, painting stripes of gold across the duvet. For the first time in five years, Lucian Thorne didn't wake up reaching for a phone, a tablet, or a bottle of aspirin. He woke up reaching for her.Elara was asleep against his chest, her breathing a soft, rhythmic lullaby that settled the chaos in his soul. Lucian lay perfectly still, terrified that if he moved, he would wake up back in his cold, empty mansion. He traced the line of her spine with a reverence he had never possessed before."Stop thinking so loud," Elara mumbled into his skin, her voice thick with sleep. "I can hear your brain calculating risk assessments."Lucian chuckled, a low rumble in his chest. He kissed the top of her head. "I wasn't calculating risks. I was calculating how much it would cost to buy the building across the street so I can stare at you from my office."Elara lifted her head, her blue eyes bright with amusement. "You’re obsessed,
