Chapter 3

Author: Jack Jade
Alessandro held Serafina in his arms, yet his gaze kept drifting toward the corridor. By the time his assistant arrived, Serafina had already fainted from the pain.

"If you'd been a few minutes later, the baby's heartbeat would've stopped."

The doctor chided Alessandro as she adjusted the IV, and he nodded without really listening, his eyes still drifting toward the hallway.

Serafina knew exactly who and what he was waiting for. The realization irritated her so deeply that she closed her eyes and pretended she hadn't woken up.

Only then did he seem to notice the crease between her brows.

She hadn't smiled since the wedding, and he found himself thinking that once she woke, he'd take her somewhere to relax.

As he reached out to smooth her forehead, a faint scent of white magnolia drifted in.

Matilde stood at the door.

Alessandro lifted a finger, signaling her to keep quiet.

She lowered her voice, though the disappointment in her tone was obvious. "So the baby's fine?"

He glanced past her. "Where's Niccolo?"

"He went to the office. Are you worried about her?"

"Not here."

"Why not? I'll say whatever I want, whenever I want! Why does she get to bear your child first?"

Matilde threw herself into his arms, kissing him without restraint.

Her fur coat slid from her shoulders, exposing the lace camisole underneath. The sound of their kisses filled the room.

Just as her hand moved toward his belt, Alessandro groped her butt. "Enough. Go back. Wait for me tonight."

She rose onto her toes as if she meant to continue, but he picked up the coat, wrapped it around her again, and pressed a brief kiss to her forehead.

"Don't overthink it. You know I only love you."

After sending Matilde away, Alessandro leaned against the wall in the corridor and lit a cigarette.

Inside the room, Serafina slowly opened her eyes, and a tear slid down the side of her face.

She'd never pretended to be gentle. When they first started seeing each other, she'd said, "Even if I'm not gentle, even if there are things I have to do and can't be completely honest about, would you still accept me?"

Back then, Alessandro had tenderly reassured her, "That's what makes you cool."

Now, she realized perhaps he hadn't meant it at all.

Once, Serafina had thought he was like the sun, warming her and lighting the way through her confusion.

Alas, the sun had never belonged to her.

She wiped away her tears and quickly texted her private investigator. "The gate code is 9749. Install the pinhole cameras now. The sooner the better."

Serafina gripped her phone, lost in thought, not knowing how to begin sorting the storm of emotions inside her.

Just then, the door opened again.

"Serafina."

Alessandro strode toward her, moving as if he meant to pull her into his arms. "How are you feeling—"

"Don't come any closer!" Serafina shouted.

Every nerve in her body recoiled from his touch.

A flicker of hurt, layered with unmistakable worry and fear, crossed Alessandro's eyes. "What's wrong, Serafina?"

Alba happened to walk in with some food and froze when she saw this. She said worriedly, "Ms. Greco used to have a physical aversion to men. It looks like it's happening again."

Alessandro tamped down the irritation rising in him and deliberately stepped back. "Don't be afraid. I'll stay right here," he said gently.

Serafina looked at the tenderness on his face, and her mind drifted back to the first time they met four years ago.

When news of the alliance between the Greco and Madonia families first broke, the entire city turned it into a wager. The notorious Madonia heir and the untouchable Serafina—who would call it off first?

No one expected Alessandro to trade in his silver hair for a sleek black side part and repeatedly send word through his secretary that he had something important to give her.

He'd sought her out 99 times. On the 100th, she finally allowed him to stand within 15 feet of her.

She only needed one glance to see what he was holding.

It was her diary, the one she'd lost years ago, the one that carried her happiest memories with Cosima, and the one she'd searched for a decade.

He brought her back to every scene written in those pages, carefully recreating the moments, and little by little, the ice around her heart began to melt.

The final entry led them to Nadoria.

Under fireworks that lit up the sky, Alessandro dropped to one knee, gentle and devout like a believer at prayer.

Her heart had opened like those fireworks, and then came the wedding that everyone talked about.

Now, looking at his concerned expression, she felt as if she were looking at a stranger.

Still, this wasn't the time to unravel it.

She'd prepared for this day for five full years. She remembered Cosima's wish to revive Gambino Group as well as her warning that Serafina shouldn't rely on anyone but herself.

At this, she called her secretary. "Notify everyone that the press conference this afternoon will proceed as scheduled."

The second stop was Swedale. The moment Alessandro stepped off the plane, he went straight to the entrance of Serafina's product presentation. But this time, instead of rushing in, he lit a cigar and stayed inside the car.It wasn't until the presentation ended and Serafina and Asher got back into their car that he followed her—slowly, almost as if he were punishing himself.Just as he expected, they went straight to the tree near Stockven Palace, dug up the letters and the limited-edition gemstone he had once placed there, and burned and discarded them.…By the final stop—Nadoria, where Alessandro had proposed to Serafina—he clearly remembered where she had buried her keepsakes. This time, he arrived first. He dug it up before she could, opened the letter, and read it. The last line seared into his eyes. "We have a long future ahead. I wish to travel the world with Alessandro all over again every five years."So what she had personally burned at every previous stop was their

Alessandro felt as though his heart were being sliced repeatedly, and his face contorted with pain. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. I wish I had been the one to go through all of that! Serafina, I'm begging you, just give me another chance, please? I can't lose you!"Tears shimmered in his eyes. "All these years, you're the only one I've ever truly loved! I'll do anything if you'll take me back!"Serafina pulled up a video on her phone and regarded him coldly. "The only one you've ever truly loved? Is that why you were rolling around in bed with another woman?"In the footage, Matilde's body was covered in red marks, her moans filling the air as Alessandro thrust into her again and again with brutal force.Alessandro's eyes widened as shock filled his face. "How is that possible? This video was fabricated!"Serafina let out a scornful laugh. "Fabricated? And the fabricated video knew to replicate that red birthmark between your legs?"Alessandro looked closely, and sure enough, there w

Serafina finally turned to look at Alessandro. The light in her eyes slowly faded, replaced by an endless, glacial coldness. "And what does that have to do with you?" she retorted.Alessandro's heart, which had been so full of hope just moments ago, sank bit by bit. He lowered his head, his voice so quiet even he could barely hear it. "Serafina… I've missed you so much.""What did you say?"Alessandro took a deep breath, pulling himself together until he was once again the composed, commanding Don. "Serafina, I want to talk to you.""I have nothing to talk to you about."Seeing the standoff, Stefano drew his gun and pointed it at Asher, signaling for him to leave."How dare you!" Serafina immediately stepped in front of Asher to shield him.But Asher gently took her hand and drew her behind him, then gestured toward the second floor. In an instant, an entire row of snipers and special forces operatives appeared on the second-floor balcony, aiming the latest-model tactical ri

Serafina was hesitant at first, because she still didn't want to work closely with men."You're concerned over Asher? That robot? Every other man on earth might catch feelings, but not him. His heart belongs to research and nothing else!" Luciana assured her.A dull ache stirred in Serafina's heart as she thought of the string of despicable men she'd encountered. Yet somehow, the moment she let go of Alessandro, it felt like she was watching herself wave goodbye to the timid little girl she used to be.Avoidance, after all, was just fear in another form. And she refused to keep punishing herself for other people's wrongs. So, Serafina threw herself wholeheartedly into product development and had a peaceful, happy year.In that same year, Alessandro was preoccupied with dealing with the Denaro family, but he never stopped searching for her.As Luciana burst through the door, she announced, "Alessandro is still combing the globe for you. Yesterday, the international tracking system

Snakes and a mass of slimy slugs came pouring out of the tank. Just before the door slammed shut, Matilde summoned every last bit of her strength and roared, "Yes, I hate her! Why does Serafina get to have everything while I'm thrown around like garbage?"Exhausted, Alessandro returned to his study. The images of Serafina being harassed in the video burned into his mind.He ordered his men to deal with the two men in the video before clicking on his encrypted folder. It contained Serafina's private photos, which were meant to be his last resort to blackmail her into showing up. But after seeing the news today, he abandoned the idea.If the photos ever got out, the damage to her reputation would be devastating. Besides, her beauty was only ever meant to be for his eyes. But when he entered the password, he found the folder completely empty. Not only were the photos gone, but all the dirt he had spent years collecting on various major families had also vanished without a trace.Al

  • Too Nasty to Love: Goodbye Forever   Chapter 13

When Alessandro woke the next morning, his head was still groggy. However, the study was spotless, and it confused him so much that he couldn't help but wonder whether everything from last night had only been a dream. He tightened his grip on the diary, and something inside him stirred. Before he met Serafina, he had been nothing more than a pawn in his own family's game. His parents' endless expectations and Vittorio's harsh demands had been his entire world. It was Serafina's diary that showed him there could be another kind of life. The first time he took her to recreate what she had written, they went to Lake Baxter, and they followed the diary step by step until they built a small wooden cabin together. In those moments, he felt true happiness, and for once, he felt like a living person. After that, it was almost instinct. Alessandro memorized Serafina's likes and dislikes until he knew them by heart, sometimes even better than she did. When Serafina finally accepted him,
