Alyssa’s POV

I’d been in the dungeon for two hours, thirty-six minutes, twenty seconds, twenty-one seconds, twenty-two seconds. Counting seemed to be the only thing that kept me sane at that moment. If I stopped counting, I would be forced to think about everything that went wrong. Everything I could’ve done differently, so maybe things didn’t have to end up this way. But it didn’t, so I could only count. Thirty-seven minutes.

It was dark in the cell, and cold. Colder than the Red Maple Camp had ever been, and that was saying something. The pain in my body had faded to a dull throb thanks to Carys working hard against the silver draining her, but it still ached to move my arm and to shift my shoulder where it scraped the stone, and there was only so much she could heal me.

It took two hours, forty-three minutes and twenty-two seconds before I heard footsteps echoing darkly through the corridor that made me flinch.

I thought it was my old guard coming back to torment me whilst no one

Kai's POVWhilst the plan was in motion, I took the opportunity to speak to some of the minor Alphas I considered allies. When I wasn’t doing that, I was keeping an eye on the Luna Queen, who seemed to be watching me intently, too. My outfit choice seemed to have shaken her up, though she kept her composure calm. My stunt had proved to the rest of the packs that the Royal Family had a crack in it and that choosing the heir to the Alpha King’s throne was going to be a choice that had bigger consequences than they’d originally thought. Alpha Andreas was telling me all about his plans to help guard from any rebels that remained in the south, and I was more than appreciative for his help.Whilst we were talking, Alpha Evan came up from behind me, “Prince Kai, could I speak to you for a moment?”With a quick nod and a brief goodbye to my ally, I followed Alpha Evan to a corner of the room, looking as disinterested as I could so that the Luna Queen didn’t suspect anything. It wasn’t hard.

Alyssa's POVI should’ve been watching my back. I’d gotten comfortable knowing that I had people around me to support me, that I didn’t even consider that someone else would’ve been watching me at this point.Evan left quickly to change and clean up, and I hurried back to the kitchens in case anybody wondered where I’d gone. My heart was still racing after Freya’s confession.Alyssa, Carys whispered to me, pain laced in her soul, Father. We need to warn father.I know, Carys. I thought back to her, but we can’t do anything right now.Carys wasn’t happy about it, but she knew that I was right and there was nothing we could do if I got disciplined for not doing my job properly. Kai had told me that after the party, I wouldn't have to be a servant anymore. As soon as I was told I was free to go, I would race back to my father like my life depended on it.With a deep breath and a smile on my face, I picked up a tray of desserts and made my way back to the party. It was difficult to balanc

Vivian's POVSomething was wrong. Something, somewhere along the way, had gone terribly wrong, and I knew that there could only be one person responsible for it. The person who had been a constant thorn in my side since I'd laid eyes on her.Freya hadn’t mentioned her bastard of a father since she was young, and had always been content that he was gone, and everything that I did was for the two of us. But now it seemed someone had started to put ideas into Freya’s head.I felt my frown tighten as I held my daughter in my arms, wheels turning in my head as I began piecing things together.Alyssa.Even the thought of that girl had my jaw grinding and my blood boiling. My life would’ve been so much easier if she’d never been born. Even my attempt to throw her in prison and poison her there was foiled! Why couldn’t she just stay away? Freya and I had worked hard to spread the rumour so that even when she returned for her 'mating' ceremony, she would have no friends or allies outside of th

Alexander’s POVSince I had to return to the party, I tried not to let any emotion show on my face. No worry, no concern, no panic. I was my usual, happy self as I spoke to one Alpha here and another Luna there. No one would be able to tell that I was dying on the inside, wondering what would happen if something went wrong.Even my father left his throne and spoke to me, calling me a ‘fine young man’ for doing my duty as a prince. As he said that, he lifted his head, his eyes scanning around the ballroom.I knew that he was looking for Kai, but my brother had disappeared. If I didn’t know better, I would’ve thought he was either with a woman or killing puppies since my opinion of my brother wasn’t very high, but I knew he would be making himself useful, for Alyssa’s sake. Part of the plan was to not let Vivian find her daughter for at least an hour, which was difficult because as soon as Vivian noticed that Freya wasn’t with her friends or me, she began to worry.“Oh, I do hope my po

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 79

Alyssa’s POVThere was a deathly quiet, only broken by the whispering whimpers of Freya’s breath, quick and calm, as if she breathed too loudly, the ghost would make her pay. She sat, quivering like a child as she stared at her father.“Why?” Evan repeated, a tad harsher than before, but it had an impact all the same.Freya squealed and pulled the blanket over her head, muttering and pleading that she wanted the ghost to go away, still trying to convince herself that it was all a dream.“What did I do to you that would warrant death, Freya?” Evan’s voice was sad, like he was remembering how much his brother cared for Freya. I remembered Alpha Aaron’s last few diary entries: The acknowledgement that his wife was unfaithful to him, that he would never get to see his daughter married, and that he only wanted to see her happy. I couldn’t help but wonder if he’d be disappointed in the way she turned out.Despite everything, part of me felt the slightest bit of sympathy for Freya. It wasn’
