Chapter 5
"What are you doing here?" I said, staring at him in shock. "I remember you. And what do you mean by what am I doing here? This is my home," Adrian replied, standing there shirtless, just as surprised as I was. I couldn't help but stare at his half-naked body, my face heating up. His chest was broad and muscular, his six-pack perfectly sculpted, veins running down his arms from his workout. My brain screamed for my eyes and legs to move, but they refused. I finally gathered enough courage and turned away, burning with shame. Beside me, Sisi’s mouth hung open, her eyes filled with obvious lust as she practically devoured Adrian with her gaze. "What are you doing? Look away!" I whispered urgently. "Huh? What? I mean... okay," she said, though she barely shifted her head. I felt humiliated. Now the Clastus would think I had brought a shameless friend to disgrace us. But honestly, who could blame Sisi? Adrian was... breathtaking. "Excuse me," Adrian said simply, walking upstairs. "It’s okay, Camila. It was just a misunderstanding," Mrs. Miranda said warmly, smiling at me. I nodded silently, while Sisi kept watching Adrian’s retreating figure like she was under a spell. "Looks like you were prepared for our arrival," Grandpa said, laughing as he gestured toward the long dining table, which was filled with foods I'd only seen celebrities eat on TV. "Please, let’s eat," Mr. Clastu said, motioning to the seats. Adrian eventually returned, now wearing a tight black shirt that somehow made him even harder to look away from. "Are you sure you don’t want to marry him, Camila?" Sisi whispered to me as we ate. "He’s gorgeous. And rich." "Stop it, Sisi," I whispered back, embarrassed. "You know," Mrs. Miranda said suddenly, smiling mischievously, "I’d love to get to know you better, Sisi." She gave a secret wink to Grandpa and Mr. Clastu, signaling them to leave me and Adrian alone. Sisi beamed and accepted eagerly, clearly thrilled to be liked. I tried to intervene, but Adrian didn’t seem bothered at all. I snuck a glance at him as he ate. "Do you want something?" he asked, finally turning his gaze to me. "Oh, um... well, boss, I—" "First of all, don’t call me boss when we’re not at work," he said sharply, though not unkindly. "Okay... sir," I murmured, staring at my lap, feeling small. Suddenly his expression softened. "You really didn’t recognize me until now, huh?" he asked, his voice gentle. "Well, when I looked into your eyes, I felt like I knew you," I admitted, carefully choosing my words. "But... you were my busy boss. I didn’t think you'd notice a hardworking staff member like me, let alone remember me." He smiled faintly. "You haven't changed at all," he said quietly, standing and reaching for my hand. "Come with me, Camila." His hand was firm and rough, but somehow so warm. Without thinking, I clung tighter as he led me to a room. "Not even my brother has entered my room before," he said, letting go of my hand. "Look around." I walked slowly, taking everything in, until I spotted a small picture frame on his bedside table. I picked it up, and a wave of memories rushed over me: two children smiling, laughing together... And then the memory of my parents’ funeral hit me like a tidal wave. "The one day I needed you most, you left, Adrian," I whispered, tears falling freely. "I cried twice that day. I called and called, hoping even if my parents were gone, you’d still come. You promised you'd be there." I clutched the photo tightly. Adrian moved closer, pinning me gently against the wall, his face mere inches from mine. "I never left by choice, Camila," he said, his voice raw. "I tried to come back. I even snuck onto a plane, but my grandfather bought the whole airport just to drag me back. I tried, Camila. I tried everything." His forehead rested lightly against mine. "I've kept an eye on you all these years. That's why I hired you—so you could keep moving forward without me dragging you back to old memories." I could hardly breathe. The boss I had worked for silently for months... was him. Just as we were about to close the small space between us, Mrs. Miranda’s voice called out: "Adrian, Camila! Come downstairs. Your brother is here!" I quickly wiped my tears, muttered an apology, and rushed out of the room, leaving Adrian behind.Chapter 37After Mirabel’s heartfelt confession about always being misunderstood, I softened. I apologized for getting the wrong idea about her.It turned out our meeting wasn’t about work at all. She had already emailed me a PDF with everything I needed to know. The dinner was purely personal. And I was glad.We talked for hours—laughing, eating, and drinking. Speaking with her felt almost like talking to Sisi. We shared so much in common. She also had a grandfather she adored and would do anything for, and she was a workaholic just like me. For the first time, I felt like we were becoming real friends.I honestly believed we’d end up as best friends.Until she shattered something deep inside me.“So, Camila,” she said casually, taking a sip of her drink, “why did you push me that day anyway? And… what exactly is your relationship with Adrian?”The question caught me off guard.“Oh, that?” I laughed awkwardly. “Well… don’t tell anyone this, but I’m getting married to his brother. So,
Chapter 36Her words were twisted. Sick. I stared at her like I was looking at something disgusting and deranged. The more I processed what she’d just said—about destroying Roderick and Adrian’s relationships—the more disturbed I became.“Wait, hold on—are you seriously telling me that you and your sister purposely sabotaged Roderick and Adrian’s relationships… just to get them for yourselves?” I shouted, unable to hold back anymore.“Are you that stupid? Do you even realize how sick you sound right now?” My voice shook with fury. “They don’t belong to you! And if you’re here to threaten me, then you’ve picked the wrong girl, bitch. Because I won’t let either of you get your filthy hands on Roderick or Adrian.”I was burning inside—furious that they thought they could own them like toys. Same boys who struggled to even trust, let alone love anyone. I clenched my fists. If it was a war they wanted, then I knew one thing for sure: I wasn’t going to lose.Jessica didn’t flinch.“I’ll do
Chapter 35"What are you talking about?" Roderick asked, his gaze fixed on Sisi, who slowly stepped toward him."Roderick... I’m so sorry I didn’t tell you sooner," she said, tears welling in her eyes. "I lost contact with you. I tried—day and night—for over a year, but I couldn’t find you."She stood in front of him and gently leaned into his chest, her hands gripping his shirt tightly, as if she was holding on for dear life."Sisi," Roderick whispered, clearly confused by her sudden emotional outburst."Roderick... we have a baby," she said. The room fell completely silent. Roderick stood frozen, the words echoing in his mind. His eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at her."A baby boy. Our baby boy," she continued, a broken smile playing on her trembling lips."What?" Roderick muttered under his breath, like he hadn't fully registered what she just said."What do you mean we... Wait, are you saying you're pregnant?" he asked, stepping back slightly, his hands gripping her should
Chapter 34 Sisi’s heels clicked against the marble floor as she walked toward the private room Camila had arranged. Her heart pounded so violently in her chest, she thought it might break through her ribs.Five years.Five years since she had looked into Roderick’s eyes. Five years since she disappeared from his life without explanation—without closure. And now, here she was.Standing in front of the door. She lifted her hand to knock, but stopped. She could hear her own breath. It was shaky. What if he hates me?She shut her eyes, gathered her breath, and knocked twice.“Come in.”That voice. That voice that once used to be her peace—her weakness. She opened the door. There he was.Roderick stood by the window, sunlight bathing one side of his face. He turned slowly. His expression went from calm curiosity… to frozen disbelief.“Sisi.”She couldn’t speak. Not yet. Her throat tightened. Her fingers trembled. She hadn’t expected him to look… so much the same. Maybe more handsome. Stro
Chapter 33 I stood still in the room, my heart heavy, then exhaled deeply before walking out to find Sisi. Every step toward her felt… strange. A twisting sensation gripped my stomach, as if my body already knew something my mind couldn’t yet explain.“Please excuse me, I need to speak with her,” I said softly to the group of designers Sisi was leading. She looked so natural—confident, radiant, professional. I had never seen her this focused, this… admired. She glanced at me and smiled. “Oh, Camila. Please excuse me,” she said to the group, signaling them politely before walking over to me.I pulled her to a quieter corner.“What is it, Camila? Need help with something?” she asked, her smile warm and sincere.I tried to smile too, but my face betrayed me.“Well… no. Actually, I just spoke to Roderick and—”“Wait. Hold on. You just spoke to Roderick?” she interrupted, eyes wide. She looked around quickly, as if expecting to see him nearby, then pulled me deeper into the shadows, out o
Chapter 32 Throughout the day, Sisi and I barely spoke. She stayed away from her phone, lost in thought. I could tell it had everything to do with her conversation with Liam. Every time our eyes met, she tried to act natural—like everything was fine—but I saw through her.She was pretending.“Tomorrow is the day we decorate for the party… and also the day I meet Adrian’s wife,” I whispered to myself as I sat on my bed. What started out as a bright, beautiful day had dimmed into something cold, clouded with secrets and half-truths. I couldn’t stop thinking about Liam. The more I remembered our encounter, the more disturbed I felt. He wasn’t just dangerous—he was calculating. Manipulative. He called Sisi seductive beauty. Said the boss missed her. Could it be the same boss trying to destroy Grandpa? What kind of past does Sisi really have? The next morning, I woke up earlier than usual. I prepared breakfast, then got myself ready after dinner. Sisi and Grandpa also prepared, and we all
