Chapter 2

At exactly one in the morning, the bedroom door opened.

I stood beside the bed like a corpse, my entire body stiff with fear.

I didn’t even dare look directly at the figure standing in the doorway.

But her long, slender shadow told me one thing.

This female CEO had an incredible figure.

At the very least, she was the kind of woman who could make people look twice.

She stepped inside slowly without saying a word.

Only then did I dare glance at her from the corner of my eye.

The moment I saw her face, I froze.

She was stunning.

An angelic face. A devilish body.

But what shocked me even more was that this female CEO was one of my girlfriends.

Serena Sanders.

The second I realized it was Serena, the fear gripping my chest loosened. My whole body relaxed at once, and I rushed forward to hug her.

“Babe, why are you here too? I thought I’d never see you again. I can’t believe you got pulled into this game too. What’s your role?”

I was so relieved I almost cried.

Serena looked at me with a faint smile, but her eyes were much colder than usual.

She gently pushed me away and smiled.

“Baby, what role do you think I have?”

I froze.

The excitement drained away little by little, and my brain finally started working again.

When the game first started, I hadn’t seen Serena among the players.

It was now one in the morning.

The only person who could walk into this room unharmed at this hour was the female CEO.

Wait.

The Ms. Sanders the secretary mentioned…

Was that Serena?

The thought sent a chill through me.

I shoved her away as if I had seen a ghost.

I was scared.

Terrified.

But Serena looked at me with the excited smile of a predator who had just found her prey.

“Smart baby. You guessed right. Did you prepare my foot soak?”

She smiled at me.

I nodded stiffly. I knew there was no way I was getting out of this.

“It’s ready. But… are you really Serena Sanders?”

“Of course.”

Hearing her admit it herself made my stomach sink.

She really was the big boss.

“Wait,” I said nervously. “Can we talk about this game first?”

Serena said, “The more rounds a player survives, the more power they gain. The ones who survive the most eventually become dungeon bosses.”

My heart suddenly ached for her.

Some of my fear faded.

I hadn’t expected Serena to have entered this game before me.

And not just once.

She had been here many times.

I slowly moved closer to her.

“You should’ve told me something like this happened.”

Serena pulled me into her arms like she always did.

“I didn’t expect you to get dragged into this game too. But since you’re here, I’ll protect you.”

She leaned close to my ear and whispered in an impossibly gentle voice.

“But let’s not talk about that right now. Since you’re my husband, shouldn’t you take care of me first?”

I had no choice but to accept my role and fulfill my duties as her husband.

Foot soak.

Massage.

Even helping her bathe.

She kept me busy the entire night.

The next morning, I woke up with my whole body aching.

When I dragged myself into the living room, a female player assigned as the maid was setting breakfast on the table.

The moment she saw me, her eyes widened.

She clearly hadn’t expected me to spend the night alone with a big boss and still come out alive.

“Ms. Sanders didn’t do anything to you last night?”

I shook my head.

“Not really. I just helped her soak her feet, gave her a massage, and then we went to sleep. Nothing else happened.”

The maid let out a long sigh.

“You’re lucky. Surviving the night is already a blessing. Five people died here last night.”

I looked calm on the surface, but inside, I was shaken.

It seemed the rules of this world really had to be followed.

Since Serena owned this villa, I started getting a little bolder and wandered around the house.

There was a private pool, along with plenty of entertainment rooms and leisure areas.

Then the system’s cold mechanical voice rang out again.

“Attention, players. Ms. Sanders’s husband is feeling bored. The maid and butler are instructed to accompany him to the Ruined Amusement Park.”

The maid and butler appeared in front of me at once.

The NPC secretary drove up and stopped right in front of us.

“Sir, please get in.”

He gestured toward the car.

So they were forcibly switching my map now?

Here in the villa district, Serena had my back.

But once I left, who knew what would happen?

“I’m not bored,” I said quickly. “And I don’t want to go to any amusement park. I think this place is great.”

Even after I said that, the secretary held the same smile and the same polite gesture, like a robot.

Only his eyes grew a little colder.

I knew then that there was no room for negotiation.

I had no choice but to bite the bullet and get in the car.

The maid and butler climbed into the back seat, their faces deathly pale.

Not long after we left the villa district, we arrived at an amusement park.

The place was completely empty.

Every ride was covered in rust, and nothing about it looked safe enough for a normal visitor.

“I once watched a horror movie where they strapped people into a roller coaster without seat belts,” the maid whispered behind me.

“Then we’re dead,” the butler muttered. “I just hope my brain doesn’t fly out.”

Only after arriving here did we realize how safe the villa district had been.

A male NPC in uniform walked toward us.

“Mr. Parker, the boss has been waiting for you. Please follow me.”

The maid and butler looked at me with pity.

I was speechless.

Why was this another solo mission?

Couldn’t this game at least give me a teammate?
