MasukJake Ryan had been best friends with Jay Morgan since they were in middle school. Jake had always valued being an only sibling, especially when Jay’s younger sister, Rachel, was always in the picture. Her personality always rubbed Jake the wrong way, and the fact that she always had to butt into her big brother’s business annoyed him more than he could say. Rachel, on the other hand, had way too much fun bothering Jake, he let it be known that she always rubbed him wrong, and she took great joy in making sure to always let it happen. Even after their drunk, and oh stupid night, she still teased him. But when the Jake came to be her personal one man rescue mission to help her out of a blizzard, she wanted no part of it. And a few minutes too long of arguing and annoying each other meant that they were stuck in her family cabin until help came, if they came. What could happen with two people, who clearly hated each other, were forced to spend the unknown amount of hours together? Could they get over the bickering along enough to figure out how to get help? Could they actually pull together and work through their problems? Better yet, could they finally stop denying the attraction they’ve both buried since high school?

The asshole did not have the right to do that to her when she just came to the conclusion that she needed to keep her distance from him. She finally looked away after a few moments and shook her head. “What?” he asked, frowning. She stared at the flames for another moment before glancing back at him. “You can’t say that, Jake.” “Why, Rachel? You asked and I told myself I wasn’t going to lie in this game.” She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. “Did you think that wouldn’t have been the answer?” She thought about that question and wanted to scream. She knew that if he had said anything else, she would have been hurting. However, knowing he felt that was amazing, she just didn’t know how to take it or what to make of it, not given that she had told herself to walk away. “I don’t know what I thought, Jake.” She finally tore her eyes away from the g
Jake’s eyes were watching the flickering flames, but he felt her the moment she stepped into the living room, and he refrained from looking back at her. He had to keep to his mindset, no matter how hard it would be. And he knew himself; it was going to be hard. Especially if she looked at him with those eyes and their raging emotions; see, he was already setting himself up for failure. “It dropped in temperature being later, huh?” Jake finally turned and risked a glance over his shoulder at her. She had walked to the window and was watching the snow closest to the window falling down. Not that one could see much of it anyway, but it had gotten so dark. “Yeah, which is why I thought it best to get the fire going.” Jake knew he should say anything to feel the void, but he didn’t know what. She pretty much summed up everything before leaving the room. And as he thought about it, his eyes glanced back at the couch, and he cursed himself. “How l
Rachel leaned her head back on the door as her thoughts tumbled around. She knew what just happened wasn’t good, though her body was screaming at her that it felt high as a kite right now. Which actually caused her to smile, though she shouldn’t, she couldn’t stop it, and there laid the conflicting problems. She shouldn’t want this, she shouldn’t be happy, but she was. However, she shouldn’t also be thinking about how wrong it was. “Stupid, Rachel,” she mumbled to herself as she finally pushed off the wall and walked into the room. She needed to think about this, and she could only do that if she went as far as she could. Being stuck in a cabin meant that far wasn’t happening. But she could go to her room and lock her door for the moment while she tried to right the world that got knocked on its axis yet again. “You need to stop overthinking this.” She paused as she opened her drawer to grab some comfortable pants and a shirt. Was she overthinking this
Jake sat up as well, his brows pulled together in confusion. He wasn’t sure how she got into her head, but she did, and he could feel the moment she pulled away. He wanted to pull her back in his arms, but he knew her well enough, she would just refuse, and it would lead to an argument. And as he watched her pull his shirt on, he wanted to comment on how sexy she looked in his clothes, but he knew that wouldn’t work either. So, with quite the effort, he wrapped the blanket around his bottom half and crossed his arms. “Okay, you have my shirt, what am I going to wear?” She jumped at the sound of his voice, and he knew right away she was far into her head and her thoughts and pulling her out was about impossible, at least for the moment. He was going to have to give her time and that was the one thing he didn’t want to do. The time between them without talking never led to anything good. “Hey,” he softly said as he grabbed her arm lightly and drew her near. “Talk to
