With the phone finally in hand, Marisol's first call was to Alinta.

They had planned to leave together. Her sudden disappearance and complete radio silence must have left Alinta frantic with worry.

The call connected almost instantly.

"Ali," Marisol called out.

"Oh, thank god, it's really you!" Alinta exclaimed. She never answered unknown numbers, but something had compelled her to pick up. To her relief, it was Marisol.

"Are you okay? Did that bastard Lucian hurt you?" she asked, her words tumbling out in a rush.

"I'm fine," Marisol replied.

The concern in Alinta's voice hit her like a wave, flooding her chest with emotion. Her eyes burned, her throat tightened, but she managed a faint smile. "What about you? Didn't you board the plane?"
