Selina's POV

Luka stood in front of me, his smile warm and shiny.

I was surprised that he was home so early and mumbled, "You're home early..."

"Yeah. I missed our anniversary last night. So, I wanna make it up to you today. Babe, sorry about it." He looked serious as he said so.

"Where's Nora? Don't tell me you forgot about her, huh?" He arched his brow.

I suddenly realized that I was so caught up with my thoughts that I even forgot to pick up Nora from the Cubs' House!

"Oh! I..." I felt so guilty forgetting about her.

"Never mind. I'll go get her now. I left the groceries on the kitchen table. But don't start cooking before I get back. This time, I'll cook your favorite dishes," he said as he put on his coat, grabbed the car key, and rushed out the door.

A while later, the door opened and closed again.

I thought Luka and Nora were home.

"Selina, it's me. I had such a long day, and I'm starving now. Is dinner ready?"

A languid voice reached my ear.

I turned back and saw Abby leaning against the kitchen table.

With her arms folded over her chest, she gazed at me beneath her long lashes. A cascade of raven-black hair reached to her waist.

I forgot that she also had our home key, and so she could "visit" us whenever she wanted.

I complained about it to Luka.

But nothing changed since her parents and Luka spoiled her so much.

As the so-called "Victim" from the rogue attack years ago in her pack, everyone in that family tried to make it up to her in such a way.

"Hey, I'm not your mom. Plus, this isn't your home, get it? If you're so hungry, you'd better go home."

I was normally an easy-going person, but I wouldn't "spoil" her as her family did.

She pouted and walked away. And I could feel her anger.

"Mommy, I'm home!" Nora ran into the kitchen and hugged my thigh.

"Sweetie, how was your sleepover with your best friend yesterday?" I cupped her face.

"It was good. And Daddy picked me up today. He said it was a surprise." She stared at me with her naive eyes.

Luka walked into the kitchen with both hands in his pockets, looking handsome, as usual.

"Luka! You're home." Abby trotted over with a big smile on her face.

"Abby? What are you doing here? I thought you were with Mom and Dad."

As he said so, he walked behind me and left a kiss on my neck.

"Babe, I'll cook. You look tired. Just go have a rest, OK?"

"Gee! Get a room! You two are making me sick." Abby rolled her eyes.

"Luka, I wanna help you cook." She offered.

"I'm fine doing it myself. It'll be faster." Luka said with a straight face. "And, you should probably go home now."

"Why?"

"It's our anniversary. OK?"

"I thought it was yesterday."

"It's none of your business, and just go home. Now!"

"I don't wanna go home. Plus, I'm starving. Just let me stay for dinner. I promise I'll leave right after it." She pulled Luka's arm and begged.

"You heard me, didn't you? And stop acting like a child while you're a grown woman!" He said in a harsh tone and released Alpha aura.

Abby took a step back, and she swallowed hard.

"Fine. Let her stay for dinner." I cut in. "She's right at one point. Our anniversary was yesterday." I stared at Luka, and my voice was cold.

I could feel the fluctuation in his pheromones. He tried to stay calm, yet I knew he was getting irritated.

Right. I wanted to get under his skin.

At this time, Elise called back.

I grabbed my phone and rushed to our bedroom as quickly as I could.

"Hey, you? Where the hell have you been?"

I couldn't wait to continue our unfinished conversation at the coffee shop.

"You said you ran into Luka the other day." I took a deep breath.

"Where? And when?" I could feel Violet snarling beneath my skin.

"Gee, just slow down. I'm calling you to talk about it." Elise sounded startled.

Yeah, she should be, given that she had no idea what I had been wondering about for the past few hours.

But it didn't matter anymore. I just needed to know what she saw the other day.

"Then, go ahead!"

"Well, I was driving in the northern territory, and I saw Luka walking on the street with a woman. But I drove past so quickly, and I didn't see the woman's face." She stuttered, trying to recall the scene.

"Was that woman dressed in a red coat?" I could feel my voice shiver slightly.

Selina's POVI didn't press for the rest of the pack members to stay. I knew better than to corner Luka completely right now. I needed him to make a concession."Can't we just go home and talk about this? Why are we airing family issues in the middle of the office?" Kole stepped forward, his deep voice laced with impatience.I turned a sharp, unyielding glare toward him. "You're about to find out exactly why.""Selina, watch your tone!" Luka roared, his Alpha aura flaring. He wasn't used to this. For years, I had been the sweet, and meek Luna. They had all gotten far too comfortable with my silence.I snapped. I bolted upright from the sofa."Luka, you got used to me talking softly, haven't you? Let me tell you something—this is me being polite. Don't you dare push me any further!"I knew exactly why Luka was acting so tough today. He thought the Bolton Group project was practically in his pocket. He thought h

Elise choked out, suddenly realizing she was gaping. She quickly cleared her throat, trying to regain her composure. "It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Elise. Selina is my best friend—we grew up together, and she's like a sister to me..."For some reason, Elise started rambling, her cheeks flushing slightly as she took in his jaw-dropping looks.Damon let out a soft, deep chuckle that resonated through the room. Selina's POV"A secret? You're so utterly shameless, Abby. How could you possibly have any secrets left?""Oh, come on, Selina. I've sent you so many pictures. Have you enjoyed them?" she said, taking a slow, casual sip of her wine."Since you're so good at playing the quiet, I figured you just don't want to leave him. Am I right?""Come on, drink up! You don't think I'll drug you, right? We're sharing the same bottle. See?"She titled the bottle of wine."You knew Luka cheated; you should have packed your things and left. What are you waiting for?" She looked at me, completely indifferent, tossing her hair back."Whatever. It's not like you can control what we do anyway. Just a heads up, Selina—he can't live without me."She leaned against the sofa, checking her manicured nails. "By the way, how do you feel about the diamond ring he bought me? Oh, and he also bought such a nice villa for me. I'm moving

I had no idea what kind of twisted game Abby was plotting now, but a knot of unease began to twist in my gut.I grabbed my keys, threw on a jacket, and headed out to my car.As I pulled out of the driveway, I dialed Elise's number, thinking it would be smart to have backup—or at least someone who knew where I was.But the call went straight to voicemail. Selina's POVDamon kept his gaze fixed on the running stream.I didn't think he planned to answer my question. I knew there was something behind those golden-amber eyes.Suddenly, he broke the tension and got up. He reached down and gently wrapped his large hand around mine, pulling me up in one smooth motion."Go get some sleep in the treehouse."He gave me a playful wink, a faint, boyish smirk playing on his lips."This whole place is packed with healing energy. It'll do you good."I blinked, looking up at him. "What about you?""Well, I'd love to share the treehouse with you, if you don't mind," he teased, his voice dropping into a low, gravelly vibration."Well... I..." My tongue tied instantly. My wolf was practically purring in my chest, but my human brain was spinning.Damon let out a soft chuckle. "I'm messing with you, Selina. Just go up. I'll be right down here."I nodded,

When I looked up, his expression was a heart-wrenching mix of longing and a faint, almost boyish disappointment. He looked genuinely hurt, like a man who had finally found a piece of something precious only to have it snatched away.I tried to move away, wanting to put some distance between us, but at that exact moment, he reached out. His fingers circled my wrist, gentle enough not to bruise, but firm enough to tell me he wasn't ready for me to leave.I couldn't bring myself to look into those amber eyes. I knew he was a good man, or at least, he had been nothing but a savior to me so far.But the truth was, we had only known each other for a short time.
