Chapter 2

작가: Lynn Green
Zachary opened his mouth to retort, but he couldn't find the words. In the end, he simply frowned harder and kept silent.

At that moment, Vivian, who was still curled up in his arms, piped up in an aggrieved tone, "Sammy, don't be angry. This is all my fault… I shouldn't have insisted on staying here. It's no wonder that you hate me so much. I'll leave right away and won't burden you two any longer."

With that, she pretended to pack up her things, as though she were ready to move out right that second.

I scoffed at her acting. "You don't need to leave. I will. That way, you two 'siblings' will get the house to yourselves. That would be perfect for you, right? I won't be around to be an eyesore anymore."

The fury that Zachary had only just pushed down flared to life again. His expression darkened as he snapped, "Samantha Linden, are you just about done with your tantrum? You don't even have any parents. Where will you go if you leave me?"

The moment he finished speaking, even he seemed taken aback for a moment. Clearly, he had realized just how hurtful his words were. A hint of panic flickered in his eyes, and he opened his mouth to apologize.

However, before he could, Vivian went limp in his arms as she fainted.

With that, Zachary couldn't be bothered with me anymore. His face fell before he hurriedly swept her up into his arms and rushed outside.

I stood rooted to the spot, staring at their retreating backs and noting the intimate way they leaned against each other. The last bit of hope and love I had for Zachary went out like a candle that had been snuffed out.

Instead of crying, I contacted my lawyer to draft a divorce agreement.

Zachary hadn't come home in three days.

Every day, he would message me at the same time, like clockwork. He kept apologizing, saying how he knew that he was wrong and that he had hurt me, that he would come back to apologize to me in person later.

I simply stared at the messages, feeling nothing but numbness. I honestly didn't care whether he returned home or not. All I wanted was for him to quickly sign the divorce agreement.

However, while I was waiting to divorce him, I discovered that I was pregnant.

I was an orphan, so my greatest wish since I was a child was to have a family of my own. That was why I took great care in preparing my body for conception after I married Zachary.

Unfortunately, things didn't turn out as I had hoped.

In the past three years, I had gone to the hospital countless times for medical checkups, taken all kinds of bitter herbs that claimed to increase fertility, and even went through all sorts of suffering in my bid to get pregnant. Still, I failed to conceive.

Now, this child had come at the worst possible time.

I gazed down at the positive pregnancy test report in my hands, a complex mix of emotions swirling in me.

Just then, a familiar voice drifted over from around the corner.

It was Zachary.

When I looked over, I saw him carefully supporting Vivian as they slowly made their way past me. I found myself following them subconsciously, but I had only just reached the doorway when the conversation from inside pinned me to the spot.

Vivian asked him softly, "Will you divorce her if she's truly determined to leave you?"

Zachary was silent for a long while before he answered, "No, I won't divorce her. She's my wife. At most, I'll just put a little more effort into making it up to her."

From my position outside the door, I couldn't help but smile mockingly.

Wife? So, it turned out that he did still remember that I was his wife.

Immediately after, Zachary spoke up again. "I've already stopped her medication."

Medication? What medication?

My heart jumped into my throat at the words.

In the next second, Vivian's voice rang out, her tone filled with clear displeasure.

"What, are you blaming me for drugging her with birth control pills ever since you two got married?"

My mind went blank as I froze on the spot, completely thunderstruck.

I could hardly believe my ears!

As it turned out, I had failed to conceive all these years, not because there was something wrong with my body, but because Vivian had been secretly drugging me all along!

And Zachary had been aware of it from the start.

Before I could recover from my shock, I heard Zachary hastily reassure Vivian.

"Of course, I'm not blaming you. Why would I? I can absolutely understand that you can't stand seeing her pregnant when you can't bear children yourself.

"It's just that… we've been married for so many years, so it's only right to have a child by now. It's technically a form of compensation from me to her. Besides, with a niece or nephew, at least there'll be someone to take care of you when you're old."

One year later, I met Jordan Goldman in my shop.He was a designer from a nearby company and would often pop in to buy flowers for his clients or his family. He was a gentle, kind, straightforward, and steady man, with a soft-spoken and polite demeanor. After learning of my past, he was even more heartbroken for me. He remembered my likes and dislikes and would always avoid ordering anything I didn't like. When it rained, he would come to my shop to fetch me home, the umbrella always tipped to cover me more than him. When I was tired, he would silently help me tidy up the shop without me even asking, not complaining even once about it. In fact, he would even tell me, "All the hardships and suffering you went through in the past were not your fault. You deserve to be treasured and given the most blissful life."It wasn't until I got together with him that I finally experienced what true love was.He was always thinking of me and putting me first, making me feel the sense of securit

However, after the scandal of all his crimes, the company fired him and even put him on the industry blacklist.Everywhere he went, he continued to face the public's accusations and scorn, with people labelling him a scumbag, swindler, and murderer of his own child. When he attempted to look for another job, most companies immediately rejected him once they did a background check on him. Left without a choice, he could only humble himself and work odd jobs here and there, such as doing food delivery, driving a cab, or even transporting goods. However, because he had lived such a comfortable, pampered life for so long, he wasn't able to endure even the slightest bit of hardship. Barely a few days would pass before he was fired from the job. When he decided to r

On the day of the hearing, I dressed in simple clothes and stepped into the courthouse with Mr. Zink beside me. Zachary and Vivian also arrived with their lawyer. As usual, Vivian was dolled up extravagantly. Her eyes were filled with disdain and arrogance, as though she thought she wouldn't be sentenced for her crimes.Zachary, on the other hand, kept his head bowed low, clearly unable to look at me.Robert and Marissa were sitting in the gallery, faces twisted into scowls as they glared at me.The courtroom was solemn, with the judge sitting high above while court officers stood guard on both sides. As the hearing began, the attorneys for both sides presented their claims and defense arguments in turn. The opposing lawyer tried to argue that Vivian's depression was real and that she'd shoved me to the floor by accident. He dismissed my claims of her drugging me as baseless speculation, then insisted that Zachary had acted alone in transferring our assets and that it had nothing

Zachary went on to say a lot more things, such as how he had divorced Vivian back then due to irreconcilable differences and how he felt guilty about her losing her ability to conceive after her miscarriage. He claimed that his only intention was to look after her at first, but that slowly changed when she clung tighter to him, leaving him with no way of escaping. He said that he fell in love with me after seeing how gentle and kind I was and how I was willing to give my all to this family. However, he was just too weak and cowardly to fight back against Vivian and face his mistakes. It wasn't until I lost the baby that he realized that he had lost the most precious things to him. That was when he understood how much of a bastard he had been. He told me that he had been suffering from insomnia every night, haunted by the pain and regret, and all he wanted was to ask for my forgiveness. His remorse seemed sincere, the pooling tears beneath him on the floor a testament to how much

Robert snorted coldly and added, "I'm warning you, you'd better drop the case! Otherwise, we'll make sure you won't be able to continue living in this city! You only just had a miscarriage, and without a husband to support you, how do you think you'll be able to survive here?"Their every word stabbed deep into my heart like a dagger. However, this time, I didn't cry or feel any sorrow, only sheer disappointment that chilled me to the bone.Locking gazes with them, I uttered clearly, "You're welcome to try."Then, I reached out to press the call bell for the nurse.Within seconds, a nurse and a doctor had rushed over to me."This patient only just suffered a miscarriage, so her body is incredibly weak right now. She needs peace and quiet to recuperate! If you continue to cause a commotion here and threaten our patient, we'll call for the security to have you thrown out!" the nurse snapped sternly.Robert and Marissa were tempted to continue, but with the steely looks in the docto

"Lastly, I want to divorce Zachary. I want him to leave this marriage with nothing to his name. I want him to pay for everything that he's done!" After I finished speaking, Mr. Zink replied sternly, "Don't you worry, Ms. Linden. You've provided me with ample evidence, so I'll start preparing the lawsuit documents right away. I'll do my best to secure the maximum legal rights and compensation for you."As I ended the call, I finally breathed a sigh of relief and closed my eyes tiredly.I had already lost the baby, so I couldn't allow myself to be left with nothing too. I would fight for justice, both for me and my dead child. With that new resolve burning in me, I decided that I needed to rest properly so that I would have the energy to deal with the upcoming lawsuit. However, at that moment, the door was violently shoved open before a loud wailing shattered the peace and quiet of the room."Oh, Sammy, my dear daughter-in-law! You're finally awake!""How could something like t
