Haven Griffin

The blaring sound of the alarm caused me to flip open my eyelids.

Jeez!

Is it that loud ??

I sat up while groaning, the sound disturbing my eardrums.

I finally lost my cool throwing the alarm clock at the door.

Finally!

I sigh while resting on the headboard of the bed still having the hangover from yesterday after partying in the club with my guys.

Oh Gosh!

This headache is getting worse.

And to think I was committed to being sober yesternight.

Looks like fate had another thing planned for me.

Taking another huge sigh, I stood up from the bed tiredly heading towards the bathroom.

I got in and went straight for the sink.

I turned on the faucet and water gushed out, I splashed some of it on my to get the sleep off and maybe calm my hangover.

The sound of my room door opening made me frown as I knew what was coming next.

"Haven!!". Dad growled angrily.

My father.

And to think the beginning of my day wasn’t worse already.

I walked back into my room watching him glare at him. "Whats up?".

"What’s up ? That’s how you address your father? Where were you throughout last week?".

I scoffed. "Why do you care? You kicked me out of your house, remember that ?”.

“I kicked you out so you could learn some respect and appreciate the good things you’ve been getting for free but I see now that you didn’t learn nothing “.

“Okay “. I crossed my arms refusing to react to what he said. “I didn’t learn, case closed “.

“The case isn’t closed, Haven. And don’t talk to me way”. He shouted. “What is your problem?”.

“My problem is you, Dad. First, you threw me out of your house and now you are here ? Why ? Last time I checked, this was my apartment, it’s under my name “.

“You are so ungrateful”.

“What should I be grateful for exactly ? The insults that you threw at me ? Or the humiliation you put me through in front of your domestic workers ?”.

My father glared back at me. “You very well deserved those insults because you know what you did. So you should be grateful because if it wasn’t for me then you would be rotting in jail by now, don’t ever forget that “.

“I can never forget that, Dad. Do you want to know why ? Because you never let me forget it, you always remind me all the time about how you are the reason I’m not in jail. Maybe you should have left me, I would have handled myself in prison “.

“Handled yourself in prison? You can’t even handle yourself in the outside world, your mother and I are always the ones who clean up your dirty mess “.

“That’s why I left home, so I can clean up my messes myself. And besides, this is my house, Dad. I don’t want to welcome you here anymore, you should leave “.

"I can’t believe the audacity you have to talk to me that way, I am your father".

"Yeah. Yeah, sure". I said rolling my eyes.

"I didn’t come here just to shout at your insolence. The lecturers say you haven't been going to college for the past one week".

"Come on, really now? That is so nice of them. Did the lecturers also tell you that they are boring?".

"Haven, how are you a failure in everything you do? You are failing in your grades".

I strolled to my bed. "I left your house at your persistence, I left my vacation just to attend college. And I got a D in the last semester exams. What else do you want?".

"For you to be a better son “.

I chuckled. “Yeah, that must be a joke “.

“Really? I said something serious and you find it funny ? You are laughing, Haven ?”.

I shrug not understanding his reaction.

“Since you want to laugh now, how about I crack a joke too?”. He asked with his face turning to a frown. “I'm taking away this apartment and all the cars in the garage from you. That’s why I’ve come here".

I looked at him noticing he had a serious expression. "Wait, what? You can't do that to me".

"I think I’m becoming too soft on you, Haven. Unless I see an improving percentage on your scores. You are not getting your cars or this apartment back".

"Where am I supposed to live?".

"My house. You come back home and stay with us, me, your Mum and your little sister, do you get that? Until your grades are back up, your accounts are frozen".

I scoff. “You must be joking “.

“Oh, I’m serious. You need to learn how to do things on your own, no more daddy or mommy’s help since you are now taking that for granted, not even appreciating a single thing that we’ve done for you “.

“Is it about the jail stuff ?”. I asked him wanting to know. “You know the reason why I’m not grateful for what you did, by helping me out there, you put someone else life in danger “.

“I’m not continuing this conversation with you. When you get your grades back up, we’ll have a talk “.

“Well how the fuck am I supposed to get my grades up all of a sudden? Come on, Dad, seriously, that is a huge task. Is that your way of punishing me ?”.

"Maybe. Until you learn to be grateful".

💄Ariel Woods💄

I smiled as I brushed my hair down, dark tresses halfway down my back.

I'm just so happy.

I'll be starting SRK college today, its one of the best yet very expensive college in all of Brooklyn.

Well on an ordinary day, I won't be able to attend that school since my Dad can hardly afford to put food on our table.

Ever since what happened with my brother.

The whole trying to bring up money for his bail.

But then I got a lucky scholarship which covers my tuition fees till I graduate.

Although, the college is mainly for elites and the rich kids.

I should have started school last week but I was so busy working at my Dad's coffee shop to raise money for my books.

My Dad isn't financially stable right now and my Mum is actually dead while my brother was serving a term in jail.

His case is really a sore topic.

So for now, it’s just me and my Dad at home.

I'm Ariel Woods, eighteen and I love cute puppies.

I have wavy flowing blonde hair and cute blue eyes although the glasses I put on conceals its beauty.

I grabbed my backpack and walked out of my room and stormed off to Dad's room.

I got in and met him still asleep.

Poor Dad.

He probably worked himself up late yesterday just to get some money.

I sighed and closed his door quietly going into the small living room as I waited for my friend, Harmony Morris.

She's actually a customer I met at my Dad coffee shop a while back around a month ago but she's pretty nice.

She also attends SRK college and her parents are very wealthy.

I sat on the droopy couch waiting for her, she actually promised to come pick me up.

I heard the door bell ring so I stood up and went over to open it and as expected, it was Harmony.

She wore a classic gold jumpsuit exposing her back which was flawless.

And on her fingers were glittering diamonds while her hair was in a high ponytail.

"Fuck!!". Harmony shrieked entering into my apartment.

"Jeez!!". I told her off. "Keep your voice down, my Dad is still in bed".

"This is awesome. You have no idea how happy I am that you finally get to be in the same college with me".

I giggled happily. "I know right. I was just so excited when I read that letter".

"Told you that you were going to ace that scholarship exam". She said clicking her tongue.

I held my backpack tightly. "So I'm ready for my first day, lets go".

"We are going to have so much fun".

She continues talking as we walk out of my apartment heading towards the elevator.

I get in with her and press the last button.

"And with you as my roommate. You are definitely going to love SRK college".

"Roommates?".

"Yeah. Or are you not going to be living in the hostel?".

"Come on, Harmony. You know I can't afford that right now".

"Hey, don't worry about that. I'll pay the bills, Ariel".

"Well I'd love to but I can't leave my Dad all alone at home. You know, he's not well with all that has been happening".

Harmony thinks my dad is sick because of malaria but my dad is actually down because of my brother’s jail case.

But she doesn’t know that of course.

What would she think if I tell her that I have a convicted brother ?

I usually avoid that conversation.

"Your Dad will be fine”. She heaved a sigh sadly. "Everything will be fine, Ariel".

I nodded sadly. "I do hope so".

The elevator stops and the door slides open, Harmony walks out and I stepped out as well.

We walked out of the apartment building and she takes me over to the parking lot.

"Thats your car?". I gaped surprised at the Bugatti in front of me.

"Yep". She squealed excitedly. "My parents got it for me at my 19th birthday party".

"Oh. Its really beautiful".

"I know right". She unlocked the car doors opening it for me. "Come on, get in".

I got in and she closed the door shut as she walked around to the other side of the car getting in as well.

I watched as she closed the door them her phone makes a chime.

She grabbed her phone and gasped squealing excitedly.

I panicked. "Whats wrong?".

"You won’t believe that but Haven is finally back to college".

"Huh?".

"Haven Griffin". She scrolls through her phone. "He's the cutest yet baddest guy in all of our college".

"Sounds harmful to be with him".

"Oh please. Ariel, when you get to see him, you'll definitely crush on him like I am".

"Not possible". I immediately refused the thought.

"Like they always say, the good girl always falls for the bad boys".
