_Astrid’s POV_

My breath hitched as my heart pounded in my chest. I knew they would catch up to me, but never this fast. And like I said before, I would never go down without a fight.

I tried to run again, even though I knew it might never sit well with Zade.

Honestly, I had thought of him as some kind of saint or something.

I thought he would save me from his brother or perhaps let me go. But I was wrong after all.

Zade was no different from Zarek, only that he was always calm, compared to his brother.

“Don’t even think about running.” he warned coldly. “Turn around," His deep voice rang from behind me. He hadn't shifted to chase after me, hadn't roared in anger like Zarek would always do. His voice remained calm even when he dished out his order.

I opened my mouth, but no words came out. I was scared to my bones.

Suddenly, I felt like the whole world was closing in on me.

My mind screamed at me to run, but my body wouldn't move.

“I said turn around!" This time, his voice rose to a certain level.

I flinched in return but obeyed in the end.

My feet felt heavy as I fully faced him.

My chest rose and fell rapidly, every muscle screaming at me to bolt, to fight, to do something. Anything at all.

“Where do you think you're running to, Astrid?" He quizzed, stepping closer with his both hands tucked in his pants pocket.

I swallowed hard, taking a step back. “Anywhere but here." My voice came out hoarse and shaky.

“And how far did you think you’d get?" Zade hummed as if considering my answer. He tilted his head and added, “You, a human, running barefoot through the woods full of powerful werewolves, rogues, and beasts much worst?”

I clenched my fists, glaring at him. “I’d rather take my chances than stay here and be your prisoner." A part of me protested at my words, but I refused to acknowledge it.

“You're not my prisoner." His expression remained cold, but his gaze darkened.

A bitter laugh escaped my lips as I stared at him deeply." Then what am I? A pet, like your fucked up brother calls me? A slave?” I lifted my chin, feeling the tears falling uncontrollably from my eyes. " You don't even see me as a person. You watch while your packmates laughs at me. And now, you won't even let me escape this horrible fate?” My voice gained strength despite the fear twisting in my gut.

"That’s it, Astrid. I'm not supposed to do anything because he bought you. You belong to him now. To us.” Zade said with a straight face, leaving me frozen in place.

The reminder of the fact that I was auctioned off to Zarek hit me deeper than ever.

Silence reigned for a couple of minutes before Zade moved.

I barely registered the blur of motion before a string hand wrapped around my throat.

His grip wasn't tight around my neck, but it was firm enough to make my pulse hammer.

“You don't know what kind of world you've been thrown into. Running will only get you killed." He said straight to my face.

“Maybe I’d rather die," I whispered, my voice barely audible.

" Don't say that,” His grip tightened—just a fraction, just enough to make me suck in a shaky breath.

“Why? Would it ruin your entertainment if I wasn't around to be tormented?" I asked in confusion, although deliberately.

“You're coming back to the packhouse." He said, finality in his tone as he ignored my question.

I started to shake my head, but he let go of my throat, only to grab my wrist instead.

Before I could protest, he yanked me forward, forcing me to stumble after him.

“No—let me go!" I thrahed, but his grip was unyielding, like iron shackles trapping me in place.

He didn't speak. He didn't slow down. He simply dragged me through the forest as though I weighed nothing, ignoring my struggles.

By the time we reached the packhouse, my feet were already torn and aching, my breath coming in gasps.

The moment we stepped past the gates and into the Packhouse, all eyes turned towards me.

“So she tried to escape after all?”

" Pathetic. Where did she think she was going?” I heard murmurs around me, including shrill voices of some nasty looking women.

Zarek stood at the top of the steps, arms crossed, a deep frown on his face as he watched me.

His dark eyes gleamed with mockery as he looked me up and down.

"Our little human tried to escape.”

My stomach twisted, humiliation burning through my form. I clenched my jaw, refusing to lower my head, even as my body to trembled. The drink was beginning to make me weak in the knees.

Zade finally released my wrist, shoving Mr forward. “She’s back. Do what you want with her," He muttered before turning to leave.

Wait. What?

I turned sharply to face him l. “Zade—"

“Guards!" Zarek's voice cut me short at once as he called for his henchmen.

The guards ran out instantly and held me down the next minute.

“Let me go!" I yelled and began thrashing again.

" Someone get the whip, my pet needs to be taught an important lesson. I've gone easy on her for quite awhile.”

My heart dropped to my stomach. Whip? Goddess no please..

I couldn't handle it. I can't.

A guard rushed forward with a whip and Zarek gestured with his head for him to stand behind me.

“Ten lashes," Zarek said, his smirk dripping with amusement. “For being a disobedient little pet."

Tears stung my eyes as I opened my mouth to apologize. I was wrong to have tried escaping from him and I needed to apologize.

But…

He was having none of it.

I clenched my teeth as a lash tore across my skin the next minute, the fiery pain making my vision blur. I groaned, but didn't scream.

I couldn't give them the satisfaction.

I saw a smile tug at Zarek's lips when he took in my facial expression.

Another lash. I bit down on my lip do hard I tasted blood.

I was kneeling in the center of the ballroom, surrounded by guests and warriors who had stayed to watch me suffer.

A public spectacle. A warning.

They enjoyed this.

“You know," Zarek began, brushing a loose stand of my hair back, “I could've handed you cover to the warriors instead. Let them have their fun with you."

My stomach twisted.

“But no." He sighed dramatically, moving back. “I've decided to be merciful."

He then turned towards his guards. " That's enough, take her back to her quarters."

Just to lashes and I felt my world coming to an end.

My entire body hurt like hell, as if a truck had run it over.

I guess he saw the near death condition I was in, so he made them stop before they killed his play thing.

The moment they pulled me up, Zarek leaned closer, his voice a mockery of gentleness. “Now, what do you say, Astrid?"

I met his gaze, blood trickling from my lips.

“Go to hell."

A sharp slap echoed through the air as a guard's hand struck my face.

The pain barely registered anymore.

“How dare you?!" Zarek's voice rose to it’s peak as he turned to glare at the guard.

" I'm sorry, Alpha, I thought_”

" No one has the right to lay a finger on her except I permit you to!” He snapped and before anyone could register what he would do next, Zarek's claws elongated and he directly clawed at the guard's neck, killing him on the spot and his blood marring my dress.

Just like that, the guard dropped dead on the cold floor.

_Astrid’s POV_Darkness clung to me like a second skin, hefty and suffocating. I didn’t know how much time had passed since the punishment. My body still ached painfully from the lashes, but it wasn't the pain that haunted me. It was the memory of the guard’s lifeless eyes, the blood pooling beneath his neck and head, the way Zarek had ended his life without hesitation.I had seen violence before. I had lived in its shadow for as long as I could remember. But never had I witnessed someone's life snuffed out so easily, so mercilessly and right before my eyes.I wasn't sure for how long I had hidden in my room. A day? Two? A week? It was like a blur to me. No one had even come to see me. Not Zarek nor Zade. My meals were delivered in silence, the guards outside my door never uttered a single word either.I wasn't sure if I should feel relieved or concerned.Zarek had left for some Alpha business according to the whispers from the guards when they thought I was asleep. But no one knew

_Astrid’s POV_My mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water as I gazed at the man before me. Missed him? In his dreams. But I couldn’t say that out loud. The last thing I wanted was another punishment while I was still healing.“Get up,” Before I could process my next words, his cold tone rang out again. This time, I dared not disobey. I slowly crawled out of bed and sat on the other side.“Come here,” He demanded again, his scrutinizing gaze lingering on my form for some odd reason.I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat, then slowly got up to my feet. Slowly, I moved towards him, my heart beating faster than ever. What was he planning to do? What did he want with me at this time? Was he finally going to kill me?Oh, Goddess. When I was close enough, I paused. I peered at him when he made no move to approach me. What was he thinking? Why the hell was looking at me that way?“I see you haven’t recovered fully,” He slurred, even though he wasn't drunk.Something felt o

Just as Astrid tried to predict Alpha Zarek’s next move, he did the complete opposite. There she was thinking he would probably bring her up to her feet, maybe kiss her passionately just to quench the fierce lust in his eyes and body.Zarek pushed forward instead, stopping just a few inches from her.In one swift motion, he moved his hand and the clattering sound of his belt vaguely reverberated in Astrid’s ear, causing her already quick breath to rev even more. Her eyes widened when Zarek directly and shamelessly let his cock out in the open and before her eyes. She gasped at the length of it, her hands scrambling to cover her mouth.Seeing the look on her face, Zarek’s lips curled up in satisfaction. “What are you doing, Alpha….” She opened her mouth, ready to question him when suddenly, Zarek’s hand grabbed her chin harshly, his smile still intact as he warned, “Keep your mouth shut. Don't act like you don’t know what’s about to happen, little rabbit.” She swallowed hard. Of cou

The next morning, Zarek and Zade came downstairs for breakfast. The long dining table was already set, and the maids moved around after briefly greeting the both of them and trying to make sure everything was set to perfection. Zarek glanced around the moment he sat down, he noticed Astrid was absent and a frowned settled on his face. He was in no mood for small talk, so he turned to the head maid and inquired, “Where is Astrid?”The head maid turned towards him and bowed slightly before she replied, “She's still in her bedroom. Hasn't stepped out since yesterday. I have no idea what's wrong with her." She said with a smirk, her happiness was that this time, the twin would definitely punish Astrid for her absence. The bitch always felt she was higher than them all just because she was named the personal maid to the Alphas.‘let’s see how she gets away with this one,’ she thought and released a thin smile, a barely noticeable one.Zarek's jaw tensed, but before he could say anything,

_Astrid’s POV_I lay in my bedroom, fear clawing at my senses as Zarek's words replayed in my mind. Entertaining their guest. With the ache all over my body, I doubted I’d even be able to move, let alone entertain their guest. What was I supposed to do?I couldn't ask any of the maids because none of them seemed to like me. They all had the same look on their faces every time they saw me.This was going to be harder than I thought. My gaze remained fixed outside my small window as I watched the day fade into night, and darkness settled in.A sharp knock echoed through my small room after a while, making my heart slam against my ribs. Before I could even react, the door burst open with a deafening bang.Esme and a few other maids walked in carrying a lot of makeup equipment. A few of them came with boxes that resembled that of a designer dress.“Get up, we need to doll you up for tonight," Esme said, her gaze filled with a burning hatred for me.I swallowed hard, slowly pulling myself

_Astrid’s POV_The moment I stepped into the grand hall, I felt fear coil in the pit of my stomach. The scent of wine, expensive cologne, and something primal loitered in the air. I forced myself to keep my steps steady as I descended the staircase, slowly moving to join the other maids who were already moving gracefully between the guests, serving drinks. The dress I wore clung too tightly to me, Oriana had told me that Esme chose that dress particularly forme. That witch. I clenched my fist, inhaling deeply and trying to steady my nerves.I scanned the room, counting the number of people present. At least six men, their conversations reeking of the power and influence they possessed. But my eyes were particularly drawn to the long table at the far end of the hall.A man sat at the center, dressed in a well tailored black and gold coat, his dark hair perfectly styled. He was relaxed and even leaning back in his chair, one hand holding a wine glass. That had to be the Lycan King.

The room was too quiet, too still, except for the presence of the three most powerful men in it. Zarek, Zade, and Valerian. “I hope you know the seriousness of what you both have done, Alphas?” Gideon, Alpha Zarek, and Alpha Zade's Beta asked as he stared at the two men seated in front of him.One of them had a nonchalant look on his face as if he never cared about things like this. The other one had an excited look on his face as he kept going through the papers in his hand.“Yes, I know the gravity, but look at this," Zarek's excited voice filled the air as he turned the papers towards Gideon. “Valerian finally signed these goddamn papers after so many years. It’s all worth it, don’t you think?" "I beg to disagree, Alpha. You just put everyone in danger, and all you care about is a worthless deal?” Gideon knew how important this deal was to Zarek, but he couldn't believe that the twins had actually backstabbed the Lycan King just after he helped them. And that too for a worthless human.Goddess, help him.“It’s not worthless." _Astrid’s POV_I stared at my reflection in the mirror, trying not to cry.The maids had spent hours painting my face with shimmers and brushing my lips with deep crimson. My hair was curled into elegant curls, pinned with stones that gleamed under the light. The white gown I wore was smooth and silky, too pretty for something that felt like a funeral to me.I didn’t recognize myself.I looked like a bride but I felt like a sacrifice.I blinked fast. I couldn’t cry. I couldn’t ruin the makeup the Lycan maids had done so proudly. They kept calling me “His Majesty’s Luna.” I didn’t correct them. What was the point? The truth was a curse I couldn’t speak.I was about to be married off to Alpha Valerian. And the worst part? The twins never came for me.Not Zarek. Not Zade. They really didn't come. They were probably with Cassia and planning their wedding or something. Even after everything we’d been through. After every word, every look, every moment of madness and closeness… they still

The car pulled into the driveway of the Blackwood mansion and Zarek alighted from the vehicle before anyone else.Just at the entrance of the mansion, three figures stood, two in all-black suits and the other in a white flowery dress. The woman had the same facial features as the twins and it was enough to prove that she wasn’t just a relation, but their birth mother. The moment her gaze met her son’s dark ones, a smile appeared at the corners of her lips. Zade slowly climbed out as well, refusing to help Cassia out of the car.For someone who was going to become their future Luna, they didn’t even care about her. Cassia begrudgingly pushed her door open and climbed out of the car, at the same time smoothening her facial features to avoid a negative reaction from her future in-laws.“Zarek, Zade, you came!” Luna Hinary smiled at her children, taking a step forward. But her steps faltered when her gaze landed on the woman that just climbed out of the car. “What is she_”“My Luna, pl

Zarek groaned with each passing minute as time ticked by. He glanced at the entrance of the mansion again, wondering what the hell was keeping that woman in there. Today was a very unfortunate day, why? Because their father, Alpha Vincent, had requested that the twins bring their future Luna to him. The moment he heard that the boys chose a wife, he had informed his wife happily, thanking the goddess for finally touching their hearts. He had urged them, together with their mother, to settle down with one of those women they kept moving around with. Also, they could settle with anyone, except for the human girl they brought home. He had heard so many stories about them already.Zarek’s foot tapped a furious rhythm against the gravel as he leaned against the black SUV again, arms crossed, jaw tight.“She’s been in there for a goddamn hour,” he growled again, glaring at the front doors of the mansion like they personally offended him. “What the hell is she doing in there, applying a

The ballroom shone in black and red, filled with the finest of werewolf royalty. This was no ordinary event, it was the official masquerade ball held by the Elder Council. A rare occasion where all Alphas gathered not to battle, but to make peace.Zarek stood stiffly near the edge of the crowd, his mask barely covering the annoyed twitch of his jaw. Beside him, Zade remained calm, as always, though his eyes scanned the room with a calculating edge.Tonight, they were not here as warriors or rulers. They were here to apologize.Formally.It was the Council’s condition. If they wanted to be considered for the Gehman title, they had to win back the trust of the Alphas they had recently clashed with, either through bloodshed or cold disrespect.Zarek hated every second of it.He downed his champagne in one gulp and muttered, “This is a damn circus.”Zade smirked under his mask. “Play nice.”Before Zarek could respond, a voice rang out from behind them.“There they are! _Astrid’s POV_I couldn’t remember how long I had been here.Days? Weeks? Time didn’t make much sense in this place. Valerian’s home, or prison, if I’m being honest, was cold, both in feeling and in spirit. The windows were large, but they didn’t open. The guards outside my door didn’t speak. And the silence that filled the halls screamed louder than any cry I’d ever let out.At first, I tried to stay strong. I told myself the twins would come. That Zarek, with his sharp tongue and wild temper, would burst through the door. That Zade would hold my hand again and quietly promise me that everything would be okay. But nothing came. I didn't know if they would ever come either, considering the letter I left on the table in the kitchen. The one Valerian had made me write. He had held me at gunpoint and made me scribble down the letter with shaky hands. And the worst part? Gideon had a hand in all these. It turns out that Valerian wanted me, Gideon wanted me to leave the twins. The best

_Zarek’s POV_“I didn’t understand back then. I was scared.” Cassia explained for the hundred and fourteenth time after cleaning my wounds.Zade sat there and watched her like she grew a second head or something.Cassia wouldn't stop begging us to take her back, that she was a changed person. But I would rather eat glass than believe she changed her foolish ways.“Cassia, just give up," I told her and ran a hand through my hair."Never! I'm not lying to you, I love you both! My brother… he’s made me see things differently. He’ll be here tomorrow, he just wants to talk.”I raised a brow at that last one. “Your brother?”She nodded. “Yes. Caelen is coming.” Yes, he shared the same name as Zade's wolf.Great. Just what I needed. Another high-ranking wolf in this fucking circus. “Alright, you can stay here for today, after the meeting with him by tomorrow, you’d leave with him.” I sighed and slowly stood up. I needed sleep, to let Creighton recharge a bit.Cassia tried to follow me, but

_Zarek’s POV_Blood. Fucking silver blood. It soaked through my shirt and burned like hell, and still I was standing, barely. Zade helped me to the car while I clenched my teeth so hard I thought they’d crack. The warehouse reeked of blood, death, and betrayal. We had wiped out every damn wolf who turned on us. Every single one.Except for that motherfucker Veyric. He ran like the coward he’s always been. Next time I see him, I’ll bury my claws in his damn throat.“Drive,” I growled, slumping into the back seat as Zade climbed in beside me. My whole body throbbed, but I didn’t care. Not yet.The second I opened my eyes to see who was in the driver's seat, my face fell. I saw Gideon, the same one who was supposed to be guarding Astrid. He was waiting in the car, blood splattered across his shirt but unharmed. Too fucking clean for a guy who was supposed to be protecting Astrid.“What the hell are you doing here, Gideon? Zarek glared daggers as realization dawned on him. The man they were doing business with—Veyric—stood just a few steps away, a silver-plated gun aimed straight at Zarek’s chest. Behind him, three more of his men raised their weapons, pointing them at Zade, Gideon, and Astrid.Zarek’s jaw clenched. “What the hell is the meaning of this, Veyric?”Truth be told, the twins hadn't seen this coming.Yes, they knew there would definitely be an attack during the receiving of the packages, but he never once suspected that the one person they should be wary of was the main trader. The one who was supposed to hand everything over to them.Goddess, they had blindly trusted him.Zarek felt his anger boil over in his chest at the betrayal.Veyric smirked. His eyes shined faintly with a cold kind of pride. “Bold of you to think we’d give you this shipment for just that little money.”“If you wanted more,” Zarek said slowly, keeping his voice steady, “you could’ve said so.
