The rainfall represented the tears that were pouring down my eyes in waves. So much that I could hardly see as my heart beat so loud and fast, I thought it was going to give up on me.

“No please!” I beg in the most desperate voice I've ever heard come out of me as my whole body shook with fear and pain. So much that I didn't care that I was humiliating myself even more by desperately begging, and crawling through the muddy floor.

He didn't even look at me

He didn't even care that I was loosing my mind.

My tears meant nothing to him.

“Don't reject me, I beg you!” I roared out as he opened his mouth to say the words that I knew very well would come out of his mouth with the way he looked at me with disgust.

“I, Alpha Ryder reject…” He started, and my chest immediately tore into pieces as a scream tore out of me.

It was one that woke the whole pack and had them at the scene in seconds.

The terror in my voice even had the warriors come out prepared, thinking there was an attack.

“...Yewa Rhalda as my mate.” He said without a care in the world, and left me there to carry the pain of being rejected on my own.

I didn't know it was possible and everyone still talked about how my human body produced the saddest wolf howl they had ever heard.

To them it was just a painful sight that rarely happened but was not impossible.

To them, I was just exaggerating

To them, I was a power hungry thief and only mourned that hard for him because I wanted to be Luna.

But I lost everything that day, including myself.

“Yewa, can you hear me?” I hear a familiar voice ask as bright light invaded my blurry eyes. As if opening my eyes wasn't painful enough, I immediately felt a sharp pain in my throat, down to my stomach.

I was not new to pain but this was gut wrenching.

It was like a thousand needles pricking me internally, and as much as I tried to not react, I couldn't.

“Do something!” I heard the General roar out as my low groans suddenly turned into terrified screams.

My whole body spasmed without my permission and as I trashed around, I felt someone hold me and although that did nothing much to relieve the sharp pain I felt inside, it gave me comfort.

So much comfort that I could not help but relax a bit.

The next few minutes were like that, and as the pain slowly subsided, I automatically became calmer and could now see my surroundings.

It was the General holding me, the doctor staring at me like I was a witch, and two women throwing me daggers with their eyes. A dagger that I threw right back.

“Why am I here?” I ask, somehow not remembering exactly what brought me here.

The last thing was the meal.

That meal

Oops.

“You knew it was poisoned, didn't you?” Mr. You know who asks as if he knew exactly what I was thinking, and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes, as although I derived not in annoying people, he looked like he would not hesitate to snap my neck, painfully slow.

Avoiding his gaze, I just stare at the ceiling blankly.

The dream still fresh and reliving that memory was gut wrenching.

“I'm talking to you.” He said again, the anger dripping from every word he spoke, and I immediately heard the other people in the room shuffling away, quietly.

They seemed to be so scared of him in this moment, and it piqued my curiosity because all he did was talk angrily.

“Leave me alone.” I said with my voice a little shaky, turning to look at him and immediately cleared my throat when I saw how he looked at me.

He was literally just very angry about a second ago and now he looked like he was worried about me.

I wondered for a bit whether he lost a few screws but soon realized that he was probably just annoyed that I didn't die.

Yeah, that makes more sense.

“Why are you trying to kill yourself?” He asks and I had to do a double take due to the tone of his voice as it sounded like he was genuinely concerned, but I was no fool.

I'm a commander from the tribe that he despises the most.

He knows that I have killed quite a number of his men.

I am a war hostage.

There is no reason why he should be concerned about me.

“If you want information about my pack, just ask for it. It's better for you to torture it out of me than pretend you're concerned.” I said to him, trying to stand up and remove the needles in my arm but the elbow that held me up, collapsed on me, and again, I was immediately enveloped again in his arms.

As soon as my brain registered that his skin touched mine, I immediately jump away from away from him like fire, taking him by surprise but he moved away.

While I understand that he was currently not trying to hurt me, I didn't want to be close to him or any other man.

I knew myself, and knew how easy it was for me to like the comfort his arms were providing.

If my love for a mate that I hadn’t even met yet didn't tell you, yeah that's me and I'll be damned if I I let anyone get to me like that again.

Breaking out of my thoughts, I see him move away from me and standing in the corner of the room.

He stood as still as a pole that was built into the room and just stared at me.

“You need to rest, I'll watch over you.” He said, folding his arms while still staring at me like a hawk.

“How can I possibly sleep when a tiger general is staring at me so intently. Who knows, you might just kill me in my sleep.” I said to him with a raised brow, obviously challenging him to banter with me, but he just sighed and walked towards the door which already made me smile because i thought i had annoyed him enough to leave me alone

“I mean, who would want to deal with that” I thought to myself, internally snickering, but my smile was once again wiped off my face by him doing the opposite.

Instead of walking out like I thought he would, he just pulled a chair and sat in front of me. Now, he was even closer than he was when he stood at the other side of the room.

“Sleep.”

Yewa's P.O.V Immediately we entered the room, I smelt the chains before I saw them and immediately started to fight to get out of his iron grip that was proving to actually be a prison without the gates."Let m-me go!" I groaned as I thrashed around in his hold. I hadn't even struggled for ten seconds when I heard her grunts of pain that immediately had me freezing my future attempts to escape him knowing very well his bear hold was impossible. Dahlia. As he dragged me to chain me to the bed, I barely had the time to register it as I could see out the windows by the bed I was currently chained to, that Dahlia was being whipped, mercilessly. “Ah!” She screamed again as the whip that had sharp ends clawed at her skin again. One look at her and anyone could tell that she had been beaten for a long time. Even the person flogging looked exhausted. “Eric wait!” I called out as he walked out after chaining me and dragging a tray of food close enough for me to eat. As I called, he stop

Yewa's P.O.V My heart screamed at me, my wolf was relentless, my body tired but I didn't stop. I ran through the tears and as if mother earth wanted to rub it in my face that I was losing to her again, the rain began to pour with a vengeance. Even with that, I didn't stop. ‘Please!’ Skylar yelled, trying to take over as she had been for the last hour, even though she knew very well just how much control I had over us. It didn't stop her. ‘People are dying and will continue to die because of me, if I stay there’ I continued to chant to myself as I bolted through the forest and the rain hitting me with a different force that caused pain. I was already tired and weak from the running and all the obstacles involved. From Skylar's unwillingness which caused more than half of the fatigue I felt, to the heavy rain that became painful whips as they dropped on my skin. Now, it was the cold. Yes, I am a wolf and we don't fall such but that doesn't mean we don't fell cold when it's extreme

Yewa’s P.O.V I was faced with the toughest decision I've had to make in a while. Stay here shielded like Eric wants, plus the risk of still being found out. If Dahlia could find us, that bloodthirsty alpha can. It was either this, or I just leave the scene totally but that would mean leaving the one man I love. The only person that has shielded, protected and loved me since the day I was born. My chest felt stuffy, but as stuffy as it felt, it also felt hot with pain. The pain of the decision I knew I would take before I even began to ponder. People were out there dying and even though it was not my fault, that madman would always use me as a reason to always start a war. He didn't care, had never cared about his people and their lives. All he cared about was his useless alpha pride, one that I knew would never stop for as long as he lived. The twin main options I had to pick from was either kill him which would mean suicide or to leave the realm like I did before but what wa

Yewa's P.O.V I had faced armies before.I had led them. But nothing, nothing prepared me for the feeling of being locked away while the world burned above my head. The walls around me were thick stone, etched with ancient tiger runes that shimmered faintly with protective magic. The safehouse lay deep beneath the main fortress, so far underground that even the earth seemed to hum with it. Two guards stood outside the steel-reinforced door, their spears crossed, their faces unreadable. It was supposed to be comforting. It wasn’t.I paced, my boots echoing across the cold floor. “How long has it been?” I snapped.Dylan, leaning lazily against the wall, didn’t bother to check the clock. “Forty-three minutes since the horns sounded. Seventeen since Eric last sent word through the link.”I froze mid-step. “And?”He looked at me with a half-smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “And he told me to keep you here. No matter what happens.”The words hit me like a blow.“Keep me here?” I repeated,

Eric's (General's) P.O.V“General.” Dahlia muttered, stepping closer. Her armor was streaked with soot, her eyes hard. “They’re here. Their alpha’s leading the charge himself.”“I expected no less,” I said, voice low. “He wouldn’t miss this chance.”Dylan appeared next, blades strapped to his back. “You sure you don’t want me at your side for this one?”“No,” I said. “Keep the east flank covered. They’ll try to cut through once the fight starts.”He hesitated. “Eric…”“That’s an order.”He grimaced, then nodded and ran off. When the last of my generals were gone, I stood still for a moment, staring into the field where the werewolves had begun to line up. My tiger instincts were restless under my skin, claws itching, eyes burning gold. And then, through the shifting mass of snarling wolves, I saw him.The Alpha.Large, scarred, arrogant. He stood on the opposite ridge, his silver hair gleaming under the half-light, his smirk visible even from here. Our eyes met.The ground seemed to s

Eric's (The General's) P.O.VThe moment the last echo of the werewolves’ retreat faded into the trees, I knew this wasn’t over. That skirmish was just a probe, a warning dressed as an attack. They would be back. And next time, they wouldn’t be testing our borders. They would be testing me.Killing my people. The fact that they sent only a few dozens ahead to plant fear at our borders was funny as we had been at war for as long as I can remember. So long that the reason for such death and unrest has long been blurred. The dawn was quiet now, deceptively calm, but I could feel the pulse of war in the air. The tribe’s defenses were already being fortified; my commanders barked orders across the grounds, and the soldiers scrambled to reset traps and reinforce walls. We could see them less than a few miles away, thousands of them marching so hard their boots could be heard from this far.But my focus wasn’t on them.It was on her.Yewa.The woman who, even now, refused to leave my side d
