The cab jerked to a stop at the curb, and I shoved a crumpled bill at the driver without waiting for change.

"Keep it," I muttered, already pushing the door open.

The bass hit me before I even reached the entrance—a low, thudding pulse leaking out through the walls of the building like the club itself was breathing. A line of people waited behind a velvet rope, but I slipped past the bouncers and the crowd alike, weaving through the chaos before anyone could stop me.

The air was thick, suffocating, and heavy with the expensive scents of vanilla perfume, burning incense and freshly extinguished cigar smoke. The main room was a labyrinth of dark shadows and flashing crimson neon lights.

Everywhere I looked, reality seemed to have dissolved. Wrapped in the dark corners of plush leather booths, couples were completely uninhibited—grinding against each other, shirts half-undone, hands wandering beneath skirts, lips locked in messy, breathless makeup sessions. It was an unhinged playground for the wealthy, and I felt completely naked just wearing my regular clothes.

"Come on, Skylar, pick up the damn phone," I hissed, pressing my mobile tightly against my ear as I shoved my way past a sweaty, laughing crowd.

"The subscriber you are trying to reach is currently switched off or out of coverage area…"

"Great. Fantastic. Perfect," I muttered, ripping the phone away from my ear. The battery must have died right after she called me. I was officially stranded in the belly of the beast, looking for a chaotic blonde in a sea of masked, grinding bodies.

I turned a corner near a heavily guarded velvet rope, trying to peer into the exclusive inner lounge.

Suddenly, a manicured hand with long, sharp acrylic nails clamped onto my upper arm like a vice.

"Well, thank the lord! Where on earth have you been, girl? Do you know what time it is?"

I whirled around and standing in front of me was a towering, curvaceous woman draped in a loud, sparkling leopard-print jumpsuit. Her hair was a massive, gravity-defying beehive of neon blue curls, and her lips were painted a blinding shade of metallic purple.

"Excuse me? I think you have the wrong—"

"Save the excuses, honey!" she barked, her voice a theatrical, raspy boom that completely drowned out my protest. "I don't pay for lateness, I pay for perfection! I am Madame Sugarplum, and if my girls flop on opening night, nobody gets tips! Move your assets, darling, the VIPs are waiting!"

Before I could even open my mouth to explain that I was looking for my friend and definitely wasn't on her payroll, Madame Sugarplum physically dragged me through a hidden mirrored door and shoved me straight into the chaotic madness of the dancers' dressing room.

The room was a hurricane of flying glitter, hairspray, and bare flesh. Half-naked women were rushing around in various stages of undress, snapping g-strings and adjusting lace.

"Wait, listen to me, I am not a—"

"Oh, hush up and strip!" Madame Sugarplum interrupted, throwing a tiny hanger into my chest. "The theme tonight is 'Siren's Captive,' and you are going to be the main event. Look at those hips! Look at that waist!"

She stepped closer, her sharp eyes scanning my body with professional intensity. She reached out, her fingers giving a firm, sudden squeeze to my hips, making me gasp. "Good lord, honey. You are packing real wealth back here. The assets are asset-ing! Natural, firm, and absolutely lethal. The men out there are going to lose their collective minds."

My cheeks exploded into a furious, burning blush. No one had ever spoken about my body like that. Ethan had spent two years treating my body like an awkward chore, completely ignoring the curves I hid under my professional slacks. To hear this wild woman boast about my shape sent a strange, intoxicating rush of pride straight to my head.

"But Madame Sugarplum, I really can't—"

"You can and you will, or I'll have my guards toss you out on your beautiful behind without your purse!" she threatened, though a dramatic wink cut through her harsh words. "Now put the silk on. Five minutes!"

I looked down at the hanger in my hands. It wasn't a dress. It was a scandal. A micro-mini, backless slip made of sheer, midnight-blue silk that barely covered the essentials. It was held together by thin, rhinestone straps that crossed dangerously low over my lower back, leaving my skin completely bare.

I looked at the door. I thought about going home to my empty apartment, crying over Ethan Smith and his boyfriend Clifford.

I thought about the insult calling me 'a chore' in bed.

A dark, unhinged flip switched in my brain. You want dreadful, Ethan? Watch this.

Five minutes later, I stepped out of the changing stall. The other dancers instantly went completely silent, their eyes burning holes into my skin with pure, unadulterated jealousy.

"Oh, honey," Madame Sugarplum gasped, clapping her hands together. "You are an absolute weapon. Now get out there on that VIP stage and do not flop! Eyes on the prize, girls. Let's go!"

My heart was hammering a violent, terrifying rhythm against my ribs as we were marched out onto the elevated glass stage of the private VIP lounge. The lighting here was entirely low-key—deep crimson and purple hues that cast seductive shadows across the room. Sitting in the plush leather booths below were the city's true big shots.

Multi-billionaires, politicians, and underground kings, all hiding behind high-end drinks.

When the bass dropped, the other girls instantly slipped into a slow, professional grind. I froze for a fraction of a second, my hands trembling. Madame Sugarplum eyed me like a hawk from the wings, throwing me a warning glare that said 'move or die.'

I swallowed hard, closed my eyes, and let the music take over. I had never danced like this in my life. But every ounce of hot rage, every bit of humiliation from walking into Ethan's bedroom, fueled my movements. I arched my back, letting my hands slide down the bare skin of my waist, my hips swaying to the heavy, pulsing rhythm. The sheer silk slid against my skin, molding to every curve.

When I opened my eyes, the atmosphere in the room had shifted completely.

The men weren't looking at the other girls anymore. Every single eye in the VIP lounge was glued to me. Low groans and appreciative whistles echoed through the dark. I could see wealthy men leaning forward, their eyes dark with raw, possessive hunger as they watched my spine curve and my hips move.

The moment the music faded, I didn't wait around for the applause. Breathless and flushed with adrenaline, I turned on my heel and practically ran off the stage toward the locker room.

"Hold on there, starlet!" Madame Sugarplum intercepted me, a massive, greedy grin on her metallic purple lips. She held up a thick stack of crisp hundred-dollar bills. "One of the high rollers in private suite four just paid five thousand dollars just to have a single drink with you."

"No," I said immediately, shaking my head as my heart raced. "I can't. I did the dance, but I'm not doing that. I need to leave."

"Oh, why must you be so difficult, darling?" Madame Sugarplum groaned, rolling her eyes dramatically as she shoved the cash into my hand. "It is literally just a drink! Five minutes of sitting on a leather sofa, sipping champagne, and you walk away with enough money to pay your rent for three months. Don't be a fool."

I looked at the stack of dollars. Five thousand bucks. For a drink. I sighed heavily, my defensive walls cracking under the sheer weight of the financial relief. It's just a drink, I told myself. What harm could a single glass of champagne do?

Behind me, the other dancers glared at me, whispering venomous insults about how the 'new girl' was stealing the best clients.

"Look at her pretending to be innocent," a tall brunette hissed, loudly snapping her lace g-string against her hip. "She probably works a desk job by day and hooks by night."

"Five grand for five minutes?" another sneered, blowing a cloud of harsh vape smoke directly into my face. "Madame Sugarplum is losing her mind. I've been here a year and never got that kind of tip."

Just ignore them, Daniela, I thought, my knuckles turning white against the cash. They don't know about Ethan. They don't know I'm desperate.

"Fine," I muttered, tightening my grip on the silk dress. "Just one drink."

Madame Sugarplum patted my cheek affectionately. "That's my good girl. Suite four. Don't keep him waiting."

Daniela"Miss Coleman."(...)"Miss Coleman."(...)"MISS COLEMAN!"I snapped back from my daydream, my face heating up instantly as I met the freezing, furious glare of my boss sitting in the swivel chair."Y-Yes, sir? I'm sorry," I stammered."I would greatly appreciate it if your attention remained inside this corporate building, Miss Coleman, instead of wherever it currently is wandering."What an unmitigated jerk, I thought. He was looking directly at me, his icy blue gaze locked squarely onto my face. His eyes didn't drop a single millimeter to look at the massive, gleaming red ruby dangling right in front of his face—the one I had purposely worn to work as Skylar suggested. Yet he didn't show a single hint of recognition, amusement, or guilt. He just looked thoroughly annoyed by my lack of focus. Was he seriously going to pretend he hadn't sent a luxury stalker parcel to my apartment last night?"I apologize, Mr. Gibson," I said, forcing my voice icy and professional. "It won't

DanielaI frowned, checking the clock on the wall. It was nearly 8:00 PM. Skylar had explicitly said she would be home late, so it couldn't be her.I walked over to the entryway and opened the door to find a delivery man standing under the hallway light. He handed me a sleek, expensive-looking parcel wrapped in thick, matte-black paper.I checked the package, searching for a name, but my brow furrowed. "There's no recipient name on this. Only the apartment address.""I didn't order anything," I told him, trying to hand it back."This is the exact address provided for the delivery, ma'am," he confirmed simply and left.I locked the door and looked at the parcel suspiciously. It looked incredibly high-end and heavy. Since I didn't recognize it and Skylar wasn't home, I left the parcel unopened on the counter and went to bed....The shrill blare of my alarm sliced through the quiet bedroom at exactly 6:07 AM. I groaned, reaching blindly for the nightstand to kill the noise.I sat up, ru

Daniela"Excuse us, Miss Coleman," Kenneth Gibson said, his voice cold.I stood paralyzed by the edge of the mahogany desk, still processing the news that he has a fiancée. Like what the heck?! When? And How?Suddenly a sharp venomous voice brought me back from my thoughts. It was Sophie."Are you deaf?" She snapped, her tone arrogant. "He told you to leave."I hated it when people disrespected me, especially taking it from my own gender. Before my brain processed my words I said, "I hear perfectly fine, ma'am. But as Mr. Gibson's executive assistant, I take my directives from him, not his visitors."Sophie's eyes widened as she whirled around to face Kenneth, her face flushing with absolute fury. "Kenneth! Are you seriously going to let that 'nobody' speak to me like that? Fire her. Right now!"Shit! I should have controlled my mouth.Aunt Stella's face flashed vividly in my mind. I couldn't lose this job."Mr. Gibson, I apologize," I blurted out quickly, stepping forward to explain

The next day, work was hectic. From the moment I stepped onto the executive floor, the pace was relentless. Kenneth Gibson's schedule was a tightly packed minefield of consecutive investor calls, urgent international documents, and back-to-back briefings. I spent the entire morning moving on pure adrenaline, logging tasks and handling data files without a single moment to catch my breath. By midday, my body finally went on strike. My stomach let out an empty, demanding growl, reminding me that I was completely starving.Desperate for a break, I left my desk and navigated the corporate hallways until I finally located the company cafeteria. The space was enormous, designed more like a high-end restaurant than a standard office lunchroom. Flooded with natural light from massive windows, it hummed with the noise of hundreds of employees eating and moving between food stations. I grabbed a hot meal, found a small, empty table near the corner, and sat down. The first spoonful of food was p

Daniela"Time is up, Miss Coleman. Bring the audited files into my office immediately."Mr. Gibson's voice barked the moment I answered the intercom. The coldness in it was jarring, and so different from the warmth I remembered from the night before."Yes, s—"He cut the line.I stared at the console in disbelief, a bitter scowl twisting my lips. What an arrogant prick!I had been hunched over my monitors for almost five straight hours, and my body felt numb with exhaustion. My stomach ached with hunger. Because of his impossible deadline, I hadn't even been able to step away for lunch. Meanwhile, he had sailed out hours ago for a lavish lunch, completely indifferent.I gathered the heavy 200-page archive against my chest and stood, my knees trembling. As I walked toward his office, my mind drifted back to the dark penthouse bedroom.Did my reckless one-night stand truly not remember me? He'd had his hands wrapped around my jaw, his cock buried inside mine just hours ago. Had he forgo

Kenneth "It was not included in your portfolio, Miss Coleman, that you were a mute. Why the hell are you not speaking?" My voice was flat, cutting through the silence of the room like a blade. I didn't care to hide the sudden irritation bleeding into my tone. I kept my eyes locked onto her face, the digital timer ticking away in the upper corner of my active laptop screen. One minute and forty-three seconds. That was exactly how long my new personal assistant had been standing in the center of my office since I raised my head, completely static, gazing at me like a statue. I had deliberately ignored her entrance at first to assert a proper corporate boundary, but this performance was ridiculous. I expected her to stumble through some pathetic, rehearsed excuse about transit, or perhaps blame the ground floor security lines. Instead, she took a shaky step closer to my mahogany desk, her chest heaving underneath her rumpled blazer as she blurted out an entirely unhinged question. "
