Wednesday, 9:00 AM.

On the second floor of the Del Carmen headquarters in Batangas, the air inside the boardroom was quiet but heavy. The long narra table gleamed under the soft ceiling lights, surrounded by eleven high-backed leather chairs. At each seat was a nameplate, an agenda folder, bottled water, and a tablet for the digital presentation.

Along the side of the room, floor-to-ceiling glass windows framed the manicured garden outside — calm and green, but not enough to ease the tension inside.

Mr. Ponce Natividad, the acting CEO, sat at the center, composed but clearly deep in thought. Mr. Domingo — senior board member — was silent, but his gaze was sharp.

Ainara sat quietly beside her mother. Jaime was also present.

The other board members, investors, and advisors — all senior, all opinionated.

First item on the agenda: Business updates. Jaime presented the progress of the Eco-Industrial Park in Laguna, Del Carmen’s new flagship project. The focus was on sustainable manufacturi

Andres woke up early the next day. The whole house was quiet, with only the chirping of birds outside breaking the silence. He stepped out of his room and ran into the maid in the hallway, who looked startled to see him.“Sir, you’re already awake?” she asked, slightly nervous.“Coffee, please,” he replied shortly. The maid quickly hurried off, and moments later, a hot cup of coffee was served in the estate office.Andres was already dressed in jeans and a polo shirt. He paired it with loafers and sat in front of his laptop. He had two extra monitors beside him. The surroundings were quiet, but on the screen, a flood of emails greeted him. He opened his inbox—messages from the Manila office, contracts, bidding updates, names that seemed familiar but made no sense to him.The more he read, the more his head throbbed. He couldn’t understand any of it. It was like trying to piece together a puzzle with mismatched pieces.Andres sighed and opened the calendar. There he saw past schedules—

Ainara stepped out of the room, carrying the weight of every word she had spoken. The hospital corridor felt suffocating, each step heavy. When she reached the cafeteria, she immediately bought a cup of coffee, hoping its warmth would ease the cold that had settled in her chest. She sat in a corner, holding the cup, but her mind was still in the room. Treasure for trash. She knew her words had been sharp, but she couldn’t let Isabella’s provocation slide.Meanwhile, Andres and Isabella remained in the room. Andres was silent, staring at the food tray. Mateo’s name still echoed in his mind, like a wound he couldn’t explain.Isabella, smiling, tried to break the silence. “Don’t mind Ainara. She’s always been… too serious. I just want us to be happy again, Andres.”Andres looked at her, his voice still cold. “You talk too much about the past.”Isabella fell quiet for a moment, then smiled again. “Because the past is proof of what we had. And I believe we can have it again.”As she sipped

Ainara was clearing away Andres’s breakfast—the bowl of chocolate rice porridge he barely touched, the spoon that was hardly used. She placed them carefully on the tray, trying to show tenderness and patience. The television was on in the background, tuned to CNN. The news showed footage of the airport in New York. The people, the lines, the departure gates—all familiar sights.Andres glanced at the screen, his eyes cold, but his brow twitched slightly. It was as if a memory knocked at the back of his mind.He fell silent for a moment, then spoke softly, his voice low. “When did you come back here?”Ainara’s lips parted in surprise.“Did we come back to the Philippines together for the engagement party?”Ainara froze, still holding the tray. The question struck her like lightning—a piece of the past she had longed to return. She forced a smile, her tone careful. “Yes, Andres. We came back together. We were on the same flight.”Andres frowned, as if trying to grasp the image in his min

The hospital room was dim, the steady hum of machines filling the silence. Andres sat propped against the pillows, his face pale but his eyes sharp, colder than anyone remembered. Jaime stood nearby, his voice low, recounting fragments of what had happened since New York.“You knew about the plan,” Jaime said carefully. “That’s why you went to the airport—to fly back for the engagement party. You remember that, don’t you?”Andres’ brows furrowed, his jaw tightening. “Yes. I remember. You and Aunt Celia… you were going to marry. That’s why I came home.” His tone was clipped, almost biting. “But beyond that… nothing. The airport is the last clear thing I have.”Jaime’s chest tightened. He wanted to tell him more, but the doctor’s warning echoed in his mind. The doctor entered quietly, sensing the tension. He checked Andres’ vitals, then looked at Jaime with a firm expression.“Mr. Bernardino,” he said, “I must advise caution. Do not overwhelm him with too much information at once. His m

The hospital room was heavy with silence after the doctor’s explanation. Andres lay weak but awake, his eyes clouded with fragments of memory. Jaime stood at the foot of the bed, his face carved with worry.“Celia,” he said quietly, his tone firm but gentle, “take Ainara home. I need time alone with my son.”Celia hesitated, glancing at Andres, then at Ainara, who stood apart, her arms folded tightly across her chest. Ainara’s eyes flickered with pain, but she gave a small nod. She knew Andres did not remember her as she wished, and her presence only deepened the confusion.Santino stepped forward, his voice low. “I’ll go see Julie. I’ll check in later.” He gave Ainara a look of sympathy before leaving the room.Celia touched Jaime’s arm briefly, then guided Ainara out of the hospital.** The house was quiet when they arrived. Celia moved with practiced calm, setting a kettle on the stove. The soft hiss of boiling water filled the silence. Ainara sat at the edge of the sofa, her post

“Isabella, you’re here.”It was as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over Ainara. She couldn’t believe what she had just heard. Her smile slowly faded, replaced by shock and pain.Santino, standing to the side, was frozen in place. “Dios mio…” he whispered, stunned by the situation.Isabella was also caught off guard. She hadn’t expected Andres to call her name upon waking. But before she could say anything, Ainara moved quickly.“Enough,” Ainara said firmly, her voice trembling with anger and jealousy. “This is family business. Isabella, please leave. Now.”Isabella opened her mouth, as if to protest, but the fire in Ainara’s eyes silenced her. With heavy steps, she walked to the door, burdened by an emotion she couldn’t quite name.As soon as Isabella left, Ainara turned to Santino. “Call Uncle Jaime. Call Mom. Tell them Andres is awake. They need to be here.”Santino hesitated, still shaken. “Sis—” “Do it!” she shouted, her voice nearly breaking. “Now!”Santino pulled out
