Moon goddess

Moon goddess:

“What do you mean by I don’t wanna?”

“I’m saying I don’t want to go”

Layla tries her best to persuade me but I just don’t feel like doing anything

“Please, I promise it’ll be fun”

“Leave me alone, Layla!”

I bury my head in my pillow and scream while kicking my legs against the bed

“Would you calm down?”

“Now you’re just being dramatic about it?”

“It hurts so much, Layla. It really does”

“I know it does and I’m sorry my brother acted like such an asshole to you”

“I really don’t feel like going out tomorrow, please”

Layla pauses for a moment, she doesn’t try to persuade me any further.

“I understand, I’m sorry I sounded so selfish before”

“It’s okay, I understand that you were just trying to make me happy”

“Will you be okay?”

“I’ll be fine”

“Pinky swear?”

“We’re not kids anymore, Layla”

I feel reluctant but when I sit up and look at her face, I can’t help but do it. I intertwine my pinky finger with hers and promise.

“I promise I’ll be fine, you don’t have to worry about me”

“Okay”

“She gives me a warm smile and gets off the bed”

“It’s getting really late, I have to go now”

“Do you really have to?”

“I do, you should rest; if I stay we’ll just end up gossiping the whole night”

I let out a slight laugh

“I think I know what you mean, but still; I want you to stay. Please stay”

I hold on to her leg and make a pleading face, she but silent; staring at me for a while before she speaks

“What am I going to do with you”

We start laughing. I walk up to the wardrobe and grab a bedsheet for her to place on my other bed. Layla and I each have two beds in our rooms for the sake of sleep overs. We were inseparable when we were younger.

“Ruby, we haven’t really had a proper conversation since you got back”

“That’s true, it’s my fault.”

“I missed you so much, you know; so much. I kept waiting for the day you’d return to see your friend.”

I felt touched by her words because I really missed her too

“I’m sorry I made you wait so long, come here.”

I spread my arms to hug her and she embraces me tightly

“Don’t ever leave me like that again, I felt so lonely.”

“I promise I won’t ever do that again.”

“We finish putting up the sheets. I then take off my heels and slip out of the beautiful red dress that caused me so much drama today”

“Ruby, you’re so curvy; I’m jealous”

“Are you kidding? You’re so beautiful, I’ve always admired your looks”

Layla laughs and looks at me in disbelief.

“Stop lying, Ruby”

“I swear I’m not, I genuinely mean it”

“Tha- thank you”

Her pale face turns red, Layla has always been a sucker for compliments so I make sure to compliment her a lot

“I’ll be right back, I should shower”

“I’ll make us some coffee in the mean time”

“I’d really appreciate that”

I get in the bathroom and turn the water heater on, I wait a bit before turning the shower on. Completely motionless, I stand as the water drips down my skin.

The thoughts of how things went at the party replays in my head and I start crying again. I try to stopped the tears but I just fall to my knees and continue weeping.

“Why? I made myself better for you all this years, I sought after your approval; I wanted acceptance from you so why are you doing the complete opposite?”

My door makes a noise suggesting that it’s being pushed open; when I turn, my eyes meet Layla’s eyes

“I figured you were still crying, come on”

Layla wears a sympathetic look on her face as she comes in and wraps me with a warm towel after turning off the shower

“Were you seriously going to cry all night? You promised you’d be fine, I haven’t even left and you’re crying your eyes out”

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I apologize. I don’t know why it hurts so much; I need help”

She looks at me and takes a deep sigh.

“I’ll be back, I should bring us the coffee. Your PJs are on your bed”

She leaves the bathroom and exits the room.

Shortly after she leaves, I dry off my body and step out of the bathroom.

I put on the clothes Layla left on the bed and sit in wait for her.

She re-enters the room with a small tray containing two coffee mugs

“I do hope you’re feeling better?”

“I’m feeling way better”

Managing to use my faint voice, I reply her.

Layla sits on the bed opposite mine and hands me and cup of coffee.

“Thank you”

“It’s nothing”

“So tell me, how was life away from home?”

Clearly she is trying to change the subject in order to prevent my sadness.

“Life away from home; it was mostly tough for me. I had a lot of stuff to get used to, it took a while.”

“Did you miss home?”

“I can’t really say I missed this place; however, I missed the people here. How was your life in my absence, Layla?”

“My life was normal, felt empty because-“

“Maybe because you didn’t become my brother’s mate?”

I see shock on her face, she must have thought her feelings for my brother were unnoticeable.

“You’ve always been really observant”

“What are you talking about? We all noticed it when you both were younger. Too bad that the moon goddess chose to be cruel to you both”

She immediately covered her face with both her hands, trying to conceal it’s bright red color.

“I’m going to sleep, stop talking.”

She puts the

cup away and gets in her bed, turning her face away from me in embarrassment.
