Moon goddess:
“What do you mean by I don’t wanna?”
“I’m saying I don’t want to go”
Layla tries her best to persuade me but I just don’t feel like doing anything
“Please, I promise it’ll be fun”
“Leave me alone, Layla!”
I bury my head in my pillow and scream while kicking my legs against the bed
“Would you calm down?”
“Now you’re just being dramatic about it?”
“It hurts so much, Layla. It really does”
“I know it does and I’m sorry my brother acted like such an asshole to you”
“I really don’t feel like going out tomorrow, please”
Layla pauses for a moment, she doesn’t try to persuade me any further.
“I understand, I’m sorry I sounded so selfish before”
“It’s okay, I understand that you were just trying to make me happy”
“Will you be okay?”
“I’ll be fine”
“Pinky swear?”
“We’re not kids anymore, Layla”
I feel reluctant but when I sit up and look at her face, I can’t help but do it. I intertwine my pinky finger with hers and promise.
“I promise I’ll be fine, you don’t have to worry about me”
“Okay”
“She gives me a warm smile and gets off the bed”
“It’s getting really late, I have to go now”
“Do you really have to?”
“I do, you should rest; if I stay we’ll just end up gossiping the whole night”
I let out a slight laugh
“I think I know what you mean, but still; I want you to stay. Please stay”
I hold on to her leg and make a pleading face, she but silent; staring at me for a while before she speaks
“What am I going to do with you”
We start laughing. I walk up to the wardrobe and grab a bedsheet for her to place on my other bed. Layla and I each have two beds in our rooms for the sake of sleep overs. We were inseparable when we were younger.
“Ruby, we haven’t really had a proper conversation since you got back”
“That’s true, it’s my fault.”
“I missed you so much, you know; so much. I kept waiting for the day you’d return to see your friend.”
I felt touched by her words because I really missed her too
“I’m sorry I made you wait so long, come here.”
I spread my arms to hug her and she embraces me tightly
“Don’t ever leave me like that again, I felt so lonely.”
“I promise I won’t ever do that again.”
“We finish putting up the sheets. I then take off my heels and slip out of the beautiful red dress that caused me so much drama today”
“Ruby, you’re so curvy; I’m jealous”
“Are you kidding? You’re so beautiful, I’ve always admired your looks”
Layla laughs and looks at me in disbelief.
“Stop lying, Ruby”
“I swear I’m not, I genuinely mean it”
“Tha- thank you”
Her pale face turns red, Layla has always been a sucker for compliments so I make sure to compliment her a lot
“I’ll be right back, I should shower”
“I’ll make us some coffee in the mean time”
“I’d really appreciate that”
I get in the bathroom and turn the water heater on, I wait a bit before turning the shower on. Completely motionless, I stand as the water drips down my skin.
The thoughts of how things went at the party replays in my head and I start crying again. I try to stopped the tears but I just fall to my knees and continue weeping.
“Why? I made myself better for you all this years, I sought after your approval; I wanted acceptance from you so why are you doing the complete opposite?”
My door makes a noise suggesting that it’s being pushed open; when I turn, my eyes meet Layla’s eyes
“I figured you were still crying, come on”
Layla wears a sympathetic look on her face as she comes in and wraps me with a warm towel after turning off the shower
“Were you seriously going to cry all night? You promised you’d be fine, I haven’t even left and you’re crying your eyes out”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I apologize. I don’t know why it hurts so much; I need help”
She looks at me and takes a deep sigh.
“I’ll be back, I should bring us the coffee. Your PJs are on your bed”
She leaves the bathroom and exits the room.
Shortly after she leaves, I dry off my body and step out of the bathroom.
I put on the clothes Layla left on the bed and sit in wait for her.
She re-enters the room with a small tray containing two coffee mugs
“I do hope you’re feeling better?”
“I’m feeling way better”
Managing to use my faint voice, I reply her.
Layla sits on the bed opposite mine and hands me and cup of coffee.
“Thank you”
“It’s nothing”
“So tell me, how was life away from home?”
Clearly she is trying to change the subject in order to prevent my sadness.
“Life away from home; it was mostly tough for me. I had a lot of stuff to get used to, it took a while.”
“Did you miss home?”
“I can’t really say I missed this place; however, I missed the people here. How was your life in my absence, Layla?”
“My life was normal, felt empty because-“
“Maybe because you didn’t become my brother’s mate?”
I see shock on her face, she must have thought her feelings for my brother were unnoticeable.
“You’ve always been really observant”
“What are you talking about? We all noticed it when you both were younger. Too bad that the moon goddess chose to be cruel to you both”
She immediately covered her face with both her hands, trying to conceal it’s bright red color.
“I’m going to sleep, stop talking.”
She puts the
cup away and gets in her bed, turning her face away from me in embarrassment.
Logan:I hear the sounds of birds singing, that’s something I haven’t heard in a really long time. Bright light graces the room from the windows, it’s morning.Layla is already wide awake making her bed, as she hums along to the birds.“It’s been a while since I had something like this; you know”“Having a sleepover?”“No, waking up to peace and the sound of birds singing”“Why though? You like quiet places, your house wasn’t like that?”“Not really, the city I schooled at was always rowdy and noisy. Large cars passing by the second and the sound of street music”“I see, well; you must be glad to be home”“I am, I really am. I just had a shitty day yesterday but I’m going to put all that behind me and enjoy my time here”“I’m glad to hear that”“So….. I should get home”“Aren’t you gonna stay for breakfast?”“I don’t really think I should”“Because of that stuff I said yesterday? I’m really sorry”“What are you talking about?”“I’m apologizing for upsetting you last night”“I’m not up
The Phone Rings:I exit the mall with Logan. He opens the door of his car for me and closes it after I get in.“You’re such a gentleman, Thank you”“I try to be”He laughs nervously and gets in the car. While he drives, my mind spaces out to the previous night. I keep thinking about how he asked me to be his mate, despite knowing that I got rejected by my mate.“Do you think it’s coincidental that we ran into each other?”The sound of his voice brings me out of my thinking.“I do, what else is it if not coincidence?”“Fate? I believe that nothing is random, everything that happens is supposed to happen”“Is that so? Interesting”The car pulls up to a small café not too far from the mall. He turns around to open the door for me again and I oblige.“Thank you”“It’s nothing”Logan’s smile is warm, whenever he smiles at me, my heart skipsHe opens the door of the café and gestures for me to go in, I go in and he follows right behind me.The café is a small and pretty place; the whole bui
The Box:I was enshrouded in disbelief as I saw the number calling my phone.I wondered what he could want, this is a number I haven’t seen in five years. I didn’t know what to do whether to pick up or just smash the phone into the wall.At last I summoned the courage to pick up the phone. I held the phone up to my ear in total silence waiting for him to say the first word.“Hello, Ruby. I’m guessing you’re surprised.”“What could you possibly want from me, do you derive joy in seeing me cry. how did you get my number?”“That doesn’t matter, aren’t you going to ask why I called?”“The reason you call doesn’t matter as well, I want nothing to do with you.”“I saw you earlier today, you know” “Saw me? what are you talking about?”My heart boils with rage as I hear him talk over the phone, the voice that caused me so much pain was having a conversation with me.“I saw you with that guy at the caf锓Are you stalking me? what do you want?”“You belong to me”“Like hell I do, stop playing
Mason:Morning comes and I’m all Packed to go. Mason comes into my room to help me move my stuff to the car. we move very discreetly so we don’t wake others. “You’re sure you’ve made-up your mind about this?”“I’m sure brother, it’s something I have to do.”“so you are going to disappear fully this time?”“that's the plan” “I suppose you’ll be changing your numbers and your phones” “I will I don’t want anybody to be able to track me” “And I suppose you won’t give me your new number” “I’d love to brother, but if I do that then mum and dad will definitely know my whereabouts.” “I can’t say I agree with this, he just got back, it hasn’t been one week and you’re leaving again.”“I’m sorry, I have to put my mental health first.”I stand next to Mason’s car as he lifts my luggage and puts them into the trunk.“You sure you packed everything?” “I took the important things I might need” “Why does the luggage seem so light?”“Honestly, I didn’t take much with me. I’ll kill every memor
Picnic:How did he managed to figure me out so quickly?“So you are stalking me? I knew it”He laughs lightly and looks down at my luggage.“Relax, I’m not stalking anybody. It’s pretty obvious.”“No it isn’t, I’m dressed very casually”“That’s one point, you wouldn’t be going on a trip or vacation with all that luggage.”“That doesn’t prove anything, you are making no sense”“Am I now? Where’s your best friend then, Layla is her name right?”“She has things to do, she’s a busy person”“Still, you too seem close, she wouldn’t let you travel without seeing you off”I was left speechless by his deduction. He caught me red handed.“So Ruby, where are you headed?”“I actually don’t know that yet”“Do you want to sit and talk maybe?”“You had a business meeting no?””I do but my flight doesn’t take off till 8:00.”“I see, well.. I’m hurt”“Did I say something I shouldn’t have yesterday?”“It’s not you; I just feel like every time I make an effort to heal, something just comes along and rui
Alpha Logan:Alpha Logan leaves to catch up with his flight. After sitting at the airport shortly, trying to understand what happened between me and Logan; I go home.On getting home, I see everyone at the living room. My dad consoles my mom we cries uncontrollably. Mason sits on the couch with both hands buried in his hair and Clara rubs his shoulder.“Hi, everyone. Surprise?”As soon as my mom sees me, she runs to me and embraces me.“My baby, you were going to leave your family again weren’t you? And this time you weren’t going to let anyone contact you”“I’m sorry mom, I’m sorry I just…”Tears decorates my face and leaves me unable to sleep. My dad sighs in relief and smiles at me.After some minutes of tearful embraces, Mason helps me take my bags back to the bedroom. He stands by my door and leans against the frame.“What made you change your mind?”“Well, I don’t really know. Let’s say I ran into an angel.”“Angel huh? I’m curious. Layla stopped you?”He smiles deviously.“Not
The baby:The new parents bring their baby back home, Marcus, Layla and I Make arrangements for the baby shower in seven days.As Clara and enters the house with the baby in her arms, I rush to embrace my brother and congratulate him on becoming a father, I also congratulate Clara.“Mason! You’re a father now! I’m so happy!”He chuckles.“Stop yelling so much, you’re an aunt now, you’ve got to be a bit more quiet”“Oh, I’m sorry about that, congratulations, brother.”I whisper and giggle. The house is filled with friends of the new parents and Mason has a lot to attend to so I help Clara upstairs to her room“She’s soo cute, can I hold her?”“Sure, of course.”“Carefully she hands the baby to me as we walk upstairs.”“It’s a he”“What?”“You have a nephew, not a niece.”I marvel at her words as I stare at her with eyes wide open.“You mean…”“Yes, in a few years our pack will have an alpha candidate to take over the Reid pack.”“I can’t believe this, he’s not beta blood?”“He’s not, w
Kissed:“Logan!”“Surprised to see me?”“I just…. Didn’t know you were back.”“I told you I’d be back soon didn’t I?”“I don’t remember you saying so, I’m just surprised.”I stare at him in amazement, the way my heart feels is something I am unable to understand.“You’re just gonna stand there like that?”“Oh? Forgive my rudeness, please come in.”“That’s not what I meant, did you not miss me?”“Miss you? I don’t think I did.”In actuality, I missed him very much and I try to cover up my feelings by smiling nervously.“You’re mean”“Because I didn’t miss you?”With fast movements, he plants a kiss on my cheek.“How about now?”My face and body feels hot but I try to deny it.“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Alpha Logan.”“Okay then, aren’t you going to let me in?”Please come in, I’m sure my brother would be surprised to see you.“Not really, he called me.”“Is that why you’re here?”“Partly, there’s another reason.”“What other reason is there?”“I’m looking at her”He stares
