Mr. Reid

Mr. Reid

My parents never knew the details of what happened between me and Logan, they thought we just had a quarrel before I left for America five years ago.

I was trying to keep it that way, I didn’t want the drama to escalate. My parents had asked me several times about why I don’t have a mate and I’ve been telling them that the right person hasn’t come.

I had to pretend in front of everyone to make sure that drama didn’t take place.

“Hello, it’s been a while, Alpha.”

“It’s really been a while, you’ve changed a lot.”

I descend the staircase and walk towards him.

“How have you been?”

“Good, I’m in excellent health.”

“I’m glad to hear that. How ARE you?”

“I’m good, spent a few years studying in America.”

“I see, why’d you suddenly chose to come back?”

“You didn’t miss me?”

“I didn’t, but I can’t say I didn’t think about you”

The whole time, I wear a bitter smile on my face as he spouts his rubbish.

“You thought about me? I’m flattered.”

Layla who stands beside me, could tell from my reaction that I was reaching my breaking point.

“Hi brother, what brings you here?”

She cuts into the conversation

“I came to give congratulations to my old friend as he journeys into fatherhood.”

“Aww, that’s sweet. You should have just called him though. I’m sure you have a really busy schedule.”

“I don’t mind taking out time to celebrate with my old friend.”

“ see, but still….”

“I notice that Layla is getting heated so I pinch her arm subtly.”

“Layla, I’m gonna need your help in the kitchen.”

“No, please Ruby; take care of the guest.”

Mason says as he follows my mom into the kitchen to help her.

“Tch”

As everyone turns their attention to other things, the alpha approaches me and whispers in my ear.

“Why didn’t you come? We need to talk.”

“There’s nothing we need to talk about.”

“Oh trust me there’s a lot to talk about.”

“I’m not interested in anything you have to say, could you please leave me the fuck alone?”

“I will not have you talk to me in that manner.”

“Ruby, is this man bothering you?”

Logan from nowhere, stands behind me and stares at him intensely.

“Who are you supposed to be? I’m talking to Ruby, could you please excuse us?”

“I don’t think I will. Ruby isn’t complaining so I’m staying right here. Clearly she is uncomfortable so back off!”

“Ruby dear, do you know this man? Could you tell him to excuse us?”

“Why should he excuse us? I want him right here.”

I feel scared at first but when Logan stands behind me, I become bold.

“Alpha Logan, that’s your name right?”

“You act like you’ve forgotten me”

“How could I forgot the weak loser who I once beat half to death?”

“We were kids, I’d like to see you try now.”

Logan clenches his fist tightly and his body boils with rage.

“Hiding behind a woman, you’re still the same man you’ve always been. A weak little coward.”

He laughs, this makes Logan’s annoyance to reaches the limit and he gets in front of me and pushes me gently.

“Do not get involved, Ruby. I’ll have to apologize to you after now.”

“You have the balls to repeat what you just said?”

“All I’m trying to say is that you’ve always been a weak coward and you’ll always be.”

Logan dives him immediately, he mounts the alpha and locks down his hands with both knees; after that, Logan starts landing punches on his face.

Layla’s brother manages to kick Logan off and kicks him again into the living room.

The commotion escalates and everyone comes out to the living room.

“What’s going on?!”

My dad yells as he comes out to the living room. Mason and my mom as well comes out to access the situation.

The two men continue fighting and smashing each other into our furniture.

Unable to speak, I stand completely frozen as they trash my living room.

Layla screams at her brother.

“Get out! You had to bring your drama and misfortune here.”

The alpha gains the upper hand and starts beating Logan to a bloody pulp. I fall on my knees with tears in my eyes, totally clueless as to what action I should take.

A little sound can be heard coming from the new mother’s arms; due to the noise and chaos, the baby starts crying and they stop fighting.

After the two men get on their feet, my whole family starts blaming Logan for the fight without knowing the premise.

“You come over to our house for the very first time and this is what you do?”

My dad blames Logan and this gets me upset.

“Dad! There’s no way you’re yelling at him. He didn’t do anything wrong. It’s all this man’s fucking fault!”

“Layla, you will not use such vulgar words in this house.”

“Logan, say something! Tell him what happened!”

I compel Logan but he just stands with his head facing the ground. He doesn’t stare my father directly in the eye.

“It's fine, Ruby, I have no right to say anything. I come to your house for the very first time and I act like a complete idiot. I’m sorry.”

For some reason, my dad no longer yells at him, he just stands immobile, steaming in rage.

“I’m sorry, Mr Reid. I’ll be sure not to show my face here again.”

“Why are you apologizing? It wasn’t your fault!”

The whole house goes quiet as I scream my voice out, the baby even stops crying at a point.

I grab Logan’s hand and lead him outside.

“C’mon, we’re leaving this place”

“Where to?”

“Anywhere but here, first we need to get your treated.”

I run up to my room and gr

ab my first aid kit for his bloodied face; we leave in his car shortly after.
