Dee said she was going to find Kaden,” Kellan said, his voice quiet. “She said she’d tell him you were here.”

My breath hitched in my throat. “What…?”

“She said she’d tell him everything,” he added, staring straight at me. “Where you were. What condition you’re in and the fact that you’re pregnant and knowing Dee, she wouldn’t just tell him, you know she’d make it a scene. She’d make it ugly and I know that you’re not ready to face him. You don’t even want to see him.”

I stood still in shock, my chest rising and falling quickly as my mind tried to catch up.

“You think I would’ve let her walk away if it wasn’t for that?” he said bitterly. “Do you think I wanted to stand there and lie for her? Protect her, when she’s the one who hurt you? But what choice did I have? If she exposed you to your mate… who knows what would happen?”
