VICTORIA POV.

It had been five days. Five long, bitter days since Vivian stole the empire from me like a thief. And I still haven’t returned home.

I’d been hiding. First behind grief, then behind Jake’s arms—warm, safe, always there. I ignored every call from Mom and Dad, letting their voices die in voicemails. And when Jake said he had to return to his family today, I all but begged him to stay a little longer. Just one more hour. One more kiss. One more day of pretending everything was okay.

But pretending couldn’t last forever. I stood in front of the full-length mirror, dressed in black high-waisted pants and a soft cashmere top. I stared at my reflection, but I wasn’t really looking at myself. I was floating somewhere in my head again—rewinding, replaying, obsessing.

Jake’s reflection stepped into the frame behind me, slicing through the fog in my mind. Blue shirt unbuttoned just enough to tease skin, his half-face mask set perfectly, his scent warm and musky—so Jake, so addicti

VICTORIA POV.It felt like a dream. No—a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from. I stood there… frozen. My hand still on the wall, my breath stuck somewhere between my lungs and my throat. My chest felt too tight, like something had reached inside and squeezed my heart in a fist.“She’s not your daughter!”Those words kept echoing, repeatedly. Getting louder and louder until they were all I could hear.I didn’t barge in. I didn’t scream or demand answers. I just… stayed and listened. Dying a little more with each word.Mom’s voice broke through next—shaky, heartbroken.“How could you, David? Despite everything I’ve done for her? I’ve treated her as my own, all this while.” A pause. Then sobs. “How could you?!”My legs trembled. I had to lean harder against the wall just to stay up. My ears rang. My body felt cold, numb. But my chest burned.Dad’s voice dropped, suddenly filled with regret. “I—I’m sorry, Grace. I swear, I didn’t mean to—”“Don’t touch me.” Mom snapped, voice cracking. “Let

  • UGLY SCARS   MY MISSING PIECE.

MICHAEL POV. The flash of cameras was blinding, but the real sting came from something else entirely—the way the press abandoned us. They all turned the second she stepped out of that damn car. Victoria Langston, and him—Jake. My fists clenched at my sides. So this was the game, huh? They’d waited for the exact moment we stood in the spotlight just to tear it away. Just to humiliate us. As if we were nothing. As if she was the real story.God, their audacity must be on sale. How dare they do this to us? I felt a warm hand slide into mine—Vivian.“It’s okay, honey,” she whispered, her voice sweet and low like honey trying to calm a wildfire. “Let them. It’s all temporary.”I didn’t respond. Not right away. I couldn’t. I knew she was trying to soothe me, and I appreciated it—but the anger was still there, buzzing under my skin. I reminded myself—she’s CEO now. We already won. This was just noise. Background static. Still, my jaw stayed tight.Vivian leaned in with a sly little smile.

VICTORIA POV. “Wake up, Princess.”Jake’s voice came soft against my forehead, his lips brushing my skin. I stirred, eyes fluttering open to the hazy morning light bleeding through the curtains. I yawned, stretched, and blinked twice just to be sure it wasn’t all a bad dream. My mind was still foggy from sleep, but my heart was heavy. So of course, it wasn’t a dream. Vivian had stolen my position as CEO. My own sister. And I still didn’t know how the hell that happened.I sat up slowly, the ache beneath my ribs a dull reminder that healing doesn’t always mean healed. On the small wheeled table in front of me was breakfast. It was simple but made with love—fluffy buttermilk pancakes, topped with whipped cream and raspberries, a side of honey-basted turkey bacon, and a tall glass of iced hazelnut latte, just the way I liked it. Jake must’ve put so much thought into it, down to every little detail. But even love couldn’t sweeten the bitterness in my mouth. I didn’t deserve this kind of

MRS. LANGSTON POV. I didn’t intend to betray my daughter—Victoria. In fact, that morning—the morning of the banquet—I woke up smiling. My first thought as my eyes fluttered open was simple, pure, and soft with hope—she’s back.My daughter, Victoria Langston, the real heir to the Langston Empire… she had returned. The fog had lifted from her memory, and she remembered everything again. Her laughter at dinner last night still echoed in my ears like music I hadn’t heard in years. It was like a part of me that had been buried finally rose from the grave. There was no shame left to carry. No lies to cover. No pretending anymore.Today, she was going to be crowned CEO. Just like her father always intended. I glanced at the empty side of the bed. My husband, Mr. Langston, was still sleeping in his separate room. He said it was the back pain, the late-night reading, the need for space. But I knew the truth… or at least I feared it. That something between us had shifted and never quite retur

  • UGLY SCARS   A NEW HEIR.

VICTORIA POV.I stood there, frozen. Applause roared around me, but it sounded like a scream in my ears. A betrayal, a cruel joke. What the hell was going on?Had they brought me here just to watch my downfall—to crown someone else in my place? To humiliate me?Jake stood up beside me, just as stunned. “Calm down… Victoria,” he whispered, leaning close. “Don’t react now—just hold it in.”“Don’t tell me to calm down,” I hissed under my breath. “Tell me what the hell is going on.” My voice cracked, and I swallowed hard, pain blurring my vision. “Am I dreaming?”My heart was pounding. I felt dizzy, unwanted, lost. Jake gently tugged my hand, coaxing me to sit beside him again. My legs were weak, but I let myself fall into the seat.Up front, she smiled. The room clapped like fools in a circus. And there she was—Vivian—wrapped in the arms of my mother, my father—my family.“Thank you so much, Mother! Thank you, Father!” she beamed, her voice sweet. “It’s such an incredible honor to stand
