Brother’s Girlfriend: Part 1

The apartment felt different without Marcus in it.

I dropped my bag by the couch and locked the door behind me the way he had shown me. Two nights. That was all. He had a last-minute work trip, the subletter who usually took the spare key was out of town, and he hadn’t wanted the place empty. Just crash there, he had said. Use the bed, eat whatever’s in the fridge, treat it like home. The spare key was already on my ring.

It should have felt simple.

I set my things in their bedroom—Marcus’s and mine on the nights I stayed over—and walked back out into the open living room. The space was clean, masculine, a little sparse. Big couch, low table, the smell of his cologne still faint in the air. The second bedroom at the end of the hall belonged to his older brother, Damien. I had only met him twice. Once at a birthday dinner, once when he passed through the kitchen on his way out while I was making coffee. Tall. Quiet. The kind of man who looked at people like he was already deciding something about them.

Marcus had said Damien was staying at a friend’s place for the weekend. Some camping thing. The apartment would be mine.

I made tea. Scrolled my phone. Tried to watch something on their television and gave up after twenty minutes. The quiet felt heavier than it should have. Every small sound—the ice maker, a car on the street below—seemed louder without Marcus’s voice filling the space.

I showered early, washed the day off, and pulled on the soft oversized T-shirt I usually slept in here. Nothing underneath. Marcus liked it that way on the nights I stayed. The cotton hit mid-thigh. I left my hair damp and loose, made another cup of tea, and curled into the corner of the big couch with the city lights visible through the half-open blinds.

My phone buzzed once. Marcus.

Landed. Hotel’s fine. Don’t wait up, meetings start early. Miss you.

I typed back a quick reply and set the phone face-down. The apartment settled around me again. I should have gone to bed. Instead I stayed on the couch, legs tucked under me, the T-shirt riding higher on my thighs, and let my mind drift in the direction it had been trying to avoid all evening.

Damien.

I didn’t know him well enough to justify the way my thoughts kept circling back. The brief, assessing look he had given me in the kitchen that one morning. The low sound of his voice when he said my name the first time. The fact that he was older, broader, quieter than Marcus—everything my boyfriend wasn’t. It was a dangerous direction to let my mind go while I was alone in their shared apartment, half-dressed, with two full nights stretching ahead of me.

I pressed my thighs together against the low, unwanted pulse that had started between them. The T-shirt suddenly felt thinner. I told myself it was just the strange quiet, the absence of Marcus, the residual tension of a long week. It didn’t help.

I stood up to take my empty mug to the kitchen.

That was when I heard the key in the lock.

The front door opened before I could fully process the sound. Footsteps. The soft thud of a bag hitting the floor. Then Damien stepped into the living room, still in a dark jacket, hair slightly windblown, looking exactly as surprised to see me as I was to see him.

We both froze.

His eyes moved over me in one quick, involuntary pass—damp hair, oversized T-shirt, bare legs, the obvious fact that I wasn’t wearing anything underneath. The glance lasted less than a second. It still left heat in its wake.

“Maya,” he said. His voice was lower than I remembered. “Didn’t know you’d be here.”

“Marcus said you were camping.”

“Trip got cancelled. Weather.” He closed the door behind him and set his keys on the counter without looking away from me. “He didn’t mention you were staying.”

“Last-minute. He didn’t want the place empty.”

“Right.”

Silence stretched. I became hyper-aware of how little I had on, of the cool air moving against my bare skin under the T-shirt, of the fact that we were alone in the apartment and Marcus was in another city. Damien’s gaze flicked down once more, then returned to my face with deliberate control. Something unreadable sat behind his eyes.

“I can take the couch,” I offered, too quickly. “Or go home. I don’t want to—”

“Stay.” The word came out quiet but firm. “Marcus would want you to stay. I’ll keep to my room. You won’t even know I’m here.”

I nodded, not trusting my voice. My pulse was thudding too hard in my throat. In other places.

Damien picked up his bag. He walked past me toward the hallway, close enough that I caught the faint scent of night air and something warmer underneath. At the edge of the living room he paused and looked back.

“You need anything from the kitchen before I turn in?”

“No. I’m good.”

He held my eyes for another second. The air between us felt thicker than the simple situation should have allowed. Then he nodded once and disappeared down the hall. His bedroom door closed with a soft, final click.

I stood alone in the living room, heart still beating too fast, the oversized T-shirt suddenly feeling like the thinnest excuse for clothing in the world. The apartment no longer felt empty. It felt charged. Occupied by the quiet presence of a man who was not my boyfriend, who had just looked at me like he was already thinking things he shouldn’t, and who would be sleeping only one closed door away for the next two nights.

I turned off the living-room light and walked to Marcus’s bedroom on unsteady legs.

Sleep felt very far away.

I booked the same hotel thirty-two days later. Same floor. Same request at the front desk for a quiet room toward the end of the hall. When the clerk slid the key card across the counter I almost asked for 614 on purpose, then stopped myself. The number didn’t matter. The unlocked door would do the work. I rode the elevator alone, found my assigned room, and stepped inside. The layout was identical—bed against the wall, desk near the window, bathroom with the same glass shower stall. I set my bag down, removed every piece of clothing, and left the pile on the chair. Then I unlocked the door, left it open two inches, and sat on the edge of the bed to wait. Forty minutes passed. Footsteps stopped outside. The door pushed open. Noah stood in the threshold the same way I had the first time—travel bag over one shoulder, dark jeans, a button-down with the sleeves rolled. He took in the open door, the empty hallway behind him, and the fact of me sitting naked on the bed. The corner of hi

We didn’t make it to the bed right away. I stood in the middle of the hotel room with the towel wrapped loosely around me while Noah dried off. Water still beaded along his shoulders. His cock hung heavy between his thighs, slick from the shower and from me. The wrong-key mistake had already become something else entirely, and both of us knew it. He dropped his towel and crossed the space between us. One hand tugged mine open and let it fall. The cool air of the room tightened my nipples at once. Noah looked at me for a long second—bare, still wet between the legs with his come, standing in a stranger’s room like I belonged there—then backed me toward the wide window. The glass was cold against my back. City lights blurred through the sheer curtain. “Again,” he said. He lifted one of my thighs, hooked it over his hip, and pushed back into my cunt in a single thrust. I was still slick from the shower and from him. The stretch pulled a raw sound from my throat. Noah fucked me agains

I closed the distance. Three steps brought me to the bathroom threshold. Steam still hung in the air and clung to my clothes. Noah stood fully naked on the mat, water beading along his shoulders and chest, his cock now heavy and half-hard between his thighs. He watched me approach without moving to cover himself. The towel stayed on the floor where he had dropped it. “Last chance to turn around,” he said. “I’m not turning around.” Something satisfied moved through his expression. He reached out, took the strap of my duffel from my shoulder where it had started to slip again, and tossed the bag onto the carpet behind me. Then his hands settled on my waist, warm and damp from the shower, and pulled me the final inch into the bathroom. The tile was cool under my shoes. His body radiated heat. I could smell the hotel soap on his skin and the cleaner scent of water. My nipples had drawn tight against the inside of my bra; the friction of the fabric felt suddenly unbearable. Noah’s ey

The key card blinked green on the third try. I was tired, duffel bag heavy on one shoulder, the long train ride still sitting in my bones. The hallway of the hotel stretched quiet and identical in both directions—beige carpet, soft wall sconces, the low hum of the air system. Room 614. That was what the front desk had given me. I pushed the handle down and stepped inside. The room was already occupied. Steam drifted from the open bathroom door. The shower ran full force. A man’s clothes lay folded over the chair near the window—dark jeans, a gray button-down, a watch left on the desk beside a half-drunk bottle of water. The bed was untouched. A suitcase stood open on the luggage rack. I froze just past the threshold, the door still open behind me. “Hello?” My voice came out thinner than I intended. The shower continued. No answer. I should have backed out immediately, checked the number again, returned to the front desk. Instead I took another step inside and let the door swing

Morning light cut through the living room blinds earlier than I wanted. I woke stiff on the sectional, the throw blanket twisted around my legs. Mia was already up and moving in the kitchen—cabinet doors, the coffee grinder, ordinary sounds that felt too loud. The cushion under me still held a faint scent of sex and whiskey. My panties were stiff with the dried evidence of the night before. Every small shift sent a dull reminder through my cunt of how hard he had fucked me while his daughter slept a few feet away. I sat up and fixed my tank top. Mr. Hale was nowhere in sight. Mia appeared in the doorway with two mugs. “You’re awake. Dad’s in the shower. He said he’d drive you home after coffee so you don’t have to wait for the bus.” “Okay.” She handed me a mug and dropped onto the opposite end of the couch like nothing in the room had changed. I drank the coffee too fast and listened to the water running upstairs. The sound of it made my skin warm all over again. I kept my thigh

His fingers worked inside me in steady strokes while Mia slept only a few feet away. I kept my face pressed to his shoulder to muffle the sounds I couldn’t hold back. Mr. Hale’s thumb rubbed tight circles over my clit. The wet noise of his fingers moving in my cunt felt too loud in the quiet living room. Every time Mia shifted under her blanket my whole body tensed, but she only mumbled and settled again. “Look at me,” he whispered. I lifted my head. His eyes were dark and heavy with the same need that had me shaking against his hand. He watched my face while he curled his fingers and pressed harder against the sensitive spot inside me. The pressure built fast. My thighs trembled. I bit down on my own lip to stay silent as the pleasure coiled tighter. “Come,” he said, barely audible. “Do it quietly.” The order broke me. My cunt clenched around his fingers in hard pulses while I shook against him, a raw sound trapped in my throat. He worked me through every wave, slowing only when
