Three days passed.

Clara tried to act normal. She went to work, she bought groceries, and smiled at people in the hallway. But every time she walked past Joseph’s door, her body remembered the way he had kissed her. The way his hand had covered her breast. The way he had pulled away even though both of them had wanted more.

On the fourth night, her phone lit up at 10:47 p.m.

Joseph: Are you awake?

Her heart jumped. She stared at the message for a few seconds before typing back.

Clara: Yes.

  • UNHOLY TEMPTATIONS   The Wedding Planner (3)

The morning of the wedding arrived bright and clear, the kind of perfect weather I had prayed for when I first started planning this day seven months ago.I stood at the edge of the garden ceremony space in a simple black dress, headset in place, clipboard held tight against my side. White chairs filled with guests. Soft music drifted from hidden speakers. The florist had arranged the flowers exactly as we discussed. Everything looked flawless. Everything was under control.Except me.Levite stood at the end of the aisle in a perfectly tailored black suit. Broad shoulders. Calm expression. Hands clasped loosely in front of him. He looked every bit the man ready to marry the woman walking toward him. I forced my gaze away and checked the time on my phone. Ten minutes until the processional. His fiancée appeared at the far end of the path, veiled, smiling, the sunlight catching the beads on her dress. The music shifted. Guests rose. I watched her take each step. I watched Levite’s face

I shouldn’t have come. The venue was dark except for a few low lights along the walls. The ballroom looked different at night—empty, quiet. My heels clicked against the floor as I walked toward the center. Levite stood near the head table, waiting.“You came,” he said.“You asked me to check the lighting one last time.”He didn’t pretend that was the real reason. Neither did I.I set my bag down on a chair. My pulse was already climbing. He walked toward me slowly, his eyes never leaving my face. When he stopped in front of me, the space between us felt too small.“Tell me to leave,” he said, voice low.I stayed silent. His hand came up and curled around the back of my neck. The next second his mouth was on mine—hot, demanding, nothing like the almost-kiss from days ago. I opened for him. His tongue pushed inside, claiming. A rough sound left his throat as he backed me up until my spine met the edge of the long table. He lifted me onto it. My skirt rode up my thighs. He stepped betwee

I stood in the middle of the empty ballroom with my clipboard pressed against my chest. Crystal chandeliers threw soft light across the polished floor. White chairs waited in neat rows. Everything looked perfect. The wedding was six days away.Levite walked in through the side doors. His footsteps echoed. He wore a dark shirt with rolled-up sleeves, revealing strong forearms. His fiancée was at a final dress fitting. He had come alone to check the last details with me.“Evening, Rebecca.”His voice echoed easily in the large space.“Good evening. The florist confirmed the centerpieces will arrive Thursday morning. The caterer needs your final approval on the wine list by tomorrow.”I kept my tone steady and professional. I had worked with him for seven months. I knew how to stay focused.Levite stopped a few steps away. His gaze moved over the setup, then settled on me.“You’ve handled everything without a single mistake,” he said. “I’m impressed.”“It’s my job.”“Still. Most people c

The next twelve days passed in a blur of stolen hours and quiet desperation.Lila and Noah stopped pretending they could stay apart. During the day they still moved carefully — cooking, working, talking like nothing had changed. But the moment the sun went down, the careful distance disappeared. They had sex almost every night. Sometimes in his bed. Sometimes against the kitchen counter after dinner. Once on the living room floor because they couldn’t make it down the hallway. Each time Noah took her with the same intense focus, holding her on the edge without letting her fall. He came hard every time — body tensing, breath breaking, hips jerking as he emptied himself inside her — while Lila stayed wet, aching, and unsatisfied in a way that only made her want him more. The house became their private world. Maya’s name was rarely spoken. The future was never discussed. They simply took what they could while they still had time. Then, on a Thursday evening, Lila’s phone lit up with a me

By the middle of the second week, the house felt different.Lila and Noah moved around each other with a quiet awareness that hadn’t been there before. They still cooked together and still watched movies. But every brush of hands, every shared look, every late-night conversation carried something heavier underneath. On Thursday night they opened a bottle of wine. They sat on the couch with the lights low. The television was on, but neither of them was really watching. Conversation drifted from easy topics into more personal ones. Lila talked about how strange it felt to be between apartments. Noah talked about how quiet the house had been since Maya moved out years ago. The wine loosened their words. At some point Lila shifted closer. Noah didn’t move away. His arm rested along the back of the couch again. This time when her shoulder brushed his fingers, neither of them pretended it was an accident. The movie ended. The screen went dark. Silence settled over the living room.Noah spok

Maya left on a Sunday morning. She hugged Lila tightly at the front door, suitcase already in the Uber.“Three weeks isn’t that long,” Maya said. “And Noah barely uses the house anyway. Make yourself at home, okay? Eat whatever’s in the fridge. Watch whatever you want. Just don’t burn the place down.”Lila laughed. “I’ll try.”Maya hugged her brother next. Noah stood a little apart, hands in his pockets, tall and quiet as always. He gave his sister a small smile and told her to text when she landed. Then Maya was gone. The house felt different the moment the door closed.Lila had stayed here dozens of times over the years. She knew which floorboard creaked, which cabinet held the good coffee mugs, which remote actually worked. But she had never stayed when Maya wasn’t there. The house suddenly felt bigger and quieter.Noah turned to her.“You can take Maya’s room if you want,” he said. “Or the guest room. Whatever’s more comfortable.”“The guest room is fine.”He nodded. “I’ll be work
