ALEX

I stirred, the warmth of sleep still clinging to me as darkness stretched across the room.

Something soft pressed against my side. She’d curled into me, her body warm and pliant despite her usual hesitance.

There was trust in the way she pressed close, unguarded.

Careful not to wake her, I slowly slid my arm from beneath her head. A sleepy grumble, “Where are you going? I’m cold.”

A slow smile tugged at my lips. “Just heading upstairs to work out before the office,” I whispered, brushing a strand of hair from her face.

She tightened her grip, her voice muffled against my chest. “No, ten more minutes. You’re so warm.”

I exhaled a quiet laugh. “I’ll grab you a blanket.”

“Not the same,” she murmured, draping a leg over mine to keep me in place. Her thigh grazed my hip, bare and soft.

Heat tightened in my gut. I huffed, the sound caught somewhere between a laugh and a groan before settling back against the pillow.
