Luca pinched the bridge of his nose, his arms over his chest, as his consigliere talked behind him, staring at the screen in front of them. “She is waning away, and you know that. The funeral is tomorrow, and she is already looking like a corpse for the coffin." “She is very stubborn." His consigliere marched up to the laptop and switched it off, gaining his attention. "That's all the more reason you have to consider Luca." “The maids said she isn’t touching her food even after threatening her with her father’s funeral. She is tight on herself; I don’t know how to deal with women, Angelo, especially the stubborn ones." He threw his hands up in the air. “She will die, Luca." "Oh, she better do that before her father’s funeral so I can get her over with. Her father had been a loyal friend and underboss, but you know what? He did what was unforgivable, and his penalty was death. People died, Angelo." He whispered the last words. “An eye for an eye that was what they said and wanted!” “Maybe you should start with taking that chain off her legs so she can move around the room. For God’s sake, Luca, she’s a woman who needs to take her bath and have a say at least within the four walls of the prison you have her in. Jesus." Luca made his way to the laptop and switched it back on, his eyes took in the woman behind the screen. She was singing softly, rocking on her knees, her brown hair, which he had felt the day she fainted with her father on her lap. Her soft silky hair now looked like a bird’s nest. Her dress was the only thing she changed, and she purposely chose the worn out ones. He never wanted her to turn out this way; if only she would listen and stopped acting stubborn for once. He had known her since she was a teenager when he recruited Peter into the family. Calm, collected, and demure. Speaks when spoken to but now… Luca switched off the laptop and picked it up, tucked it under his arm. Then he turned to his consigliere. “You may leave. Do what I asked you to do, and no questions about it." “But Luca she…” “No questions now, Angelo. Do as I said and get it done before they know." With that said. He exited the room. He nodded to the soldiers lining the hallways as he made his way towards the one place he knew he needed to be. Luca continuously ran his hand through his hair. He didn’t know what to say to her if he saw her, but he knew he had to try. Arriving at the door. He knocked once, alerting her of his presence, then pushed it. He got himself in where he dropped his laptop on the table next to the door. His eyes took in the scene before him. He knew what being kept in one place could mean for someone who had been a free bird all through her life, though sheltered. Insanity. “Yes, Dad, I know you said you were going to take me there." Sophia's eyes widened as she fake-gasped. "Jesus, Dad. Don’t be ridiculous right now." Her eyes lifted to Luca from the bed as she lay face up to the ceiling and smiled. “Someone's here, Dad. Hmm your murderer… hmm… I don’t know if he’s coming to kill me soon, Dad…. But yeah, I think I would love to join you and Mom… Yeah, yeah, Dad, bye. See you soon." She dropped her hand from her ear like she was finished with her call. “You heard it. They’re waiting, so kill me already so I can join my father tomorrow." Luca sighed. Oh, so she remembered. He walked slowly to the bed, then dropped to his knees at the foot, his tongue coming out to lick his lips, which her eyes followed. “I really don’t know what to say, Sophia, but you need to stop this madness of yours. You need to eat and get ready for your father’s funeral tomorrow." “Funeral?” Sophia guffawed, her laugh echoed through the walls. “What funeral, mine or my dad’s? Please explain what you mean." Luca didn’t reply, only slid his right hand into his pocket and withdrew a tiny key. He slid it into the chain lock at the end of the bedpost, and she scrambled away, causing him to hold down her leg. “Shh, steady. Only just want to unlock it." The lock opened and the chains fell to the bed, clunking together, which he gathered and threw on the floor. Sophia's eyes followed every movement until she reached his face. “Why did you do that?” “You need to take a good hot shower and eat, and tomorrow you get ready for your father’s funeral." He said and stood up. He crossed the room to the adjoining doors by the left side of the room. After a few seconds she heard the sound of water running before he emerged, his hands outstretched. “You can get along now." "No." Luca scrunched his face up as his eyes blazed and he balled his fists; gosh, he knew how patient and tolerant he was really trying to be right now. “Why?” He ambled to her side of the bed and stood glaring down at her. “I want you out of here so I can bathe,” she murmured. “Is that all?” He asked. Sophia nodded. “Ok, consider it done. Everything you need is inside there. Your body wash and everything. The other door there," he pointed to the door at the right side of the bed, “is the closet. It’s full of whatever you want. I’m out." He grabbed his laptop and left the room. “Asshole” Sophia drew her leg up to inspect the bruises on her ankle before leaving for the bathroom. While she was in the bathroom, soaking in the bathtub with her leg propped on the edge of the tub. Her hand fiddled with her hair while the other played with the bubbles from the water. A knock resounded lightly from her room door, which she heard but stayed silent about. The knock continued for a minute and then stopped. She breathed out, relaxing back in the tub. They could all go fuck themselves. The scene before Luca had him rethinking the decisions he was about to make, but it was the only way to secure his house and properties from the clutches of the government. No matter how many police officers you had in your pocket, they would always act on orders. And Luca didn't want any orders being carried out on his property. Not now. He had Sophia to protect and take care of. More smoke rose into the sky as the fire grew, flames feeding hungrily on every gust of wind that swept through the maze. They were in late spring, and rain didn't seem like something that would fall anytime soon. Perfect. Luca rolled up the sleeves of his shirt and snapped his fingers, catching the attention of his head of security, who was gawking at the rising flames like he was watching a fucking work of art. “Get me a fire hose.” “A hose?” His head of security's eyes widened, his mouth falling open. Luca stepped closer to him. This was it. There was no room for panic. He licked his lips and
Luca said nothing and moved closer to her, squatting down. He would do anything she wanted if it meant feeling her skin against his. Right now, he just wanted to leave this place in one piece, without injuries. He staggered forward as she practically threw herself onto his back. “Hold on tight,” he said, standing up. She locked her legs around his waist, and he tensed but grabbed her thighs to keep her steady nonetheless. He gritted his teeth at how smooth her skin was and how he might never get another chance to feel those legs wrapped around his neck, his waist, his skin. Not with another man. He closed his eyes for a brief moment but quickly opened them to see where he was going. He knew he had nothing up his sleeve that could make her forgive him. But who forgave the man who killed their beloved father? No one. Probably not even him. He shook his head, refusing to go back to that gory scene from that day. People like Sophia would grab an opportunity to escape like a wo
Luca silently followed behind Sophia, showing her the way whenever required. Not a word passed between them after the showdown inside the maze. He wasn’t speechless. He was a confused mess. Nothing was clicking. While he was in his head, thinking about how he was going to kill and destroy his enemies to get Sophia out of his thoughts, he didn’t notice her trying to jump over a wire. And that wire was— He heard her gasp. “Ah, ah, ah. Ow…” He immediately sprinted toward her. The moment he saw the wire, he pulled her away from it. His heart pounded when he saw how her leg had caught the wire and strained it from its position. He lifted her away from it carefully. His eyes stayed on the connection between her leg and the wire. It wasn’t a normal electrical wire. It was connected to the alarm. An alarm that was about to— “Shit,” Luca cussed. If they didn’t leave soon, and he couldn’t switch it off, this place would go up in flames. He didn’t want to be one of the things feedi
Luca groaned and angled her head for him to take her lips into his mouth more deeply. He probed her lips for entrance, and she whimpered, but Luca swallowed it up with his tongue slipping in without hesitation. Their lips fought for dominance, but Luca kissed her with precision and authority. Sophia gave in, pressing her hand against his chest, trying to push him. “St—” He claimed her mouth again, not giving her a breather as he sucked down on her lips and tongue. She raised her hand to his hair to push him away, but her fingers tugged him closer, seeking him out. “So stubborn," he murmured through the kisses and bit into her lower lip. The metallic taste of blood flowed into his mouth, and he sucked it all up. This was it. Heaven. Sophia turned and faced him, the dam breaking, and she dragged him to her, pressing her chest to him. Her tank top was so light that Luca felt the pucker of her tightened nipples. He pulled away from her to look at her face, but everyw
Leaves rustled; the air howled, echoing the night breeze. Sophia let out a shaky breath. She didn’t know the time, only that time had passed hours and the day had gone darker, yet no one was here and the road wasn’t ending, only getting more confusing. She hasn’t even heard a voice or anything; it’s like she was forgotten. She buried her face into her hands while sitting on her haunches, scared to sit on her bum and have something or an insect creep in. She was putting on a skirt and a flimsy tank top; she groaned to herself and pondered why she was stubborn, but she had to. Sophia was miserable and tired of waking up to the same walls and environment every day; she realized she might lose her sanity before even really leaving. “Fuck you, Luca," she hissed as tears slipped down her face. She was fed up and drained from everything. She’s tried stomaching what’s been going on for the past few weeks, but it was indigestible, and now she is choking and soon will vomit it, li
It's been three days since Luca went back home from his club, as much as he wanted to see Sophia’s face and feel her skin beneath his palm. Touch and feel—she was real, where he left her; that would be when she was asleep and he didn’t want a sleeping princess. He was no prince and didn’t want to be one. He rubbed his hand down from his hair to his face and took a gulp from the drink in his hand. This was depressing, he knew, pining over a woman that saw him as nothing but a murderer. There was no way he could convince her otherwise from what she had seen the day her father died, not like it was a lie, but there was more to it. He groaned and pressed his forehead with his fingers. Headache. She was giving him a non-stop headache, and he didn’t know how to relieve it. He stood up from his chair, ready to go back to his room. He had a room here, inside his office, for meetings that ran into the night and locations that were too far off from his house. This place was close
