Chapter 4: Chapter Four: Jiang Shiluo, the Shameless One

After Grace Roxanne was thrown out of the restaurant by the security guards, she was so angry that she almost had a falling out with Lin Sheng right there. To make amends, Lin Sheng took her to another place for dinner and bought her the latest LV shoes, which finally calmed her down.

Grace Roxanne declined the man's invitation to watch a movie at a private cinema and tiptoed back home, only to find both her parents in the living room, seemingly waiting for her.

_Oh no._

She hadn't figured out how to explain that she hadn't even met President.

_It's all because of that little bitch, Lena Roxanne!_

Just as she was mentally cursing Lena Roxanne, Song Meixin walked over, warmly leading her to the sofa.

"My dear daughter, tell me, how did you do it?"

"What?" Grace Roxanne didn't understand what she was talking about.

"Earlier today, someone from the Wright Corporation's branch came to our company and invested fifty million yuan on the spot!" Orlando Roxanne said, his face glowing with joy, his smile so wide it seemed to cover his eyes.

"Shiluo, how did you convince President?" Song Meixin pressed on.

_Strange, could it be that President really came for me?_

Grace Roxanne's eyes darted around, and she played along, "I just briefly mentioned our family's intention to collaborate with the Wright Corporation. I never expected him to be so direct."

As she spoke, she blushed and whispered, "And the way he looked at me, it seemed a bit... unusual."

"Oh my, my silly daughter, it's clear that President has taken a fancy to you!" Song Meixin laughed, unable to stop.

Lena Roxanne, who had just entered the house, heard this and thought she must have misheard.

But then Song Meixin added, "The Wright family is one of the top families in the capital. If you can marry into their family, we'll be able to walk tall in Riverside City!"

"Oh, Mom, I'm still young," Grace Roxanne said, feigning shyness.

"Hahaha, you're such a shy girl," Song Meixin chuckled.

Grace Roxanne noticed Lena Roxanne entering and, remembering the events of the day, she said pointedly, "Oh, by the way, I saw my sister at the Golden Jade Pavilion today. I wonder who she was with."

Orlando Roxanne immediately caught the implication and roared without thinking, "Lena Roxanne! We provide you with everything you need. Don't go around doing anything shameful that would bring disgrace to our family!"

Orlando Roxanne actually believed that Lena Roxanne was trying to get rich quick. He began to doubt the source of the one million yuan she had previously received.

"Our boss is wealthy and invited us to a dinner. Is there something wrong with that?" Lena Roxanne said, somewhat exasperated. She then changed the subject, "What were you saying about President just now?"

"I met President today, and he invested fifty million yuan in our family. This way, you don't have to marry into the Hu family. You don't need to thank me; it's what a sister should do," Grace Roxanne said, her chin practically in the air.

"Oh, how tall is President?" Lena Roxanne asked.

"At least 185 cm. When he stood next to me, I only reached his shoulder," Grace Roxanne replied after a moment's thought.

_Hmph, standing next to her? Grace Roxanne probably doesn't even know that the president uses a wheelchair._

Lena Roxanne listened to her sister's story, suppressing a laugh. She decided to wait and see when the truth would come out and Grace Roxanne would be exposed.

In reality, Grace Roxanne felt so confident because she was known as the most beautiful woman in Riverside City. She assumed that once President saw her, he would fall for her.

The next day, Lena Roxanne went to the hospital to visit the orphanage director and paid a year's worth of medical fees. She also made a donation to the orphanage. Coincidentally, her recent manuscript payment had arrived, so she decided to head to the city's largest department store.

She entered a high-end men's accessory store and browsed around, wanting to buy something to repay the man who had helped her so much. She spotted a deep blue tie with a subtle pattern, thinking it would suit Emmanuel Wright's style. Just as she was about to pick it up, a hand slapped hers, leaving a red mark on her wrist.

"If you can't afford it, don't touch it. This tie is made of silk. What if you damage it?"

The salesperson, seeing Lena Roxanne's simple attire and young appearance, assumed she couldn't afford the tie. She didn't want the trouble of having to repackage it, so she interrupted Lena Roxanne's action.

"How do you know I can't afford it?"

Lena Roxanne wondered if she had been too low-key recently, attracting such dismissive treatment.

"Hmph, isn't it obvious? Look at yourself. Do you look like someone who can afford branded items? Little sister, if you can't afford it, don't try to act rich. It's embarrassing!"

The salesperson crossed her arms and rolled her eyes at Lena Roxanne, even reaching out to push her away.

"Who said my fiancée can't afford anything here?"

A deep, magnetic voice came from the entrance. Emmanuel Wright, in a wheelchair, was pushed to Lena Roxanne's side.

"Uncle, you're here," the girl greeted him with a bright smile.

Emmanuel Wright had texted her earlier asking where she was, and he arrived surprisingly quickly.

"Mm, what does Miao Miao want to buy?" Emmanuel Wright asked, giving her a small, unpracticed smile, which left Bill Hardy stunned.

_Did the president just smile?_

"I just got my manuscript payment, and I wanted to buy Uncle a tie," the girl said, pointing to the tie on the shelf, hoping Emmanuel Wright would like it.

However, the man's gaze fell on Lena Roxanne's hand. He lifted it and gently rubbed her wrist with his thumb, making her feel a bit embarrassed.

"Miao Miao, did she hit you?"

His eyes, sharp as a blade, turned to the salesperson.

The salesperson, startled, quickly explained, "I didn't hit her, it was just an accident."

Emmanuel Wright ignored her and instructed another male salesperson, "Go get your manager."

The male salesperson, sensing the man's imposing presence, hurried to call the manager, while the female salesperson stood there, bewildered.

Lena Roxanne picked up the tie and examined it. She liked it and promptly paid for it, asking the male salesperson to wrap it.

"No need," Emmanuel Wright stopped the salesperson and turned to Lena Roxanne, "Can Miao Miao help me put it on?"

"Sure," Lena Roxanne agreed, having studied how to tie ties before.

They moved to a mirror, and Lena Roxanne leaned in to flip up Emmanuel Wright's collar, placing the tie on it. Her nimble fingers deftly worked the tie, forming a perfect Windsor knot. However, she forgot some of the later steps.

Seeing this, Emmanuel Wright took her hand and guided her through the remaining steps, his movements slow and deliberate, as if he wanted her to remember each step.

Their proximity was almost intimate, and the scent of sandalwood from the man filled her senses, making her feel strangely intoxicated.
