Chapter 243: My Son

last update 최신 업데이트: 2025-12-11 23:03:36

Alex’s POV

I left the café with my head still full of Rissa’s voice, her warnings, her fear, her determination. But underneath all of that, something else tugged at me… something deeper, older, heavier.

Nolan.

Two weeks.

Two whole damn weeks since I’d seen my son.

My chest tightened the moment I got into the car. I didn’t even bother starting the engine right away. I just sat there for a second, pressing both palms to the steering wheel, breathing through the ache sitting square at the center of my ribs.

My son had been dragged into this mess… again. Just like the first time.

And I had failed to protect him… again.

I exhaled sharply and started the engine. The address Rissa texted lit up on the dashboard… Kayla’s estate. At least he was safe. At least she trusted Kayla. That alone gave me enough relief to keep driving without crashing into the nearest tree from anxiety.

It took me thirty minutes to get there. The estate’s gatehouse was massive, guarded, the kind of place Nol would lov

Kristoff’s POVWe stared at each other. No shouting. No movement. Just silence stretching thin between us like a wire pulled too tight.Rissa’s eyes were open now…fully awake, fully aware and what stared back at me wasn’t fear. Not yet.It was hate.Pure, unfiltered hatred burned where love once lived. I recognized it instantly, not because I’d seen it before, but because I’d spent my entire life provoking it. From men who thought they were stronger. From women who thought they were smarter. From people who realized too late that they had underestimated me.Rissa’s hatred should have moved something in me.It didn’t.She lay restrained on the bed, one wrist cuffed to the metal rail, the other free but useless. A thin bandage wrapped her head where the vase had connected. Dried blood darkened the edge of the gauze. Her breathing was shallow, controlled…she was trying not to give me the satisfaction of panic.I admired that.I stepped closer, slow and deliberate, until I stood beside th

Kristoff’s POVThe car door slammed harder than it needed to.I was already halfway out before the echo died, my feet hitting the gravel as if I could outrun the tension clinging to my skin. The drive back had been unbearable…too quiet, too heavy. Rissa hadn’t said a word, and that silence had gnawed at me worse than any accusation.I headed straight for the steps. If I could just get inside, get upstairs, shut a door between us…“Kristoff.”Her voice cut through me.I froze. For a second, I considered pretending I hadn’t heard her. But that would only confirm whatever suspicions were already circling in her head. Slowly, I turned around. She stood a few feet behind me, arms folded tightly over her chest. Her face wasn’t angry. It was worse…confused, wounded, searching.“What were you doing at the hospital?” she asked. “And don’t lie to me.”I forced a smile onto my face, the familiar one. The one that had always worked. “Rissa, now’s not the time. I had business to settle…”“With my

Mrs. Quinn’s POVI stood where I was long after Kristoff’s car disappeared from the hospital driveway. The wind brushed past me, but it did nothing to cool the heat crawling beneath my skin. I watched the empty road, my nails digging into my palm as one truth settled heavily in my chest.Kristoff Hale was up to something.I had sensed it the moment he walked out of my husband’s room with that file tucked so confidently under his arm. Too calm. Too prepared. And that nurse…there was no way she had just happened to be there.I had thought Kristoff would be manageable. Another ambitious man dazzled by power, easily guided as long as he felt included. We had given him access, protection, even influence. In return, he was supposed to help us deal with Anna. Not turn the game around on us.I exhaled slowly and turned back toward the hospital. If Kristoff was making moves, then I needed answers…fast. And the first person who could give them to me was that nurse.Inside, I headed straight for

Kristoff’s POVI intercepted Nurse Bianca near the elevator bank before she could slip away. She flinched when she saw me, her steps slowing, then stopping altogether. Her eyes darted to the corridor, to the nurses’ station, to the security camera mounted high on the wall.“Relax,” I said quietly. “We’re done here.”Her shoulders sagged, but the tension didn’t leave her face. “Mrs. Quinn came back,” she whispered. “She asked me questions. About why I was in the room. About the documents.”I smiled, slow and measured. “And?”“I told her I was assisting with routine observation. She didn’t believe me.”“She doesn’t have to,” I replied. “She just needs to stop digging.”Bianca swallowed. “So what happens now?”I stepped closer, lowering my voice. “Now you take a leave. Effective immediately.”Her brows knitted together. “A leave?”“Yes. Medical. Family emergency. Emotional exhaustion. Pick whatever excuse sounds most convincing.” I met her eyes. “You stay away until Mr. Quinn is discharg

Kristoff’s POVMrs. Quinn didn’t sit. That was the first thing I noticed. She stood there, arms folded, her back straight, her presence filling the room like a wall I hadn’t planned for. Not a scream. Not a demand. Just quiet, measured scrutiny. The most dangerous kind.I smiled anyway. It was instinct at this point…smile when cornered, smile when blood is in the water. Smile until the other person forgets they should be afraid.“I’m surprised to see you here,” I said lightly. “I assumed you were still in Zurich.”Her eyes flicked to the folder on the table, then to the pen in her husband’s hand.“Clearly assumptions aren’t your strength,” she replied.I exhaled softly, as though amused. Inside, my mind was tearing itself apart, recalibrating timelines, exits, leverage. Think. Control the narrative.“Mr. Quinn asked for my help,” I said, turning slightly toward him, offering him the lifeline. “I’m merely advising him on how to protect the company from hostile interests.”She laughed.

Kristoff’s POVThe shrill ring of my phone cut through the hum of the engine. I swerved slightly, cursing under my breath before grabbing it.“Dolly?” I barked.“Sir,” Officer Dolly’s voice came urgent but steady. “Anna… she’s been rushed to the hospital. Fainted in solitary.”I slammed a hand against the steering wheel, my mind snapping into overdrive. Fainted in solitary? That girl was more trouble than she was worth sometimes.“Clean everything,” I growled. “Erase every trace that she was placed in solitary. No one can know. Understand?”“Yes, sir,” Dolly replied. Then his voice hesitated. “Miss Rissa… she’s here.”A spark of irritation flared in my chest. Rissa? Why the hell is she here? My lips pressed into a thin line. It was impossible that she wouldn’t have found her way into that hospital, into the middle of my careful arrangements. My plan to control everything, to bend this situation to my will, was showing cracks.I ground my teeth. Fine. Let her be there. I’ll find a way
