Amelia’s POV

I stared at his strong back, trying to grasp the meaning of his short sentence. But the more I thought about it, the more questions swirled in my head.

Xavier's pace never slowed. The sound of his shoes clicking against the marble floor, a steady yet firm rhythm, seemed to beckon me to follow him without hesitation. I quickened my pace, keeping my distance so I wouldn't be left behind, though my heart was still filled with confusion.

The corridor was long and quiet. It was just the two of us, and the silence felt oppressive. I wanted to speak, to ask so many questions: why was he defending me? Why did he care? What was the point of all this? But every time my lips opened, the words stopped, swallowed back by nervousness.

Finally, he stopped in front of a small room at the end of the hallway. His hand pushed open the wooden door calmly, then gestured for me to enter first.

Xavier’s POVAmelia must know. Sooner or later, this secret will come out. And I knew the longer I delayed, the deeper the hurt she would feel when it all came to light. But how could I tell her that she had married someone she never truly knew? That the man who had only existed as a faint shadow on official documents was me.I clenched my fists on the table. Truly, there was a part of me that wanted to end this immediately, to say it out loud: “Amelia, you’re my wife. You’ve been a part of me for a long time, even if you don’t realize it.”But my tongue was numb. I was too afraid.Adrian’s footsteps sounded again outside, but this time I ignored them. I didn’t want to be disturbed. I wanted to be alone.I stood up and walked to the large balcony at the end of the room. From there, the view of the city str

Xavier’s POVUntil now, my life had been ruled by numbers, contracts, agreements—all things that could be measured, calculated, and controlled. But since Amelia reentered my orbit, all those rules seemed to be crumbling one by one.She wasn't a number. She wasn't a project. She wasn't just an old promise.Amelia was something I couldn't grasp in the usual way. That was what made me uneasy.I reopened the report about her family. Her father's name was clearly printed, followed by a list of notes about the small business he used to run. I still remembered the last night I spoke to that man. They didn't respect Amelia at all.It was a simple sentence, but it felt heavy at the time.I remembered how those old eyes penetrated me, full of trust.I never told Amelia the details, maybe I never will. But from t

Xavier’s POVThe report arrived on my desk sooner than expected. Adrian truly knew how to work without question. He simply placed it on my black wooden desk and silently left the office.I opened the folder, reading line by line.Amelia's name was clearly printed at the top of the campus financial report: scholarships, academic records, organizational activities. Everything looked neat and orderly, as if she'd fought hard to stay there. However, at the bottom, there were additional items I couldn't ignore.Blurry photos, gossip spread on student forums, a small note about a rumored failed quickie marriage. And one name appeared in the additional notes—Samuel.A close friend. Too close.I closed the folder slowly, shifted my chair, and stood in front of the large window. From here, I could see the city lights twinkling in the distance. Everything seemed small from this

Amelia’s POVI smiled bitterly. “Because I had no choice. At that time, my family situation, the pressures of everything, blocked any other path. I could only remain silent. You know that Kevin left me on my wedding day.”I could feel Samuel's gaze growing heavier. There was anger there, an injustice he wanted to voice. But I also knew Samuel wouldn't truly judge me.“I hate them,” he said finally, his teeth clenched. “I hate people who treat you like a tool. You deserve to be happy, Amelia. Not like this.”I closed my eyes, letting his words sink in. Part of me wanted to cry, the other part just wanted to bury it all deeper.“But now…” I opened my eyes, staring at the fallen leaves on the path. “I'm bound by something I don't even understand. I'm the wife of someone whose face I don't even remember.”

Amelia’s POVI never thought her text message would keep me on edge all night. Her words still rang in my head.[From now on, Amelia has something to do with me.]What did she mean? Why did she have to involve herself so deeply?I gripped my phone tightly, debating whether to ask, or stay silent. But for some reason, my fingers were typing before I could think long.[Why are you doing this? For me?]I hit send, then quickly closed the screen, afraid to see her reply. The few seconds felt like an eternity.Until finally, my phone vibrated again.[Do you want an honest answer? Meet me tomorrow. In the old library, after class.]I was silent. The old library, a rarely used place, deserted, almost forgotten. Why did she choose that place? My chest was pounding. But deep inside, something told me: I had to go.The next day in the Old Library, my footsteps echoed on the cold marble floor. This library was different from the new building: dim lights, old wooden shelves, the scent of yellowin

Xavier’s POVI gripped my glass tighter. My childhood was short, cold, full of pressure masked by luxury. People saw me as a lucky heir, but what they didn't know was that every step I took was a test, every mistake a punishment. I learned quickly, or I was destroyed.Maybe that's why I saw a reflection of myself in Amelia.Someone forced to submit, but within her was a flame that couldn't be extinguished.I stood up and walked to the balcony. The wind carried the scent of the sea from a distance, cooling my skin, but my mind remained cluttered.I should have walked away.I should have simply paid that old promise with one intervention and returned to my normal life. But something held me back. When I saw Amelia in the room earlier, surrounded by people ready to devour her whole, I realized: if I left, no one would stop
