I covered my mouth, almost in disbelief.

It was the grandmother I had found on the street, lost due to her illness. The grandmother I had taken to the police, hoping her family would find her.

I froze.

 “Grandma,” Xavier greeted her quickly, stepping forward to support her. His tone was softer, more loving. “Why did you come down alone? Didn’t Adrian say it’s better to wait upstairs if you’re tired?”

The old woman only smiled faintly. “I feel like someone I’ve been waiting for has finally arrived.”
