Chapter 5
Adelie POV
"H... Hi, Mr. Raymond," I stutter, smiling at him nervously. It's crazy how I can still look at him and smile even after what happened. Aren't I heartless? Well, it wasn't my fault, but Asher's. He caused all of it.
"What took you so long to come to the office today, Adelie?" He asks with a blank expression on. I have no idea whether he's mad at me, or if he's cool about what happened yesterday.
"Uhm... Forgive me, Sir... Something came up back at home..." I reply to him, and gulp down nothing.
"Alright. I have a meeting with a client now. I will be back soon," He says and starts walking away.
"Hold on, Sir..." I find myself calling his attention, and he stops on his track, tilting his head to look at me afterward.
"Yes?" He raises one of his eyebrows as he stares at me with a demanding expression on, and I bite my lip as I finally turn to face him. What the hell should I tell him? I'm sorry about what happened, it wasn't my fault but my brother's? How am I supposed to tell him that? He would definitely ask why my brother would do such a thing, since I'm an adult that can make decisions for myself.
"About what happened yesterday..." I pause and bite my lip for the second time, feeling a bit nervous.
"It's fine... I understand you had to be with your boyfriend... But you could've told me you had a boyfriend when I asked you to watch a movie with me, yeah?" He smiles at me, but behind the smile is the pain I can see in his eyes.
"No... No... No, Sir. It's not what you think, okay? That was my brother that spoke with you yesterday... He was just messing with me because he didn't want me out of the house... He... He felt I won't be safe, which was made him do that," I explain to him, but his face remain blank, and I'm thinking if he heard what I said.
"Actually, I don't have a boyfriend," I don't know why I said this to him, but I just feel the need to.
"Really? You really don't have a boyfriend?" His face brightens for unknown reason, and I slowly nod my head. The smile on his face tells me how happy he is to hear that from me, but why's he happy?
"No, I don't," I reply to him, and his smile widen.
"Alright... Uhm... Adelie... Are you going to be free tonight? We can have dinner together at a classic restaurant, if you don't mind," He asks me, and I think for a while. I would've loved to with all my heart, but what about Asher? Won't he be a problem later?
"Sure, I will be glad," I reply to him, even though I'm not sure of this yet, and I can see the excitement in his eyes.
"Thank you. I will send you the address of the place later, and the time too," He says to me, and I nod my head.
"One more thing, Mr. Raymond..." I say to him and pause.
"Ask anything," He shrugs, and I gulp down nothing. I don't know if what I'm about to ask will make sense, but I really need to.
"I was thinking if we can go from here after the day's work. I mean I don't want to go home first," I say to him, and a thin line appears between his eyebrows. You know the reason I'm making this decision, right? You aren't expecting me to go home and have my brother stop me from going later, right? It's just high time I get a boyfriend. I'm twenty-three for fuck's sake, turning twenty-four soon.
"If that is what you want, then I'm fine with it," He shrugs, and I slowly nods my head.
"I'll get you a dress to change into later," He says to me, and I nod my head as I mutter a "Thank you"
"I'll be back soon," He says to me before he finally stride out of the office, and I sigh deeply, finding my way to my seat. I have not gone for the date, but I'm already nervous. Although I have been to many dates in recent years of my life, and they never went well because my brother would always show up to mess things up for some reason best known to him. I just hope nothing of such happens today. I'm going to lose my mind if Asher decides to come and embarrass me there again. I won't ever forgive him if anything of such happens.
The rest of the hours of the day was well spent, and it's finally time for the date. The dress for the date has been delivered to me, and I must confess that Mr. Raymond has great taste in clothes because the red short gown fits me so well. I would've bought the same cloth if I had spot it anywhere because of its beauty.
Stepping out of the restroom after I change into the dress with my hair falling freely over my shoulders, I walk elegantly into my office where he's already waiting for me, my heels are clicking the floor as I walk toward the closed door and push it open.
"Wow! You look so gorgeous," He quickly stands up as soon as I walk in, staring at me the same way Asher does stare at me. Don't think otherwise about me mentioning my brother. It's just a reference.
"Thank you," I blush hard, turning my face away shyly. It's the first time in years that a man is telling me this. Yes, my brother tells me that everyday, and also when he flirts with me, but fuck! I don't need all of that.
"Shall we?" He holds out his hand for me, but I shake my head in denial. It'll be inappropriate for other workers to see me holding hands with my boss in the company, so I don't want gossips later.
"Alright, this way," He finally lead me out of the office, and we head to the elevator which takes us to the first floor.
Walking over to the exit door side by side, I can see the stares some of the workers are giving us, and I feel a bit uncomfortable. I know to some of them, we're going for a business date, while some that can read the connection would know what is really going on. Mr. Raymond doesn't seem to care about what they think, anyway.
The drive to the restaurant was relaxing, and we finally arrive after spending about twenty minutes on the road.
Pulling over at the parking lot of the tall building, I quickly open the door and step out of the car and he does the same. He walks over to where I'm standing, intertwining his fingers with mine, and my heart miss a beat as I gulp down nothing, feeling a bit nervous. I think this is awkward.
"We're here," He announces as if I had no clue we're already in front of the restaurant. I haven't talked about how magnificent the building is, and the exterior design is everything to be called beauty. It's literally my first time being here, and I must confess that I like the environ already, only if their food would convince me later that the restaurant is actually worth it.
"Come on, let's go inside," He pulls me along and we walk toward the entrance door, his fingers still interlocking mine. Getting close to the door, it swings open on its own, and we walk in. My mouth literally drop open in shock at the sight that welcomes me as soon as we step into the restaurant. I have never been to a restaurant as beautiful as this. The interior design is everything, and I think it's for wealthy people.
"Do you like the place?" He asks, pulling me out of lost, and I glance at him, nodding my head. But wait! Why's it only us here?
"Yes. It's beautiful," I smile widely with admiration.
"Come on, let's sit there," He beckons on a place that's decorated beautifully like a couple's table for two.
Walking over to the table, he pulls out the chair for me to sit on, before he sit across from me. The waiter come to serve us.
Silence assumes the air as we focus on our food, eating silently. It has been a while since I last tried something like this, and it feels a bit awkward now.
"Adelie..." He suddenly breaks the awkward silence, causing me to raise my gaze to look at him with a questioning look on.
"Hmm?" I reply to him, and it takes him another minute before he sighs briefly.
"We have been working together for close to two years now, you know?" He begins, and I nod my head.
"Uhmmm... This may be too sudden, but it's just that I can't wait any longer... I have always admired you from the first day I sent my eyes on you... I... I... I am not perfect, but I want to be perfect to be worthy of you... I... I love you, Adelie..." He pauses and bites his bottom lip, while I stare at him with my mouth agape in shock.
"Will you give us a chance together for me to prove my love for you? Be my woman, Adelie Williams," He says with desire written all over him, and I gulp down nothing nervously...
Chapter 59Adelie froze on the spot and her eyes slowly widened in shock. "What is going on?""Are they not siblings? What in the world is going on?""Don't tell me they've been... Oh, no..." Adelie felt her heart stop beating for a while as those whispers tore through her ear, and when he finally pulled away from her, she staggered back, her face looked pale and shocked like someone that'd just seen a ghost. Maybe it would've felt better if she had seen a ghost, who knows?Just like every other person, Ray watched in shock, still on his knees as he searched for an explanation on her face. It felt like his heart was just stomped on, his chest contracted and his breath hitched. His face was laced with confusion, and like a lost puppy, he stared like that."A... Asher..." Adelie's voice came out in a whisper, and when she looked around the villa, it felt like she should disappear and never come back again. Seeing the expression on their faces, the disgust and confusion were enough to s
Chapter 58The atmosphere was tense for Adelie even though it was fine for every other person at the party. Looking around and making eye contact with Asher every damn time she looked was frustrating. She wanted the ground to open and swallow her at this point. Her heart skipped when she saw him stand up from the chair he has been seated on, and walking in her direction. She wanted to walk away fast so he won't be able to catch up with her, but she couldn't move herself from the spot. It felt like something was holding her down."Baby, are you ok?" Ray's warm hand wrapped around her waist as he came to stand beside her, and she watched Asher halt abruptly, his eyes darkened like someone that'd just seen something that got him angry. What's wrong with him? She asked herself, but quickly dismissed the thought, reminding herself that she had no business with him."Babe..." Ray called again, and she finally turned her gaze to look at him."You've been acting weird. Is everything alright?
Chapter 57It was finally the day for the end-of-the-year party at Adelie's company, but she wasn't having a good feeling about it. Many negative thoughts kept coming to her mind no matter how she tried to shove it off and pretend everything was fine."Uhm... Are you coming to the party?" She couldn't help but ask Asher before she left home earlier, and she prayed that just as he has said earlier that he wasn't sure, he shouldn't come over to the party."We are here, ma'am," her driver's voice pulled her out of her train of thought, and that was when she realized that they were already parked at the parking lot of the villa where the party was going to host. "Thank you," she said to the driver who was already holding the door open for her. She was cladded in a long red gown that had the back sweeping the ground. Her hair was parked in a ponytail with some strands on each side of her face, and her make-up was mild. She took a few seconds to check out the parking lot which already had
Chapter 56Raymond POV"Are you sure about this, Ray?" Rhea asked me as I drive us to the jewel store late in the morning, and I roll my eyes at her."Yes, I'm sure about it," I replied to her, and she sighed briefly."I'm thinking this is too fast, Ray. I mean, you barely know each other, so I don't think it's a good idea to propose to her now. I mean, what if she's not ready for this? Don't you think you should talk to her first secretly before you take it to the party?" She asked worriedly, and I rolled my eyes."Come on, Rhea. You worry too much. If I tell her about it, she won't be surprised. That is why I said it's a surprise. She loves me, and trust me, she will be excited to say yes to marrying me," I assured her, and she sighed briefly."Still, I don't think this is a good idea. I don't have a good feeling about this, Ray," She shook her head, insisting. Well, I wouldn't have brought her here with me to the jewelry store if not that I needed her help in choosing an engagement
Chapter 55Adelie POVLiving in this misery for days has been killing me slowly that I wish I never recalled what happened. As much as I wanted to talk to someone about my troubles, I couldn't bring myself to do it, scared of everything. What if he ended up killing my family? What if I said something and nobody even believes me? He can kill and clear the evidence just like he did the other day, right? What if he... Many questions ran through my mind, and in the end, my fear always had the upper hand in everything. I think I'm going to lose my mind eventually with all this thinking."Are you ok?" I almost jumped out of my body when I heard his voice, and I turned sharply to find him walking into the garden with his hands tucked inside his pockets. He had a deep frown on his face as usual, and just the sight of him was making my heart thump. "Are you still scared of me?" He asked with a smirk dancing on his lips once he was standing in front of me, and I swallowed nothing as I took a s
Chapter 54"It was because of you he broke up with me, Nathan. Why did you say that to him? Why did you have to insult him?" Cynthia yelled at the top of her voice as she grabbed the flower vase and threw it on the floor as it came crashing into pieces."Are you kidding me? I made him break up with you? What does that supposed to mean?" Nathan couldn't help but narrow his eyes at his cousin's foolishness. "Yes. It was all your fault. I fucking told you to stay out of it. I told you that I will handle it by myself, but you decided to ruin everything for me. You are so annoying!" She yelled again. Of course, she knew the truth that Asher never loved her, she knew this was not Nathan's fault, but she couldn't help it. She needed someone to vent her anger on, and Nathan was the only one available at the moment. She knew she was going to regret hurting her cousin's emotions later, but she couldn't even stop to think about that right now."Are you so blind that you didn't see it in his eye
