LOGINShe thought escaping him meant freedom. It only meant silence… before the storm found her again. Emily built a life from nothing, poverty, pain, survival, until she finally had something worth protecting: a home, a fragile peace, and a son who became her entire world. But peace is fragile when your past knows your name. A single knock at the door. And everything she buried comes back breathing. He’s not just a man from her past. He’s the man who never stopped owning pieces of her. Cold. Powerful. Impossible to outrun. Emily thought she survived him once. Now he’s back, and this time, he isn’t asking. Because some men don’t move on. Some men don’t forgive. And some obsessions… don’t end. They wait.

"Mommy, Mommy, there's a man at door" Seth, 6 years old ran inside the house, he was dirt, like any child playing outside Emily turned, her wine in hand and walking barefoot on the brand new carpet that costed her an arm and a half and she huffed "Look how dirty you are" she scolded him and put her glass on the kitchen counter and crouched down to his level "Mommy, there's a big tall and scary man at the door" Seth repeated and Emily sighed, kids at this age tend to have an overactive imagination So like any good mother, she walked to the door to ensure him there was no ' Big tall and scary man at the door ' Everything played out in slow motion as soon as she opened that door, she forgot how to breath as she stared right at the same Gray eyes that used to make her tremble, she stumbled backwards once and he just stood there and watched her Like a predator looking at its prey, hands deep in his pockets, he smiled and tilted his head to the side and spoke in a sing song voice"Found you" She knew it was over, she knew that the life she fought so hard for herself and her son was now over because Adrian Kingsley was not a man that would let her slip from his fingers again She slipped once and she will not slip again, and Adrian Kingsley? He refused to lose... Not to anyone else, especially her __ 9 Years ago Emily Carter She walked in that building holding her last dignity, the tall buildings of Kingsley Enterprises, it was all Glasses and concrete but it looked like luxury She looked up at this huge building and thought to herself "Here goes nothing Emily" then as she was about walk in, someone bumped her on the shoulder from behind, she almost fell as she looked up at the person who pushed her He looked handsome... Very handsome for his own good His face turned upside down and he spits on the ground next to her "watch where you're going" then he was in the building She sat there for a couple of seconds as people watched her, she chuckled to herself and stood up, dusting her skirt and proceeding to walk inside the building "So rude, Handsome but ride, why do handsome people like him have to be Rude?" She mumbled as she walked to the receptionist "Good Morning, I am here for the 9 AM Secretary interview" she told the secretary who looked up with a smile but it froze midway as she scanned her up and down Emily had what people on the building would call rags, but to her it was the best she could come up with, she had on her black skirt which was not so black anymore and a shirt that almost turned into a see through and flat old shoes "I Uhm, okay, you can take a seat over there" the receptionist gestured to the empty chairs by the elevator, Emily Smiled and thanked her before turning her heels and walking over to the chairs and took a seat and then she sighed braking out her resume She smiled a little and did a little prayer which was interrupted by the reception, she heard her talk to someone over the phone clearly about her and then laughed out loud, stealing glances at her She looked down feeling a little embarassed and soon enough more candidates walked in and each and every one of them looked at her like she was lost, one girl even commented "Please tell me you're here for the Cleaning position" the others snickered ' If I do not get this of which I highly doubt I will, I will probably even beg for that cleaning position just to get Mr Sterner off my back ' she thought to herself, Mr Sterner was her apartment landlord, the man was as old as her grandfather and he was still as nasty as one can describe him Her thoughts were disturbed by a middle aged looking woman who had an iPad on her hands, she fixed her glasses and looked at all the people seated there "9 AM Secretary candidates?" They all nodded their heads and the woman also nodded "Right this way" They all followed the woman to the elevator and somehow Emily found herself at the back of the elevator, her nerves woke up and she started tapping her foot nervously and somehow ended up counting all the heads in the elevator '15 heads... I'm supposed to compete with 15 heads and half or more of them are actually more qualified than her?' she shook her head and the elevator dinged and they were on the 19th floor __ People went in there and most came out looking upset, the girl that said she hoped she was there for the cleaning position? She came out bawling her eyes out ' What's going on in there?' she asked herself The man infront of her was called and stood up looking confident enough, 5 minutes went by before he came out looking pissed and mumbling under his breath "fucking asshole" he didn't even spare a glance at the remaining candidates as he walked straight to the elevator "Emily Carter!" The woman called her name and she stood up so fast that she pushed the chair back a little The woman showed her the door and Emily nodded before walking in What she walked into was no ordinary boardroom, that was an empire in black, all the chairs were black, the table was made of high-quality wood and looked shiny Her eyes landed on a chair that was on the end of the long table, the person seated there was not facing towards her, rather on the big window out there and she told herself that, that must be a very beautiful view from up here "Sit down Miss Carter" that voice again... Why does it sound familiar? She sat down at the other end of the table and the chair slowly turned to reveal that cold jerk who almost spit on her downstairs "Holy mother of Jesus" she mumbled feeling her heart drop She was now sure she isn't getting this job, not in this company and her heart was telling her to just go down on her knees right now and just beg for the cleaning position while her mind was telling her calm down "We meet again" he said and smirked but nothing was nice about it, she didn't reply, just looked at him "Give me your Resume" he said suddenly and she stood up and walked all the way to him and handed over her Resume and made a mistake to look at him in the eyes, she trembled right there infront of him, he had Stormy Gray eyes, he smirked again and looked down at her Resume She just stood there besides him as he flipped through the pages without even reading anything, her mind was already made up ' He will probably tell me I wasted my time or say something to hurt my feelings like he did to-' her thoughts were cut in the middle by his voice "You're hired"Chapter 11: Mr Kingsley, Why?Emily CarterShe walked all around the house, admiring every interior and touching everything she can touch and she couldn't even believe it at first that she was hereShe walked all around until she found herself in the kitchen once again and the her mind just clicked 'maybe I should cook something to show how much I am thankful?' she said more to herself then she took out the ingredients to make some spaghetti and meatballs, which was something she was good at and was hoping he would like itSomehow she felt uncomfortable, Adrian Kingsley was her boss and being in the same roof as him? That was a different story, she even stopped herself midway making the dinner when her thoughts ran wild ' am I doing too much?' that was the loudest voice but she brushed it off and continued to cook until she was done__An hour later Adrian walked into the house to Emily dishing upHe froze for a second at the door as the aroma filled in the house,he spotted her immedi
Chapter 10: I'm a good person Emily EmilyThe first thing that I felt was nothing, just nothing. It felt like I wasn't even alive, I didn't feel any pain, any hurt... just nothing. And then, as if I was being pulled by an invisible force, I heard a faint beeping sound from a distance.Slowly, I started feeling all my limbs, and soon enough I felt my eyes flutter open. I almost closed them with how bright the room looked, and then I smelt it... I was in the hospital. I should know very well the smell of hospitals, I was up and down for many years before my parents died...Hospital?Then my mind started replaying the moment in slow motion, Willard... Mr Willard. My eyes went huge and my heart started pumping hard as I felt my breath getting shallow, as the scene replayed in my mind faster now, and I started to whimper."No, no!" My voice wavered as I felt the hot tears in my eyes."Emily, Emily," a voice calls out to me, and I turn my head to see Adrian... Mr Kingsley walking in, more
Chapter 9: How can I help you Mr Willard?EmilyI am seated in my apartment, staring at nothing and everything all at once, my mind refusing to rest as it keeps replaying the moment in the elevator over and over again like a cruel reminder that I cannot escape, the way his voice dropped low without warning, the way his eyes lingered on me like he was seeing something he should not, something that made my skin crawl even now as I sit here alone, trying to convince myself that it meant nothing, that I am overthinking it, that I am safe, but the feeling refuses to leave me and instead settles deeper into my chest like a quiet warning I cannot ignoreI sigh again, the sound heavier this time, slipping past my lips without permission as I lose count of how many times I have done that in the last hour alone, it feels like I am trying to breathe out something lodged too deep inside me, something that refuses to move no matter how much I try to push it away, and eventually I force myself to s
Chapter 8: Will you pick that up?EmilyPRESENTI breathe in and out slowly as the knock sounds again, louder this time, heavier, like it carries intention, like it carries him. I already know it’s him. Seth is at school and the house is quiet, too quiet, the kind of silence that presses against your chest until breathing feels like work. I should have left, should have gone out to run some errands, but I didn’t. I stayed, because I knew he would show up and I wanted to be here when he did. My feet move before my mind can catch up, each step toward the door heavier than the last, my heart pounding so hard it feels like it might give me away before I even open it.When I open the door, I am met with those cold grey eyes once again, and my heart betrays me instantly, skipping, stuttering like it remembers him before I can stop it. “Adrian…” I say softly, his name slipping out like it still belongs to him. He slides his hands into his pockets and tilts his head to the left, that same til
