Damon's POV

I hated lying to Sera.

The moment the words left my mouth, I saw the doubt flicker in her eyes. She knew something was off. She always knew.

I sat in my car outside the breakfast shop, gripping the steering wheel until my knuckles turned white. The text message from the Healer burned in my mind.

"I may have found a way to recover your memories. Come see me immediately."

I didn't know what to make of it. Part of me wanted to rush there without a second thought. Another part was terrified of what I might discover.

But looking back at the shop, seeing Sera through the window sitting alone at our table, I remembered my promise to her.

No secrets. No deception. Not between us.

I got out of the car and walked back inside.

Sera looked up, surprise crossing her face. "Damon? I thought you had to leave."

I sat down across from her and took her hands in mine. "I lied. It's not about the rogues."
