Dominic

Chapter4

Dominic was not one to care about much anymore. He had been around for about 700 years now, and everything was running together, boring, mundane, to his existence. In the last 100 years things enhanced with electronics, with education, and with the overall way of life. However, it really could not take out the cruelty and disgust he felt for being what he was. A vampire, which was not by choice either. His maker, who he killed was a selfish man, who prayed on young men. He was in his late 20’s and around then that was old already. However, his maker was already about 500 years old and had control over the land. When Dominic had moved to the area, he was captured for the King’s amusement and fetish. Dominic was a handsome man then, a dark black man, with beautiful smooth skin, which the King found him to be something he needed to possess. He had been tortured and mistreated in many ways during that life. Then the King had turned him, because he did not want Dominic to die from the King’s selfish and careless mistreatment. He was in the King’s mind, priceless to him. Unfortunately for the selfish King, that had proved to be his undoing. Dominic being turned into a monster by the King, had caused something about Dominic to come alive with power, that made him more powerful than the King realize he could ever be. During the haste of turning him, the King needed to give him his blood to cause the rebirth. However, Dominic’s hunger, abuse, pain, anger, and the deep natural ability he already possessed caused him to drain the King dry.  His wounds immediately healed, internally and externally. Although nothing can remove the years of abuse in his mind. He hated anyone in power and who thought they could mistreat anyone like that. He vowed he would not be the same and would not allow anyone else to feel his pain, shame, and disgust. It also helped at that time Vampires were not common either and not really known.

Over time he just gave up. Other vampires toed the line as more came about, and he really didn’t care much. Some got out of hand, but it never touched his area or his concern. He had been through slavery, he had been through racism, and now he was “Top of the World” as he put it. Therefore, after so many years of fighting injustice, and finally just being at a place he could ignore all the ugliness in the world, he was content. Well, so he thought.

He had women and loved no one to be honest. There were human children that he raised and watched grow old and die. The children were the closes to his heart as anyone could be. When he was human, he had a love that he lost when captured by the King. The King sought her out and married her off to his human son. Who was as cruel as his father; she died in childbirth. He thinks because she had a broken heart and did not want to provide him children, however, she was forced to produce an heir.  From the son’s cruelty and abuse she was not well and able to carry the child. The child didn’t live either. Therefore, Dominic had buried his heart, soul, and wants of anything with another person, except children. He was good to them, and they loved him, help watch over his secrets, and stayed closed to his side until they passed. None asked to ever change from what they were to be part of his world and he told them he would never wish it upon any of them. He felt he was not worthy of dying and going to heaven, but he thought if he could help others that would at least make it bearable.

Now Dominic was a good man, a good vampire, with morals and ethics, he didn’t kill for fun or to feed, he lived anywhere, and he lived modestly. He did not like attracting too much attention, because it was hard to disappear if needed to be, especially since he did not age. He was unique by being able to be in sunlight anytime and it never drained or hurt by the sun. He was able to heal and regenerate his cells with blood. He found a way to take the blood he needed, without hurting anyone or draining them. He was strong, like most vampire, he could attract his prey as well, but it was this inner strength that he had, and he was able to manipulate minds if needed to be. He found this out the night he drained the King. He felt the King trying with all his might to remove himself from Dominic’s grip, however, Dominic’s mind had locked into the King’s mind, and he was powerless to push away and escape for his life. Dominic was also able to move objects with is mind and over time he was able to increase his ability to levitate things and himself. He knew of no other vampire that could do that, and he kept that a bit of a secret too.

To Dominic’s fascination, he found himself back at the school looking for that little red head. There was something about her that he could not shake or put his finger on. In fact, he had a wild dream, just last night about her. He didn’t sleep much or need too. He didn’t dream much either. Although this reminded him of when he had been human. He saw her in full glorious color, she was feisty, in a bit of a bind. He woke up feeling as though he needed to warn her. “Well, that was unexpected!”

He could smell she had been there, but her fragrance was faint as if she hadn’t been there in a while. She had a fresh, clean, smell to her and a light aroma of baby oil and baby powder. There was an earthy way about her smell that made her seem grounded and alluring. He followed the sent and notice it led down to the older section of the town. One where no one really ventured too anymore. Not in the last 10 years. There were some intolerable vampires that lived there now and ran the area. In fact, they ran all the good vampires and humans out of the area. He never was worried about it because he lived in the city and didn’t really mess with that stuff anymore. They didn’t really cause too many issues. Well, so he thought. Then unbeknownst to him he saw at the end of the street a streak of red and a dark figure in a confrontation. He stayed in the shadows and approach quickly. Then he realized it was her. She was fighting this vampire, which it looked like she had been protecting the girl on the other side of the lot. His mouth dropped when he saw her spin around and back kick this vampire. Then she ended up throwing what looked to be an old metal rod of some sort at the vampire, straight into his chest. “How, in the hell did she do that!” At his utter amazement the vampire exploded in dust. She smacked her hands together and brushed herself off. She then turned to the girl who was just as shocked as he was. “Who the hell was she! How did she manage to do that and against a vampire? Oh, hell she didn’t need my help.” She picked up the girl and told her she was taking her home. Of course, now he had to follow her. He had to know who she was and how she could do that.

As Amber had dropped the girl off at a house, that was not her home, but her aunt’s home due to the disappearance of her parents. He could hear the aunt speaking to Amber and thanked her for bringing her home safe and sound. She asked if she visited Henry today. “Yes, and he is improving but he still isn’t speaking or really responding much more than a hand squeeze now. I am not sure, but he seems as though he is just either in shock or more like a trance. I hope he comes around soon.” Amber tried reassuring the aunt she would keep in touch as well.

“You are a lovely person Ms. Amber Park, and I am so thankful for you being so sweet to these kids. I don’t know what happened to their parents, but no one still knows where they are. That isn’t like my brother or his wife. My brother would never leave those kids.” The aunt shook her head back and forth, with a worried expression that radiated waves of dread too.

Dominic didn’t like this one bit. He didn’t like that Ms. Park was involved, no matter how she handled herself. He hadn’t seen anyone do what she did as a human. No human could move that fast, with that amount of strength, or calmness. She knew what she was doing. Why had he thought? Why did she know how to that and know how to exterminate a vampire like she did. He chuckled to himself. In all his undead life, he had never come across anyone who did what she did. He knew rust and iron was the key to killing them, because it pollutes their bodies and spreads like wildfire. Staking through the chest and / or heart, well that was just a direct and faster way of exterminating the monster. She had such strength and speed. “Boy she was beautiful the way she moved and executed her plan. I wonder if she has done that before? Of course, she has. That was a technique of grace and beauty. No way! Did I just think that? Okay Dom, where did that come from?” Dominic thought this as he watched and followed Amber Park home and knew where she lived. Then he decided he was coming back to this place and checking out more about the other vampire she took care of.
