I didn't understand why he said, “You don't need to go,” until hours later.

At first, I thought it was possessiveness. The kind that simmered beneath a rich man's controlled voice. Maybe he thought I'd get lost. Or run away. But then the doorbell rang, and everything turned into a scene from a luxury fashion montage.

Miss Claire opened it, her posture straighter than usual, lips pinched into a line that made her look like She'd swallowed a bitter secret. I watched from the couch, confused, my mug of tea untouched and cold in my hand.

Mrs Johnson.

The name still sounded foreign, like someone else's fairytale. Like something I had borrowed, not earned.

The air outside the city courthouse was sharp, dry, and painfully bright, but it still couldn't compete with the heat burning on my face."How could you do that?" I snapped, my heels clicking too fast against the pavement as I tried to keep up with him.Stephen looked sideways at me, a lopsided grin tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Do what?""You kissed me. In front of everyone."He blinked like I was the one being irrational. "You hesitated. I fixed it."I stopped walking. "Fixed it? You practically swallowed my face."He chuckled. Not just any chuckle, but the type that vibrated from his throat like he found me endlessly amusing. "Well, Mrs. Johnson, you're welcome."I hated how that name sounded on his tongue. My heart was still pounding as we reached the car. I didn’t want to get in, but my legs moved anyway. He opened the door for me, like this was normal. Like this was love. Like this wasn’t a transaction signed on government paper under fluorescent lights."Where are we go

By the time I opened my eyes, it was already morning—bright, calm, but too quiet. Stephen was back. As early as 7 a.m. His lips brushed mine before I even had the strength to greet the sun."Good morning," he said, voice thick with warmth. "How was your night?"I blinked the sleep away, nodding slowly. My throat tightened a little. Last night’s conversation—it was still echoing in my mind. But I didn’t ask him. I couldn’t bring myself to. I just said, "Good morning back."He smiled, that crooked, boyish smile that shouldn't have made my heart skip. "You remember you’re going to your workplace today to tell them you’re done, right?" he said. "You’re going to be a married woman soon. You have to start acting like one."He winked at me playfully, but something about it didn’t feel like a joke.My shoes clicked against the restaurant tiles as I walked in, the scent of fried oil and old spices hitting my nose like a memory I didn’t want. I’d worked here for two years—somehow every corner f

The first thing I noticed when I opened my eyes was that the TV was still on, casting flickering blue lights across the living room walls. I had fallen asleep on the couch again. My neck ached from the awkward position, and my mouth was dry.But the second thing I noticed hit me harder. Stephen wasn't still home.I sat up slowly, my eyes adjusting to the dimness. I reached for my phone, tapping the screen. It was 10:07 PM. My heart lurched.Where the hell was he?This wasn't just late. This was alarming.I wasn't talking about 8pm or 9pm. This was late-late. Midnight. And he hadn’t called. Hadn’t texted. Hadn’t even left a note before walking out earlier. All he said was, “Let me go outside. I’m coming.”That was almost five hours ago.Something was off.I stood up and started pacing. My legs itched from unease, and the silence of the house was no longer comforting. It was screaming now. Screaming of secrets, of a void too big to ignore. And then it hit me.I didn’t even have

I sat in the middle of a room I never thought I’d ever enter. A room with cream-colored walls, an abstract painting that looked more expensive than my entire life savings, and silence so loud it echoed in my ears.Stephen had left five minutes ago. Or was it ten? My fingers itched to check the time on my phone, but I couldn’t move. Not because I was scared, but because I was trying to figure out how my life flipped this fast.Just two nights ago, I was sleeping on a worn-out mattress that poked my back like it had a personal vendetta. This morning, my cousin—a child I practically grew up with —was almost disfigured because her own mother saw that a rich man came to ask for my own hand in marriage and her daughter had no suitors. Now… now I was sitting in a stranger's house. No, not a stranger. Stephen. The same man who pulled me into his arms like I was breakable. The same man who said he wanted to marry me.I didn’t know what to do with that information. I mean, who says stuff like

I didn't scream. I didn't cry. I just stood there still as stone, watching my aunt cradle her daughter's body, her arms trembling, her voice a brittle wind as it broke the silence.“What have I done?”She wailed, crouching on the tiled floor beside her daughter like a woman trying to hold onto broken glasses with bare hands. “ Rosy please help me.My bitterness…..My hatred…. has made me hurt my own daughter!” . I watched her from across the door outside. Not once did I take a step forward. Not once did I reach out to ease her grief .“Rosy,please…. Come and help me. Please!”But my legs wouldn't move. My lips parted, but the words burned too much to speak gently. “After all these years”,I said, my voice low but sharp.”After everything have done for you. Every bowl of soup I served, every errand I ran, every slap I swallowed. This…. Is that how you repay me?”. She looked up, face streaked with tears. “I was just bitter towards you. I don't know why,Rosy. I didn't know
