=Damien's POV=

"Kailangan niyo ng tumira sa iisang bubong, Damien. Hindi magiging believable ang kasal kung hiwalay pa rin kayo ng tirahan."

'Yun ang sinabi ng ina ni Seraphina, with that calm, almost motherly tone that didn’t leave room for negotiation.

Hindi ko ugaling nagpapadala sa mga demands. Pero in this case, she was right.

This is business.

So I made the calls.

My penthouse in Makati wasn’t designed for sharing.

It was all structure and silence. Walang clutter. Walang kulay. Every piece of furniture was curated to function, not comfort. And that’s exactly how I liked it.

Pero ngayong may “roommate” ako—at hindi basta roommate si Seraphina Elise Navarro—some adjustments had to be made.

“Add soft linens. Warmer lighting. Make the guest room feel lived in. No pink, no florals,” utos ko sa interior team.

“Sir, any preference for her toiletries or kitchen items—”

“She’ll complain if we don’t stock almond milk and strawberry jam. Just add those. And black coffee.”

She had been constant drinking black coffee in the morning, almond milk when she just liked it, and having a strawberry jam with her crackers or bread. Maybe I’d been paying more attention than I thought.

✴✴✴

That night, I stood in the middle of the now slightly softer penthouse, staring at the guest room door. She even complained to me about the spring rolls and California rolls I had curated just for her. She complained that I should make an effort, not just order something. And I completely shrugged it off earlier by telling her our schedule for tomorrow.

It was strange. Normally, the silence here gave me peace. It felt like a door that I closed was handpicked by someone and then they got into me and messed up my system.

I heard the door open. Footsteps.

Sera. Or that's how I heard her mother called her when she was talking to her through a line.

She didn’t say anything when she passed by the hallway. Just a quick glance and a raised eyebrow, as if she were testing me.

Game face, Damien.

She disappeared into her room, and the hallway went quiet again.

Is she zany?

That's the reason I was hesitant when her mother brought up the living arrangement. Not because I didn’t want her here—but because I wasn’t sure why I wanted her here.

She was messy. Loud. Stubborn.

But she was also magnetic.

And worse? She wasn’t afraid of me.

I’ve seen people stutter in my presence. Sera stares me down like she’s the one holding the upper hand.

And that—that—makes her dangerous.

This arrangement, this fake marriage, was supposed to be straightforward.

But ever since she walked into my office that first day, everything about this deal stopped feeling simple.

The door to her room opened again. She was wearing an oversized shirt, hair tied up. No makeup.

Still beautiful. Still trouble.

“Hindi ka pa matutulog?” she asked, leaning by the kitchen island.

“I don’t sleep early.”

She poured herself water. “Same.”

A beat of silence.

She walked to the glass veranda where I was. She didn't look at me in the eye, but I could feel her presence. Her strong, leading presence.

“This won’t work if you keep looking at me like I’m invading your territory," she said, making me feel like I made her feel that bad. But I cannot feel I did something I am unworthy of, right?

I am always right. She cannot make me feel this way.

“It’s not about territory,” sagot ko, eyes steady on hers while she kept hers away from me, still looking at the view in front of her. “It’s about control.”

“Then you better learn to lose a little, Mr. Vale.” She grinned and walked away.

And for the first time in years, I felt something unfamiliar in my own home:

Chaos.

And I welcomed it.

He named you in an affidavit, Sera," he had said, eyes serious, voice steady. "Framed you. Made it look like you helped him move funds."Para akong nabilaukan sa hangin. Framed. Named. Disputed accounts. Navarro Properties."Sera," Damien’s voice was softer now, sitting beside me. "You don’t have to face this alone."“Hindi ko alam, Damien,” bulong ko, halos pabulong. “Bakit ako?”“I don’t think it’s just about you,” he replied. “I think he wants leverage. Against the company. Against you and maybe even me.”At doon ko naramdaman 'yung urgency.

=Damien's POV=The call came in the next evening—precisely twenty-four hours later.I stepped out onto the balcony to take it, away from Seraphina, who was in the bedroom preparing for tomorrow’s early meeting with the board.“Alvarez?” I answered, voice low.[Got what you need.] he replied. [And you’re not going to like it.]“Tell me anyway.”[Julian Reyes was discharged two weeks earlier than expected. Quietly. Paid off a private medical team to sign the clearances. He’s still recovering, but mobile.]That was fast. Too fast.“Where is he?”[Last tracked—Tagaytay. He’s renting a private villa under a shell company. The property’s been used by several questionable names in the past, mostly offshore investors with links to illegal financing.]“And the company?”

  • Veil of Vows: Play The Billionaire's Game   Chapter Thirty: Quiet Alarms

=Damien's POV=She’d been quiet. Not the kind of silence that felt peaceful—Seraphina’s stillness now was heavy, almost loud in how much it wasn’t saying. I noticed it the moment we got back from the office. She moved around the condo with her usual grace, but her eyes were somewhere else. Not here. Not with me.And I knew exactly when it started—after she told me she visited Julian in the hospital.“You didn’t have to go,” I had told her that morning, carefully, watching for her reaction. She just looked at me, her gaze unreadable. “I needed to,” she said. Her words felt like it has too many layers. Now, hours later, she was curled up on the couch, pretending to read through her laptop screen, but she hadn’t touched the keyboard for minutes. The reflection of the screen danced across her face, but her eyes weren’t following the text.

  • Veil of Vows: Play The Billionaire's Game   Chapter Twenty-Nine: Whispers Behind Glass

=Sera's POV=The city outside the glass walls of ValeCorp blurred into streaks of sunlight and shadow. I sat behind my desk, pretending to be immersed in data sheets, pero totoo niyan, my mind was far away. His words, the way his eyes bore into mine like he still owned a piece of me — they lingered. Worse, they haunted.I chose not to tell Damien. Damien had been more open lately. Mas gentle, mas present. He was trying. And for once, I wanted to protect that."Ate Eli," Camille's voice sliced through my thoughts. "You okay?"I blinked up at her. Just thinking about the pitch," I lied."Well, that I believe," she sa

=Sera’s POV=The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the conference table habang binabasa ko ang huling page ng proposal na dapat kong i-submit bukas. But none of the words stuck. Lahat lumulutang sa isip ko, nagsasapawan, parang ang ingay-ingay kahit walang tunog sa paligid.I’ve reread this paragraph five times. Still nothing.I rubbed my temples, sinubukang i-block out ang echo ng boses ni Julian—“Magiging akin ka rin, Eli.”Nakakabingi.Bumukas ang pinto. Camille peeked in, holding two coffee cups.“Baka kailangan mo ’to,” she said, stepping in and handing me one.I smiled. “You’re a mind reader.”She sat beside me, sipping hers. “You’ve been zoning out all afternoon. Spill. Something’s off.”“Wala. Stress lang.” I took a sip. “'Yung pitch bukas, at saka… marami lang iniisip.

  • Veil of Vows: Play The Billionaire's Game   Chapter Twenty-Seven: What Comes After

=Sera's POV=I stared at my reflection sa salamin ng banyo sa kwarto namin ni Damien. Walang make-up, walang pretensions, just my tired eyes and pale lips. For the past few days, I’ve been forcing myself to function like nothing happened. No one knew what Julian said—no one but me. And I intended to keep it that way.Dahan-dahan kong binasa ang kamay ko. The cold water helped me breathe, kahit papaano. Damien’s footsteps were soft but certain.“Hey,” he called out from outside the bathroom. “Are you okay?”“Yeah,” sagot ko agad. I took one last look at myself before stepping out. I had to be okay. Or at least, I had to look like it.Nakatayo siya sa gilid ng kama, sleeves rolled up, phone in hand. His eyes immediately scanned my face.“You sure?”I nodded, forcing a small smile. &ldq
