The Secret Meeting

Lucian's POV

My head ached with a dull, and noisy throb as I slumped on the couch. My smoking habit had graduated to a whole new level.

Every day, I sit and watch the chaos, I watch the pain, I see innocent lives die, all because of my territory, my war, my need for Jace.

I know Jace wouldn't want this blood on my hands, but that's the only way out, and I just can't help it. Guilt claws relentlessly in my chest, and I honestly don't know what to do next.

But then, an idea surfaced, cold and clear. There was just one, insane way out.

For most of my life, I had never known true peace. All I had known was brutality, terror, and cruelty.

But then Jace walked into my life, and he performed a miracle. With his presence alone, he curbed the relentless evil within me. He was the only one capable of caging that monster, of bringing a semblance of peace to my troubled soul.

For the very first time in a very long while, I felt genuinely warm whenever I was with him. But old

The Serpent’s Crown Jace's POVWell, after the defeat, we were definitely not going to sleep in it and cry all day for failing. We restrategized and got new info. The Vienna International Ball was The Widow's stage. It was the height of diplomatic and financial society, and she chose it for her formal unveiling. Lucian saw it as an insult and a necessary target. I saw it as a trap, a place of death. I could feel it in my skin.We arrived in force, but secretly—Lucian, Dimitri, and myself, hidden in tuxedos and the grim knowledge that this night would not end peacefully, definitely not... The ballroom was golden and showed nothing but wealth and power. But the atmosphere immediately shifted the moment she arrived. The Widow made her appearance not through the main doors, but from a private balcony overlooking the main floor, descending from a curving staircase with the calm of a head of state she never was... She was rugged, so very beautiful, dressed in a simple, severe gown of d

  • Velvet and vengeance: stripped by the enemy    Chapter 117

Cold Embers Jace's POVThe mission to Marseille was supposed to be a clean success, a clean destruction of The Widow’s financial headquarters in the region. I had planned it carefully, taking note of every known possibility, every escape route, and every potential countermeasure. But war is a mix of preparation and chance, and in this case, chance won, so sad.A small security oversight, a single misidentified frequency, led to our failure. The Widow’s forces had anticipated the strike. Our team walked into the war ground we had prepared, but it was too late when we found out that we had just locked ourselves in a brutal, kill zone. We lost dozens of lives in the span of thirty minutes. Men I had lectured, men I had promised safety, they were all gone. The guilt was overwhelming and the weight crashed down on me at once. I was now a writer of death, and my methods had failed. I went through the motions of the analysis, my voice cold and heavy with pain, but inside, I was crumbling

DominionJace's POVLucian’s formal declaration of war was less a statement and more a detonation. He used every available media channel—from cryptic messages slipped into global financial feeds to direct, coded threats sent to every major power broker in the shadow world. He declared The Widow an anarchist, a threat to the stability of the global underworld economy, and the person behind Elio Vargas’s death. He wasn’t just declaring war; he was demanding that the world choose sides. The European underworld was destroyed instantly. The choice was brutal, join Vanguard, with its established routes and massive finance or join The Widow’s Syndicate, with its promise of ideological change and ruthless efficiency, or better still, retreat into the terrified, rapidly growing group of remnants. The lines were drawn in blood and profit and you had to pick a side.My role, newly solidified as Lucian’s strategist, became a whole day nightmare of logistics and cold calculation. I wasn’t carryin

The Mother of Winter Jace's POV Dimitri didn't just tell me The Widow's name; he opened a small, cold window into his past, showing me fragments of the terrifying legacy he was trying to outrun. His memories weren’t biased, they were pained and brutal accounts of his mother's meticulous, rise to power during the vacuum left by Lucian’s early expansions. He showed me, through his pained recollections, how she had moved from an anonymous wife into a power broker. She orchestrated coups in three small nations, not through bombs, but by systematically confusing the opposing political factions, then revealing their corruption simultaneously, letting the chaos consume them both. She bankrupted entire families not with physical threats, but with brilliant, cold-blooded short-selling and financial terrorism, creating a silent crime of wealth. She murdered rivals, not in street fights, but in sophisticated "accidents"—a faulty plane part, a sudden neurological disease, a misinterpreted

A Name from the Grave Jace's POVSeraphina's warning was a poison that refused to leave my heart. It haunted my dreams and clouded my every interaction with Dimitri. I couldn't accept a partial truth, in our world, partial truths were fatal. I cornered Seraphina in her secure server room, demanding the full, unfiltered history of The Widow, not just the sanitized files Lucian had approved.“I need a name, Seraphina,” I insisted, my voice low and urgent. “A real name, not a title. Who was she before she was The Widow?” I queried, my voice heavy with intent. She hesitated, her fingers moving over a locked old database terminal. “This is classified, Jace. Lucian has maintained this silence for decades. Revealing it could destabilize everything,” she warned, her face grim.“It’s already destabilized! Dimitri’s loyalty is breaking, we’ve been framed for murder, and she’s running rings around us. The only thing keeping the Vanguard intact is that Dimitri and Lucian still share a common e

The Double Cross Jace's POVThe silence that followed our escape from Madrid was the most damning evidence of all. Dimitri returned exactly two hours and seven minutes later, emerging from a hidden maintenance tunnel near our rendezvous point. He was calm, his face wiped clean of the tunnel dirt, his clothes perfectly in order, but his eyes were spoke differently and cold.“The trail is gone,” he reported flatly, addressing Lucian. “The surveillance footage on five key streets was wiped. The communication logs between the precinct and the national guard are scrambled. They have no physical evidence, only the witnesses from the banquet hall. The police are now looking for a ghost. Vanguard is publicly implicated, but operationally untouchable.” He stated calmly, trying to catch his breath. It was too good. Too clean. The kind of work that takes hours, not minutes, unless you had people in place, or knew exactly how the system would react. The police trail hadn’t just vanished; it ha
