ADELE'S POV

I held firmly unto the gun like my life depended on it, my life actually did depend on it!

“Let go of the gun!” I heard the voice of the supposed Joe as he roared angrily at me. I had managed to pull out a gun from his colleague's pocket who was holding me. It was a quick decision, as his attention was somewhere else for a split second, and his grip on me loosened. I twisted my arm, grabbed his gun, hit him square in the face with it, before shooting at their boss who was acting like my life was some chess game.

He can't just tear up my divorce papers and think that automatically still makes me Eric's wife–sure, in the eyes of the law, but no one seemed my permission before coming up with terms that involved me being collateral damage.

The mafia leader paused at the door and turned slightly, giving me half a view of his face before turning away. For a second my eyes caught a glimpse of what looked like a smirk on his face, he certainly was enjoying this.
