Chapter 13

We walked at a quickened pace while Max kept his car parallel with us.  I have to agree with Megan.  It did make me feel a bit childish, but I could understand his need to do it since he didn’t want to drive on without us and I was refusing to get into the car.

When we reached the driveway, he pulled past us and headed around to the morgue entrance.  I pulled my keys from the pocket in the waist of my yoga pants as we walked around to the back of the house and opened up the door to the morgue.  Max was quick to open the trunk of his car and heave the limp werewolf over his shoulder.  Even though it hung lifeless, I still put a cautious distance between us.  After all, the werewolf that Evan had brought to me had looked dead too.

Max heaved the beast onto the examination table with much less grace than Evan had done with his werewolf.  I shook my head and silently chastised myself for comparing the two men.  One was a vampir
