Chapter 3

Author: Peace 05
I pointed to the folder on the table.

"This folder contains the records of every payment I made over the past five years.

“It also has the full screenshot of Ella's conversation from yesterday, when she showed off her 5,000-dollar Louis Vuitton handbag in the group chat."

I leaned back in my seat, my eyes sweeping across Mr. Lang and Mr. Sullivan.

"You will also find five years of my WhatsApp backend records inside. There was no private harassment through WhatsApp since I never talked to Ella privately.

”You can have your technical department conduct whatever verification is necessary."

Mr. Lang opened the folder and examined the evidence carefully, noting that the complete screenshots showed that Ella had not only been flaunting her handbag but had also mocked the other female students for using canvas bags, calling them low-class.

He closed the folder and took a deep breath.

"You're obviously in the clear based on this evidence, Mr. Goodwin. Ella, on the other hand, has fabricated the allegations and deliberately defamed you."

Upon seeing how things turned out, Mr. Sullivan quickly jumped in to play peacemaker.

"Just as I thought! You're one of the most generous donors on our board of trustees, so there's no way you would ever do a thing like that, Mr. Goodwin! It was all just a huge misunderstanding!"

I looked at him coldly. "Since this was all a misunderstanding, how is the university going to deal with Ella?"

Mr. Sullivan wiped the sweat from his forehead, looking troubled. "Ella just made a foolish mistake because she let her vanity get the better of her, Mr. Goodwin. She's about to graduate soon, so a disciplinary record could seriously affect her future."

He then leaned forward and suggested softly. "How about this, Mr. Goodwin? Kingsford University will have Ella apologize to you privately in writing.

"You, on the other hand, will put out a statement online, admitting that your poor word choice in the group chat had caused all these misunderstandings. How does that sound?"

I almost laughed from sheer frustration. I couldn't believe that he was asking me, the one providing the funding, to compromise with the person who had falsely accused me just to make the problem disappear.

"Are you seriously asking me to let this go and continue funding them, Mr. Sullivan?"

Mr. Sullivan chuckled awkwardly. "You're a successful businessman, so there's surely no need to take this so seriously with a few underprivileged students, Mr. Goodwin. They're still considered the disadvantaged ones here, after all."

I nodded, my fingers tapping against the desk. "I'll do you this favor since you're the one asking for it, Mr. Sullivan."

Mr. Sullivan's expression brightened. "You're truly magnanimous, Mr. Goodwin! That financial aid—"

I cut him off, "I'm willing to restore the funding, but given the issues this incident has exposed regarding the use of the funds, I've decided to enforce the additional clause in the sponsorship agreement we signed."

Mr. Sullivan was stunned. "What additional clause?"

Richard handed over a copy of the agreement before reading aloud. "Article 7 of the Kingsford University Sponsorship Agreement clearly states that if a recipient uses the funds for anything other than education or basic living expenses, the sponsor may terminate the funding immediately.

"The recipient will then be required to repay twice the total amount previously received. The sponsor also reserves the right to file a civil lawsuit."

Mr. Sullivan’s face drained of color in an instant. "That could mean tens of thousands of dollars in repayment, Mr. Goodwin! How could they possibly pay it back?"

"They'll just have to figure that out themselves," I replied as I stood up and looked down at him.

Then I turned to Richard. "Go issue the legal department's collection notices and begin recovery procedures right away for all students guilty of misappropriating the funds, starting with Ella, Harry, and Maisie.

“If we don't see the money in three days, go to court for asset preservation and have all their accounts frozen."

Kingsford University plunged into chaos the day after the double-repayment clause took effect.

The legal department's demand letters had been sent to every student who had violated the agreement.

It was found that out of the 60 recipients, 42 of them had misused the funds—some used them on travel, some tipped suggestive livestreamers, and others even loaned out the funds to charge high interest.

Three months had passed, and the first snow of early winter covered the streets of Kingsford. Richard placed an officially stamped document on my desk and said, "Ella's first-instance verdict is out, Mr. Goodwin. She has given up her right to appeal and was officially transferred to a women's prison today to begin serving her sentence."I didn't even bother to look at the court ruling. I fed it right into the shredder, the motor humming softly as it worked, turning the documents into scraps."What about Harry?" I asked, continuing to sign the documents without looking up.Richard's tone was laced with mockery. "I heard that Harry collapsed on the job site a few days ago and broke his leg, a result of poor health from years of late-night gaming. "He can't afford to see a doctor now, so he just lies in the construction worker's shed moaning in pain every day, hoping someone will start a fundraiser for him. He didn't receive any help since the entire internet knows what he did."I

Three days later, Richard suddenly informed me. "Mr. Smith just made an international video call, Mr. Goodwin." I was in the chairman's office on the top floor of Goodwin Group when Richard handed me the tablet. The caller's smiling face appeared on the screen. He greeted me in accented Caldorianese. "I'm really glad to see you, Mr. Goodwin. I have to apologize for how rash I was before. Your respect for the law and commitment to honored agreements in that live stream had won over our board. We're putting that 200-million-dollar deal back on the table and extending the agreement term by five years."I offered a polite smile and nod. "Thank you for placing your trust in us, Mr. Smith. Goodwin Group definitely won't let you down."Once the video call ended, I leaned back in the leather office chair, looking at the documents on my desk. "What happened to those aid recipients, Richard?"Richard adjusted his glasses and replied, "It's all taken care of. Harry, Maisie, and the other 4

"I'm really sorry, Mr. Goodwin. Please don't press charges against me!" Harry, who had just regained consciousness, exclaimed as he dropped to his knees. He scrambled over to my feet and grabbed my shoes, crying uncontrollably. "I've learned my lesson now! Ella was the one who talked me into it! I'll sell my high-end gaming laptop and even sell my game account to pay you back, Mr. Goodwin!"Maisie fell to her knees beside him, her makeup smudged from all the crying. "I swear I'll never step into a nightclub again! I'll do whatever dirty work you want, so please don't get me expelled, Mr. Goodwin!"I kicked Harry's hand aside and took two steps backward. "Richard…""Yes, Mr. Goodwin?" Richard stepped forward right away with the collection notice.I looked coldly at the group of people on the floor who had once attacked me online. "Go apply for judicial enforcement."Harry must repay double the 42,500 dollars in financial aid, totaling 85,000 dollars. Maisie must return 67,000 doll

"He's the one openly spreading false rumors and slandering us on the live stream! He's even making threats against us students!" Ella bellowed. That was when the doors to the auditorium swung open, and a few uniformed police officers strode inside.Ella rushed over and pointed at me. "You have to arrest him now, officer! He not only forged the evidence, but he also slandered me!"The police officer leading the group frowned and avoided Ella's hand as she gestured wildly. He surveyed the auditorium with a cold expression and asked, "Who is Ella Lowe?"Ella froze and pointed to herself. "I'm Ella Lowe."With a crisp click, the handcuffs were secured around Ella's wrists. She widened her eyes in surprise and asked, "W-What are you doing? You've got the wrong person! I'm the victim here!"The police officer calmly produced a warrant and held it up in front of her face. "We have received an official report backed by solid evidence, Ms. Lowe. "You're suspected of forging government d

"You're spouting nonsense! You fabricated all of this evidence! You're gaslighting me!" Ella snapped. She shrieked from below the stage, trying to mask her panic by screaming at the top of her lungs. She abruptly turned and seized Harry's arm. "You have to tell them right now, Harry! Hugo forced us to do it! He was constantly degrading us in the group chat!"Harry was trembling all over.I raised my hand to stop him just as he was about to speak up. "Since you brought up Harry, let's take a look at how one of the scholarship recipients actually spends his time."In that instant, the footage on the big screen changed again to surveillance footage from an internet cafe. Harry sat slumped in a gaming chair, furiously tapping his keyboard and hurling insults at the screen before him. He had his high-end gaming laptop placed on the table next to him."You were diagnosed with uremia two years ago," I said in a cold, unyielding tone, my voice cutting through the silent auditorium. "So

Ella wept right into the camera, tears streaming down her face. "Do you guys see what's happening here? Hugo's legal team is trying to ruin me and drive me to the brink!"Ella's live stream viewership was rising rapidly."How disgusting! Does having money give someone the right to do whatever they please?""We have your back! We will support you no matter what, Ella!"Ella flashed a triumphant smirk as hostile comments directed at me filled up the comment section. She was convinced that she now had an online audience large enough to ruin me.I straightened my suit and walked to the large screen at the center of the stage. "Patch it through, Richard.""Got it, Mr. Goodwin," Richard replied before typing rapidly across the keyboard. In that instant, the projection screen came on, and the feed was sent to every media outlet's live stream at the venue. The screen displayed the clear surveillance footage from the LV store at Sterling Plaza, with the timestamp showing that it was a
