Chapter 2

Author: Fifteenth Month
After some time, a high fever set in. I could feel my whole body burning.

Still dazed, I was dragged into a car and taken back to Harker Manor. Once we arrived, some men threw me into the main hall roughly. I swayed so badly that I could barely stay on my feet.

Countless eyes fell on me. I saw mockery, pity, and arrogant disdain in the gazes directed my way.

"So, this is the true love Mr. Harker spent seven years pursuing? Tsk. She's nothing special."

"True love? She's just a woman from the slums who sold herself for a good price."

"Look at the miserable Voucher Wife. She schemed her way into the Harker family, only to end up without a single penny to her name. How pathetic."

When everyone noticed Yannick's gradually darkening face, the whispers slowly died down.

Tracy smiled sweetly as she accompanied Yannick around the room, toasting the guests one by one.

When she reached me, she bit her lip and put on a conflicted expression. "Are you still mad at me, Colette? You went over your spending limit this month. I was worried you'd develop bad spending habits, so I canceled the rest of your vouchers. It's all my fault.

"I prepared this banquet and surprise for you to make up for it. Can't you forgive me?"

Under everyone's amused gaze, Yannick's expression darkened further. He grabbed my chin and forcibly poured wine into my mouth. Then, he picked up the rest of the red wine and dumped it over my face.

He snapped, "Who exactly are you giving that attitude to? If you still don't know your place, then get out and come back after you've come to your senses!"

The alcohol stung my eyes so badly that I couldn't open them.

Amid the chaos, a trembling voice cried, "Blood... Her legs are covered in blood!"

Yannick froze. The moment he saw the rapidly growing pool of blood at my feet, his pupils contracted sharply.

Instinctively, he reached out toward me.

But before he could touch me, Tracy suddenly said, "Colette, did you refuse to spend even a penny of your own money on a pack of sanitary pads when you couldn't use the vouchers? Even if you're trying to make Yannick feel sorry for you, you shouldn't dirty yourself on purpose… It's disgusting."

Contemptuous snickers echoed throughout the hall.

A loud buzz filled my mind, and an overwhelming sense of humiliation swallowed me whole like a tidal wave.

Fighting the sting in my eyes, I stammered, "No... That's not it. I didn't..."

"Enough! Haven't you embarrassed yourself enough?" The concern in Yannick's eyes vanished, replaced by deep disgust and revulsion.

He took half a step back and ordered the maids sternly, "Take her upstairs and get her cleaned up!"

I opened my mouth. Then, I gave up trying to explain.

Yannick would never believe me.

As four or five maids dragged me upstairs, I looked back at Yannick one last time.

Tears slipped down my face without warning. After seven years of loving him and one year of marriage, our relationship ended. All that was left for me was my broken body and the fact that my mother and my baby were both gone.

"Yannick, I don't owe you anything anymore," I thought sadly.

Yannick flew me on his private jet to take me back to Grisport. Once we landed, he locked me inside the villa. Ironically, this was the most time we had spent together in years. When Tracy learned that Yannick had returned to Grisport, she called him countless times. Every call was the same. She cried about how miserable her life had been and told him how much she missed him.I had assumed that the moment he received her call, he would rush to her side. But to my surprise, he coldly rebuked her and warned her never to call again. Then, he turned to look at me affectionately and swore earnestly, "I'm sorry, Coco. I'll never let her appear in front of you again. Don't worry. From now on, I'll devote myself only to you. You must be hungry. I'll make you some pasta, okay? That's your favorite."I looked at him indifferently without saying a word. After Yannick finished cooking the pasta, he carefully placed the plate in front of me with a pleading look in his eyes."Coco, please hav

Yannick did exactly what he said he would. When I was at work, he stubbornly sat in the cafe all day long. When I went back to my apartment, he sat in his car outside, smoking one cigarette after another."I won't bother you, but please don't make me leave," he said.In just a few days, he became visibly more gaunt. One night, after pushing himself beyond his limits, Yannick crashed his car into a highway guardrail. From the hospital, he called me. "Colette, I'm in so much pain. Can you come see me?"At that moment, I was pouring latte art for a customer's coffee. The instant I answered the call, my hand trembled, and the pattern in the cup became crooked.I said, "I'm busy. I don't have time to play whatever game this is."After hanging up, I apologized to the customer and remade the coffee before serving it.I later heard that Yannick had gotten seriously injured. He had been covered in blood and trapped inside the driver's seat for a long time before anyone rescued him.A

Yannick had lost a lot of weight. He looked haggard, disheveled, and heartbreakingly fragile. For a moment, I was lost in thought. In the past, whenever his eyes reddened pitifully, my heart would soften. I would relent and surrender without hesitation. No matter what he'd done, as long as he humbled himself and pleaded tenderly, we would always make up.But now, faced with his sorrow, I felt nothing. If anything, I was only irritated that my peaceful life had been disrupted.Yannick strode toward me and pulled me tightly into his arms. His voice trembled with the sense of relief of finding something he thought he'd lost forever. He said, "I've been looking for you for so long, Coco. I thought I'd never see you again."I struggled to break free, but he held me too tightly. His voice that came from above my head carried the faint hint of a sob. "You're still angry with me, aren't you? Coco, I was just angry. I hated that you didn't choose me at our wedding, but I never wanted to

Yannick's hand shot out to grab my arm. His voice was so hoarse that it sounded as though it had been forced out of his lungs. "This is an abortion report. What does this mean? Colette, tell me... It's not what I think, is it?"Yannick dropped into a crouch tremblingly, his eyes fixed on the ultrasound report. He saw from the report that I'd been three weeks pregnant. The fetal heartbeat had been developing normally… Toward the end, it stated that the pregnancy had been terminated. The signature at the bottom was shaky and uneven, with traces of blood smeared across it.It read, "Colette."The surgery had been performed on the very day of our wedding anniversary.Yannick's eyes turned bloodshot, and his voice caught in his throat. "The blood on you that day..."I looked at him calmly, though the memories of that day still made my chest ache. "Yes. You said it was filthy."The color instantly drained from Yannick's face. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but all he c

  • Voucher Wife: Bought, Used, Then Discarded   Chapter 5

That night, I walked six miles barefoot to Mom's grave. The skin on the soles of my feet was rubbed raw and bloody from the constant friction with the jagged road. Every step I took left behind a bloody footprint. Every step hurt enough to keep me painfully awake. When I saw the photo on her headstone, I wiped the dirt from my face and forced an ugly smile. I said, "Mom, I'm sorry. I didn't have the money to buy you lilies. You loved me so much. I'm sure you won't blame me, right?"Leaning against her headstone, I rambled on and on, saying everything I had kept inside. At some point, I drifted off to sleep.Just before dawn, I said goodbye to Mom and left the cemetery.Back at the villa, Tracy was sitting at the dining table wearing my silk robe. The exposed skin on her body showed a cluster of suggestive red marks. When she saw me come in, she deliberately snuggled closer to Yannick. Then, she made sure to put on a frightened expression as she said, "Colette, Yannick was worrie
