Chapter 4

Autor: Fifteenth Month
Yannick grabbed me by the collar and dragged me outside, barely able to contain the rage in his eyes.

He roared, "If anything happens to Tracy, I'll kill you and bury you with her!"

My face still burned from the slap.

It wasn't until I saw Tracy's pale, terrified face that I understood why Yannick was so furious.

Just the night before, a group of thugs had dragged her into an alley with no surveillance cameras. If a passerby hadn't come to her rescue and contacted Yannick, no one could've imagined what would've happened to her.

The moment Tracy saw me, she trembled violently.

With reddened eyes, she dropped to her knees in front of me and pleaded, "I'm sorry, Mrs. Harker. Please, let me go. They tore at my clothes and yanked my hair brutally. I'll stay far away from Mr. Harker from now on. I'll never cancel your vouchers again.

"I won't ever dare do it again. Please... Just spare me..."

The police had found two things on those thugs. The first was the vouchers that only I used in all of Grisport. The second was a photo of Tracy.

On the back of the photo was a single sentence. "Ruin this woman. I want her reputation destroyed."

It was in my handwriting.

Yannick took a deep breath and fixed an icy stare on me. "What else do you have to say for yourself?"

I opened my mouth to explain, but when I met Yannick's frosty glare, I couldn't force out a single word.

Silence filled the room.

After a long while, I finally heard my hoarse and raspy voice say, "I didn't do it."

Yannick smiled. It was a very faint smile, yet it filled me with a terrible sense of foreboding.

I saw it coming.

The next second, he wiped that expression from his face and said to the bodyguards behind him, "Mrs. Harker seems to have a poor memory. She's forgotten what she did. Take her to the scene and help her remember."

I stumbled backward, but the towering bodyguards restrained me firmly and dragged me toward the alley where Tracy had been attacked. The pitch-black alley and the men's shrill, unsettling laughter assaulted my nerves from every direction.

The moment I was shoved out of the car, tears streamed down my face. In a panic, I reached out and grabbed Yannick's pant leg.

I begged, "It wasn't me. I swear… Yannick, you can't do this to me. No! Yannick! No!"

I struggled with all my strength, but his men dragged me forcefully into the darkness.

Inside the car, Yannick held Tracy in his arms and raised a hand to cover her eyes. "Don't look. It's filthy."

I let go.

Just as my clothes were being torn to shreds and I was about to be violated, I felt around and found a sharp piece of broken glass.

With a sickening squelch, warm blood spurted out, splattering onto the face of the man closest to me. I raised the shard of glass and pressed it against my throat.

In a trembling, desperate voice, I warned, "If any of you touch me again, I'll take my own life right now. Every one of you will be murderers, and none of you will get away with it!"

The man flinched.

He hesitated and turned to look at Yannick. "Mr. Harker?"

Yannick looked at the bloodstains covering my face, his eyes unreadable. "Do you admit to your crime now?"

He sounded so casual, as if he were asking about the weather.

My eyes were utterly lifeless, and my sunken face was absolutely devoid of color.

I nodded once. Then, I nodded again, collapsing to my knees.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done it," I said listlessly.

At last, Yannick seemed satisfied. Without sparing me another glance, he left with Tracy.

He said, "If you admit to committing the act, then you deserve to be punished."

The noisy alley fell silent.

I picked up the tattered coat from the ground and barely managed to cover my body. Tears fell one by one into the mud. The broken glass had sliced my palm until it was a bloody mess.

I whispered in a broken voice, "Yannick, falling in love with you was the greatest mistake I ever made."

Yannick flew me on his private jet to take me back to Grisport. Once we landed, he locked me inside the villa. Ironically, this was the most time we had spent together in years. When Tracy learned that Yannick had returned to Grisport, she called him countless times. Every call was the same. She cried about how miserable her life had been and told him how much she missed him.I had assumed that the moment he received her call, he would rush to her side. But to my surprise, he coldly rebuked her and warned her never to call again. Then, he turned to look at me affectionately and swore earnestly, "I'm sorry, Coco. I'll never let her appear in front of you again. Don't worry. From now on, I'll devote myself only to you. You must be hungry. I'll make you some pasta, okay? That's your favorite."I looked at him indifferently without saying a word. After Yannick finished cooking the pasta, he carefully placed the plate in front of me with a pleading look in his eyes."Coco, please hav

Yannick did exactly what he said he would. When I was at work, he stubbornly sat in the cafe all day long. When I went back to my apartment, he sat in his car outside, smoking one cigarette after another."I won't bother you, but please don't make me leave," he said.In just a few days, he became visibly more gaunt. One night, after pushing himself beyond his limits, Yannick crashed his car into a highway guardrail. From the hospital, he called me. "Colette, I'm in so much pain. Can you come see me?"At that moment, I was pouring latte art for a customer's coffee. The instant I answered the call, my hand trembled, and the pattern in the cup became crooked.I said, "I'm busy. I don't have time to play whatever game this is."After hanging up, I apologized to the customer and remade the coffee before serving it.I later heard that Yannick had gotten seriously injured. He had been covered in blood and trapped inside the driver's seat for a long time before anyone rescued him.A

Yannick had lost a lot of weight. He looked haggard, disheveled, and heartbreakingly fragile. For a moment, I was lost in thought. In the past, whenever his eyes reddened pitifully, my heart would soften. I would relent and surrender without hesitation. No matter what he'd done, as long as he humbled himself and pleaded tenderly, we would always make up.But now, faced with his sorrow, I felt nothing. If anything, I was only irritated that my peaceful life had been disrupted.Yannick strode toward me and pulled me tightly into his arms. His voice trembled with the sense of relief of finding something he thought he'd lost forever. He said, "I've been looking for you for so long, Coco. I thought I'd never see you again."I struggled to break free, but he held me too tightly. His voice that came from above my head carried the faint hint of a sob. "You're still angry with me, aren't you? Coco, I was just angry. I hated that you didn't choose me at our wedding, but I never wanted to

Yannick's hand shot out to grab my arm. His voice was so hoarse that it sounded as though it had been forced out of his lungs. "This is an abortion report. What does this mean? Colette, tell me... It's not what I think, is it?"Yannick dropped into a crouch tremblingly, his eyes fixed on the ultrasound report. He saw from the report that I'd been three weeks pregnant. The fetal heartbeat had been developing normally… Toward the end, it stated that the pregnancy had been terminated. The signature at the bottom was shaky and uneven, with traces of blood smeared across it.It read, "Colette."The surgery had been performed on the very day of our wedding anniversary.Yannick's eyes turned bloodshot, and his voice caught in his throat. "The blood on you that day..."I looked at him calmly, though the memories of that day still made my chest ache. "Yes. You said it was filthy."The color instantly drained from Yannick's face. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but all he c

That night, I walked six miles barefoot to Mom's grave. The skin on the soles of my feet was rubbed raw and bloody from the constant friction with the jagged road. Every step I took left behind a bloody footprint. Every step hurt enough to keep me painfully awake. When I saw the photo on her headstone, I wiped the dirt from my face and forced an ugly smile. I said, "Mom, I'm sorry. I didn't have the money to buy you lilies. You loved me so much. I'm sure you won't blame me, right?"Leaning against her headstone, I rambled on and on, saying everything I had kept inside. At some point, I drifted off to sleep.Just before dawn, I said goodbye to Mom and left the cemetery.Back at the villa, Tracy was sitting at the dining table wearing my silk robe. The exposed skin on her body showed a cluster of suggestive red marks. When she saw me come in, she deliberately snuggled closer to Yannick. Then, she made sure to put on a frightened expression as she said, "Colette, Yannick was worrie
