JASMINE POV

The sun had started to dip, painting the sky with that warm, peachy glow that made everything look softer. The water was getting cold; I shivered slightly as I climbed out of the pool. I wrapped myself in a towel and sat on one of the lounge chairs, drying my legs slowly while watching the clouds.

William had left about thirty minutes ago. His father had called for him, and with the way he sighed before going, I knew it wasn’t going to be a light conversation.

I was just tying my towel tighter when I heard soft footsteps behind me.

“So… what made you marry my cousin?” Haley’s voice came with a teasing grin as she plopped down beside me. She wrung her hair out and stretched out like a cat in the sun.

I blinked. “That’s… direct.”

She shrugged. “I’m nineteen. Subtlety isn’t my thing.”

I chuckled. “Love, of course,” I said too quickly. Then I laughed, mostly to cover how weird it sounded.

“Right,” Haley drawled. “Because that’s always the reason people marry in this family.”

JASMINE POV. I didn’t remember much about the ride home—only that the car felt smaller than usual, like the air inside had been sucked out and replaced with static.I kept my eyes glued to the window, counting the streetlights as they passed. One, two, three. Anything to keep from thinking. Anything to keep from falling apart in front of him.William didn’t say a word, and I didn’t either. When we pulled into the driveway, I unbuckled my seatbelt and got out before he even killed the engine. My heels clicked angrily against the marble floor as I stormed into the house and went straight for my room. I heard him call my name, but I slammed the door shut.I didn’t want to hear it. Not now.He knocked, voice soft and careful. “Jasmine…”I didn’t answer.“I’m sorry,” he said. “I didn’t mean to upset you. I didn’t think it would affect you like that.”I bit down on my lip until it hurt. My chest was burning. My stomach felt hollow. I wished I could scream or throw something, but all I coul

WILLIAM POV. Jasmine said she was fine, but I could hear her sniff quietly beside me. She kept her face turned to the window, her arms crossed. I reached out to hold her hand, but she flinched. I swallowed hard and pulled away, pretending not to notice.Did she hate me that much? Did I disgust her that deeply that the idea of even pretending to have a child with me was enough to unravel her like this? We didn’t say anything for the rest of the ride.I didn’t mean to upset her. I wasn’t asking her to have a child with me—to take the test. It was a stupid tradition my father insisted on. But clearly, it hit her harder than I expected. When we got home, she went straight to her room and slammed the door. I followed.“Jasmine,” I called out, knocking softly. No answer.“I’m sorry,” I said quietly, my voice pressed against the door's grain. “I didn’t mean to upset you. I did not think it would… affect you like that.”Nothing.I leaned my head against the door, closing my eyes. “I’m not a

  • WIFE TO A CHEATER BRIDE TO A BILLIONAIRE    CHAPTER 55

JASMINE POVThe last time I was around, most of William’s family was at our fake wedding. Now we were all gathered again in a beautiful hall with good food, but honestly? It felt more like a board meeting than a family reunion.William kept his hand loosely wrapped around mine as he spoke to one of his cousins in that formal, guarded tone he always used around them. Apparently, it was a tradition for the Stone family to gather like this every six months—to “strengthen their bond,” or so they claimed. But from what I could tell, none of them actually liked each other. He took me down a hallway lined with old artifacts and ancient portraits, things that looked like they belonged in a museum, not tucked away in some private estate for family bragging rights.“When you said family event, I expected fun,” I muttered. “Something wild and spontaneous. But I should have known better. A snobbish mother, a weirdly quiet father, and you, a bipolar son.”William gave me a sideways look. “It’s sup

JASMINE POV.I was slightly taken aback by Kimberly. What did she mean by that?I rolled my shoulders back and offered a small, practiced smile. “What are you talking about?”Her lips curled. “You knew I didn’t get the contract. You were just trying to mock me.”I lifted my champagne glass. Took a slow sip. “Mock you? Kimberly, please. The whole world knows I care for you.” The lie sat bitter on my tongue, but I said it anyway. Smooth. Polished. Useless.“You might have lost this one,” I added softly, “but who knows? The gala might help you bounce back.”She narrowed her eyes. “Drop the fake noble act. Everyone can see you are trying to sabotage me. But guess what?” Her voice lowered a note. “I see through you, Jasmine. And I have prepared in advance.”I let out a light laugh and gently touched her arm, like she had just told me the best joke of the night. “Oh, Kimberly. You are something else.”I could feel people watching us. I knew how this looked, two women with history, standin

  • WIFE TO A CHEATER BRIDE TO A BILLIONAIRE    CHAPTER 53

JASMINE POVIn the two weeks since the nightmare incident, William had barely spoken to me. He wouldn’t meet my eyes and only ever discuss things related to my schedule or business. Then, he would disappear into his room or bury himself in work. Whatever progress I thought we had made had taken ten steps backward.I sighed, stirring my coffee absentmindedly as I scrolled through the internet. Maybe this was better. In a couple of weeks, the charity gala will finally happen. Hopefully, by then, I would have had all the evidence I needed to take down Kimberly and prove that she was behind the attempt on my life. After that, William and I could part ways quietly, and I could slowly bring my new catering company into the spotlight again. Until then, the distance between us was safer. Cleaner.Still, I couldn’t ignore how security around the house had increased. The guards kept a respectful distance, but it was hard not to notice the extra eyes. I understood why. William had taken a bullet
