Chapter 2

Claire wanted to speak up, but Evan suddenly grabbed her from behind.

I then noticed our wedding rings were now on their fingers.

After all that talk about me losing my wedding ring while working abroad, it turned out to be just an excuse for Claire to give it to her lover.

"Mr. Warren, please don't blame Claire, it's all my fault…"

Looking at his pretentious expression, I let out a cold laugh. I grabbed the wine next to me and splashed it on him.

Claire then slapped me in the face and shouted, "Jake Warren! Have you had enough?!"

She then spoke grimly, "Go outside for now. I'll explain everything to you later."

Feeling the sharp pain on my cheek, I pointed at the baby in Susan's arms.

"What is there to explain?"

The baby started crying loudly after all the commotion.

Evan, who stood behind Claire, stepped forward and shouted, "Jake, I know you can't stand me. But no matter what, the child is innocent!

"I felt sorry for you and your family. That's why I have never told anyone about your feelings for Claire all these years.

"If us being together is the reason you'd harm my child, then I'd rather not get married…"

Hearing that, Claire quickly pulled Evan behind her.

"What are you talking about?!

"I will never marry anyone but you!"

Evan forced a smile, turned to the crowd, and said, "Sorry for the embarrassment. He is just a junior employee at our company. He just happens to know both Claire and me.

"Because his family is not well-off, Claire took pity on him and brought him into our company.

"But I never expected him to mistake Claire's sympathy for love and fall for her.

"All these years, he's kept bothering us. And now he's going as far as using our child to blackmail us. I really don't know what to do anymore."

I remained silent and stared at Evan. I was curious to hear what other absurdities could come out of his mouth.

"Disgusting! Somebody lends you a hand, and you cling to them."

"How could such a person remain in our company? We need to fire him this instant!"

"Call the police! This scumbag belongs in jail!"

I couldn't help but smirk at their angry remarks.

"Evan, have you forgotten how you were back then when you called me 'Mr. Jake' over and over?

"To get the job and a promotion, you cried and begged me to hand over the projects I was working on.

"Do you need me to play the video of you kneeling down and begging me, so everyone can see?

"Claire even swore in front of me that whatever you two had was long over.

"So, it turns out you two had slept together.

"Aren't you afraid your words will come back to haunt you?!"

Before I could finish talking, my mother-in-law grabbed the cake on the table and smashed it onto my head.

"I've watched the two of them grow up. Evan has endured countless hardships for Claire.

"He worked hard on projects and delivered results. Everyone witnessed his efforts.

"How dare you accuse him!

'Working on projects? Delivering results?

Hah! Had Evan ever completed a single project by himself?

But the other executives immediately chimed in, "Exactly! You have no idea how many investment deals Mr. White has secured for the company! How dare you belittle him as a mere employee!"

"This lunatic should be fired immediately and get out of the company!"

"It is only because Ms. Luna is kind enough to keep you around."
