Chapter 2

After getting in the car, Serena put the pregnancy test kit into her bag.

Just then, her assistant Hannah rang her. "Ms. Serena, the client just called and wants us to deliver the Roland Artifact by tomorrow."

Serena frowned. "Didn't the client agree to the week-long deadline?"

"Something happened on the other end, apparently… The client's supervisor said that money wouldn't be an issue if the artifact could be acquired on time."

Serena thought about it for a bit and replied, "Then tell the supervisor that the earliest we can do is the day after tomorrow, with a 50% increase in fees."

"But the supervisor was very firm about it…"

"Well, that's the earliest we can get it delivered," Serena said firmly. "If it's unacceptable, I can give a refund."

"Got it, I'll let the client know."

After Hannah hung up, Serena was about to put down the phone when she accidentally tapped on a notification about a post that had gone viral.

Coincidentally enough, it was a post of Silas.

To be more specific, it was a post of Silas and Dawn Zeller, a diva on the silver screen at the peak of her popularity.

Silas' face wasn't fully in the photo taken by the paparazzi, but Serena immediately recognized him even just from a side profile.

And so, she just stared at that photo for a very, very long time.

Her eyelashes fluttered slightly, then she swiped away and tapped on Dawn's account.

As expected, Dawn posted a photo at five of a sunrise, along with a sappy caption.

"After searching the world, I ended up where I started. Thankfully, you were still there."

Serena looked at the photo—it was as if she could see Dawn and Silas watching the sunrise together, arms wrapped around each other.

So that was why he left in such a hurry last night—it was to watch the sunrise with the woman he loved.

Serena scoffed at herself mockingly for being so pathetic.

She knew full well that she didn't hold a place in his heart, yet couldn't help but pay attention to everything he did. She felt like a filthy mouse, hiding in the shadows and watching the man she loved unseen.

She couldn't control her heart, like a moth to a flame.

Honestly, even she looked down upon herself.

Thankfully, Dawn had already returned from overseas.

Naturally, Serena concluded that Silas was going to ask for a divorce soon.

Honestly, that was probably the best solution.

Once they had a divorce, she could fully take a step back and become utterly uninvolved in Silas' world. The two of them would be nothing more than strangers.

When that time came, her pathetic, laughable emotions could finally come to an end…

Serena arrived at the Fords' family estate. After she parked her car, she walked into the estate.

Along the way, the family servants only spared passing glances before continuing with their work, which wasn't surprising to Serena in the slightest.

In the five years that she had been married to Silas, Freya had never treated her with a single ounce of respect, and that was reflected in the servants as well.

If it weren't for Silas, Serena wouldn't have even stepped onto the estate in the first place.

"Mom!"

A bright voice echoed in the halls. The moment Serena stepped into the living room, a familiar small figure pounced towards her.

"Mom, you're finally here to get me!"

Five-year-old Shawn clung to Serena like a little koala, sounding distressed, "Granny tricked me! She said you don't want me anymore!"

Serena froze and looked at Freya.

Freya, dressed in luxurious attire, was seated like a queen. Dawn sat right beside her, the very picture of elegance, grace, and perfection.

Serena was quite surprised to see Dawn at the estate, but then she realized that it was only natural. Silas had already proposed to Dawn. A post of them became viral, so they were about to go public soon.

On top of that, Dawn showing up today probably meant that she had Freya's approval, too.

"Mom, why aren't you saying anything?" Shawn looked up at Serena. "Is what Granny said true? Are you really getting a divorce with Dad? Don't you want me anymore?"

Serena looked down and met Shawn's anxious gaze. Her heart ached.

For so long, she had treated Shawn like her own son, taking care of him meticulously. Their relationship, spanning five years, wasn't fake in the slightest.

The thought of being separated from him after the divorce weighed heavily on her heart.

Freya waved at him. "Come here, Shawn."

"I don't wanna!" Shawn refused, holding Serena tightly. "I want to go home with Mom!"

Freya's expression darkened, and her tone grew stern. "How many times do I need to tell you that she's not your mother! This is your real mother, the famous actress Dawn Zeller!"

Serena froze.

Shawn's biological mother…was Dawn?

But hadn't Silas said that Shawn's parents had passed away ages ago?

Was all of that just a lie…?
