Chapter 2

Author: Jasmine Flower
Winona was on the phone. She lowered her voice, but could not hide her arrogance. "So what if I claimed the credit for saving him? She's lost her memory and doesn't remember what happened back then. So what if my leukemia is fake? Cameron believes it."

I stopped.

"It's a pity that the fire didn't kill her. That old geezer relented after all. If we had locked her in there from the start, she wouldn't have been able to get out."

I pushed the door open.

Winona turned around and saw me. Her phone almost dropped to the ground.

"Are you not afraid that I'll tell Cameron?" The moment I opened the door, Winona visibly froze.

"You heard everything? That's fine." She quickly regained her composure and smiled smugly. "How are you going to tell Cameron? You don't remember anything. Do you remember the details? What clothes was he wearing that day? Which month and day was it? Where did the accident happen?"

I clenched my hands silently.

"I'm not afraid of you knowing more either! Do you know how I became a designer?" Winona slowly approached me, her voice soft yet vicious.

"Cameron gave me those design drafts. Those works you're so proud of actually bear my name."

These betrayals broke my heart, making it hard to breathe. I felt a faint throbbing in my belly, my baby reminding me not to be upset.

"The baby you're carrying..." Winona's gaze fell on my swollen belly, her tone smug. "You think it's the fruit of your love? It's just to donate bone marrow to me..."

I interrupted sharply, "Enough! You don't need to deliberately provoke me. You're just saying all these things to make me leave."

I stared at her with a sneer. "I can leave. Give me ten million dollars and the villa my mother left behind. Have Cameron sign this divorce agreement and I'll leave after that."

Winona froze, and wild joy immediately filled her face, which she quickly suppressed. "What are you playing at?"

I crossed my arms and looked at her. "Ten million dollars in the bank, the villa transferred to my name, and I'll disappear immediately."

"Are you serious?" Winona was in disbelief.

I took out the divorce agreement I had prepared beforehand from my bag.

Winona took it and excitedly flipped through it.

"The money first," I added.

A few minutes later, my phone rang. It was a bank transfer notification: ten million dollars.

The next second, hurried footsteps echoed from the end of the corridor.

Before I could react, Winona slammed into the table. "Hazel, ah..."

Cameron rushed in and pulled her into his arms. "I kept calling you, but no one answered. I thought something had happened. I rushed over, and the first thing you did when you woke up was bully Winona! She didn't cause the fire on purpose! Why are you taking it out on her?"

Cameron's accusations sent chills down my spine.

I suddenly realized that a year ago, Cameron was the one who said, "Don't be afraid. I'll always love you. I'll deal with that bully, Winona!"

Now, he had complete trust in her.

"I didn't push her. She framed me on purpose!" I trembled with anger.

I had told Cameron that Winona often framed me when we were little, and my father would punish me. Cameron had held me tenderly and said he would trust me unconditionally from then on.

However, things had unexpectedly turned out like this.

"Yes, I accidentally fell. It's not Hazel..." Winona seemed to be defending me, but her red, tear-filled eyes told me she was just putting on an innocent act; anyone would believe her, but not me!

"She has leukemia; one wound could kill her!" Cameron was furious as he pointed to the wound on her hand. "You should really reflect on yourself!"

Then he carried her to the emergency room.

I wiped away my tears and went home, thinking, 'Cameron, will you regret your attitude toward me today when you find out Winona wasn't your savior?'

Three months later, my divorce agreement officially came into effect.Cameron did not make any fuss over the agreement. His hands shook as he signed, but he still did it. He asked the lawyer to pass me a message. "If one day you change your mind, I'll still be here."However, I did not change my mind.On the day the divorce procedures were completed, Andre took me to the beach. He opened a bottle of sparkling water, poured two glasses, and handed me one. He said, "To celebrate your return to being single."I took the glass and clinked it with his. "Andre, you haven't answered my previous question.""What question?""What have you made up your mind about?"He paused for a moment, put down his glass, and turned around to face me.The sea wind blew his hair a bit messy, but his eyes were bright."Hazel, I've made up my mind about you. Not because of sympathy, the baby, or any other reason. It's because I saw you walking out of that marriage alone, pregnant alone, giving birth alo

After returning to Northvalley, Cameron did not stir up trouble or turn to violence to sort things out. Instead, he calmly uncovered all of Winona's deceptions one by one.The first person he dealt with was Dr. Chance.Cameron's men discreetly took Dr. Chance out overnight. The next morning, Dr. Chance willingly surrendered to the police, admitting to forging Winona's leukemia report.Meanwhile, Cameron gathered evidence linking Winona to the arson incident. The person hired by Winona to start the "accidental fire" at the party was a temporary worker at the hotel. After being found, this person confessed to the crime.Next was the design draft problem. Cameron gathered all my original drafts, timestamps, and creative records from over the years into a booklet. He submitted it to the design association and top media outlets.Within a week, Winona went from being the youngest genius designer to being seen as a hated plagiarist, fraud, and suspect in the arson case all over the inter

Ten months had passed when Cameron finally found me.I was carrying my bady in a supermarket when I turned around to see that tall figure at the doorway. All I thought was that he had come later than I expected. He had lost a lot of weight. His usual neatly fitted suit had been replaced by casual clothes. There was a thin layer of stubble on his chin, and he had severe dark circles under his eyes."Hazel." He walked over, his voice hoarse and almost inaudible.I instinctively stepped back, holding the baby tighter. That action made him stop.He explained, "I know everything now. All of it was Winona's conspiracy. You're the one... who saved me back then."I looked at him and stayed silent."Sorry." He lowered his head. "Hazel, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have trusted her. I shouldn't have treated you like that. I shouldn't have allowed you to leave alone."The baby in my arms moved. I lowered my head and patted his back. When he stopped crying, I looked back at Cameron. I asked, "A

During the two months I was away, Cameron's world gradually crumbled. After Winona moved into the VIP ward he arranged, she increasingly made demands. She wanted limited edition bags, custom-made jewelry, and for Cameron to have meals with her every day.At first, Cameron fulfilled all of them because he regarded Winona as the one who saved him, and she had leukemia. Gradually, he began to sense that something was off.The real turning point came from an accident.During a routine check-up, Cameron's subordinates discovered a spare phone hidden by Winona. There was a conversation inside that made him shiver all over. The recipient's ID was "Dr. Chance".Winona: [Are the blood test results ready? Don't give away any clues.]Dr. Chance: [They're ready. All the indicators match the clinical manifestations of leukemia.]Dr. Chance: [If Mr. Payne wants to access the original data, I have a backup here. He won't find out.]Winona: [That's good. We'll postpone it for another two mont

Andre was like the weather in the south — gentle, considerate and never aggressive. He respected my boundaries, and he always showed up just in time whenever I needed help.I bought too many things to carry, so he helped me carry them upstairs as he was "passing by".I felt unwell in the middle of the night, and he appeared downstairs 20 minutes later with some hot milk. The nanny I hired, Annie Langford, once said to me with a chuckle, "Is Mr. Leclerc interested in you?" I shook my head. "Nonsense. He's just a kind man."I was not oblivious; I was just aware of my situation: A woman carrying another man's child, a marriage not yet fully over, and a heart broken and afraid to be given away again. Two weeks later, my baby finally arrived. My water had broken and I woke up in pain. I struggled to reach for my phone on the bedside table, but my hands were shaking so badly I could not even unlock the screen. The only person I could think of was Andre. The phone beeped twice before

  • What A Mess   Chapter 4

After leaving that city, I traveled to a coastal town in the south. Here, there was no influence of the Payne family or any spies from the Sweeney family. I rented a small apartment by the sea and fell asleep listening to the sound of the waves every day. My baby was eight months along. I hired an excellent local nanny and arranged everything in advance.I was no longer the Sweeney family's heiress, nor was I Cameron's wife. I was just Hazel Sweeney, a woman about to become a mother. In the first month after leaving, Cameron called 37 times and sent over 20 text messages. From the initial "Where have you been?" to later "Hazel, don't make a fuss." Finally...Cameron: [You're alone out there and pregnant. What if something happens? Come back. We'll talk it out.]I did not reply to any of the messages, and then I changed my phone number. As for Winona, I heard she was admitted to the VIP ward arranged by Cameron and was enjoying the best medical resources. The leukemia was fake, b
